COMMITMENT UPDATE (4/19/14)

"I visited Auburn the first time and realized I didn't bring my mom with me," Sharp told AuburnSports.com. 'So I visited again with my mom and we loved it and I wanted to commit, but I didn't want to do it without my family. I told Coach Malzahn I want to commit with my whole family. I want my family to be committed to the Auburn family.

"We walked into his office, shook his hand, took pictures, and I told him I wanted to be an Auburn Tiger."

...

"What I like about (Auburn) is it's very family-oriented. And for me, everything is right there at Auburn. The dorms, the academic center, weight room, practice fields, cafeteria... they are all within walking distance."

...

"I met with Coach (Tim) Horton, my recruiting coordinator and talked to Coach(Gus) Malzahn about my family and everything," he said when asked about last weekend's visit. "I can commit whenever I want. When I first got the Auburn offer, (the Auburn coaches) were excited. But (Malzahn) said, 'I want you to take your time and go to the other schools, but just keep Auburn in your thoughts.'"

was offered today by Auburn. Grew up an AU fan. He said the offer was a dream come true. More per free Rivals article. Link Highlights

Sprayberry (Ga.) offensive lineman Bailey Sharp visited Auburn on Tuesday and landed an offer before leaving campus.

"This was my second time visiting and seeing the facilities," Sharp told AuburnSports.com. "I saw the weight room, the indoor facilities, it was cool. I was escorted by Coach (J.B.) Grimes and Coach (Tim) Horton.

"I have probably 17 offers now, but not any leader. I do have some favorites like Auburn, Clemson, Duke, Mississippi State, South Carolina. It was very cool to hear that I have that offer. I grew up an Auburn fan and it was cool to land that offer. It was awesome."

Sharp holds offers from Clemson, California, Duke, Michigan State, South Carolina and more.

Sharp didn't think about committing though, he wants to be patient.

"I want to be really patient with the process," Sharp said. "I want to pick the right school for in both football and academics."

The 6-foot-5, 285-pound Sharp admittedly grew up rooting for Auburn.

Sharp grew up in Alabama before moving to Marietta, Ga., and remembers others in his family rooting for Alabama. His desire to root for Auburn stemmed from his desire to be different than many of his family members.

"The other half of my family, there's Alabama fans, and anytime Alabama wins, they like to brag about it," Sharp said. "I wanted to see Alabama lose and the other team I saw beat them was Auburn. Just how my family gloated about them, it's like a family rivalry."

Auburn is recruiting Sharp as an offensive tackle. Sharp plans to return to Auburn for a summer camp.

Sweet thanks E. It seems like we are in line to make some early recruiting noise for 2015

I was gonna say, that is a strong- and national- offer list for a 3*. I'm guessing he's a pretty bright kid.

Sounds like Sharp may be close to committing.

From the article: "I can commit whenever I want. When I first got the Auburn offer, (the Auburn coaches) were excited. But (Malzahn) said, 'I want you to take your time and go to the other schools, but just keep Auburn in your thoughts.'" --Love the way CGM handled this! Sends the message "I care about you. I want you to be comfortable about your decision and your future. And I know I don't have to sell Auburn to you, Auburn sells itself."

MHO: If schools like Notre Dame, Clemson, Georgia, Louisville, and South Carolina are after him, I'll trust their collective opinions over some desk jockey at Scout or Rivals. Hope we get him, and sounds like he been ours to lose for many years.
