Big time hire. He was being talked about as a potential hire when Malzahn was first hired.

Bobby Bentley of Duncan (S.C.) James F. Byrnes will be named to the Tigers’ coaching staff this afternoon. Bentley confirmed the news to 247Sports earlier Monday. There is a team meeting at Byrnes scheduled for 3:10 p.m. eastern

This is a great opportunity for Coach Bentley and Auburn. I've known Coach Bentley for several years and he brings a lot of experience to the table from the high school ranks. Byrnes is successful because of Coach Bentley.

There has not been one coaching position hire that was handled poorly on the football side of things. Another very strong addition. Well respected program in Florida where we recruit probably 3rd most.

This guy is just another one in the long of good coaches from Byrnes, that school has been good for a while, in fact that entire area has produced a lot of good players over the years. This guy will be successful somewhere and its a good thing we snagged him up when we did.

Wrong state. We haven't recruited heavily in SC, but maybe this will help change that.

Best of all, I believe Gus called him an innovator on offense. That is quite a compliment coming from Gus Sort of like being called a great Catholic by the Pope!

Impressive resume.

Impressive HS resume. 10-13 as FCS HC not so much. Anybody know what he was doing from 2009-2012?

It was Presbyterian College, it shouldn't even count on his resume.

Coached Presbyterian College....a small school that was trying to go big time....school did not have athletes or facilities or $$ for same. He did a great job to win 10 games...but saw the hand writing on the wall and went back to Duncan SC....AD and then back to coaching. This is a great move for him ....and for AU.

Thanks, should have read the fine print. Still excited about the hire, I guess, dont know too much about him. Anything CGM touches turns to gold, so we are good.

Sweet. So Gus' original plan was to have Rhett as only OC and Byrnes as a separate QB position coach? Interesting.

A pipeline to S.C. would be nice, IMO it's like Arky: not a ton of blue chip high schoolers but when they have one he's a doozy.

Byrnes is a national high school power. Under Bentley they have had one of the countries best programs. They were the 1st HS is SC to win 4 straight state championships. This guy can coach. Interesting that his son already has an AU offer and he is not eligible until 2017. He has to be very talented.

Bentley will chiefly work with the Tigers' quarterbacks, according to an official statement released by District Five schools in Spartanburg County.

...

"I will be joining the football staff at Auburn University as an offensive analyst working with the quarterbacks," Bentley said in the statement. "It will be an honor to work with the SEC Champions and work alongside Coach Gus Malzahn."

...

"Coach Malzahn is a godly leader, and the opportunity was too good to turn down," Bentley said. "It is my hope that one young person will be motivated by this story and realize you can achieve your goals with hard work, faith in God and believing in your dreams."
