Cheating Pays

Big XII commissioner Bob Bowlsby ripped the NCAA at media days, specifically their enforcement efforts, saying that if you're inclined to cheat, now is a good time to do it. Those of is who know even a little about Bama and the REC have known this for a while. It's nice to see others recognizing it. Not that anything will change....

Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby addressed the media in Dallas on Monday to begin the league's Media Days event, and he took the opportunity to put the NCAA on blast.

Bowlsby took the current model for enforcement to task, saying "cheating pays" in college sports.

“[NCAA] enforcement is broken,” Bowlsby said. “The infractions committee hasn't had a hearing in almost a year, and I think it's not an understatement to say cheating pays presently.”

Bowlsby continued on the enforcement staff: “They're in the battle with a BB gun in their hand. They're fighting howitzers. We have to find a way to make progress on it. It undermines the confidence of the system.”

With each passing day, it looks like support for paying college athletes is growing. If the NCAA doesn't grow some teeth, that day maybe be sooner than later. (Not sure they can grow some teeth but they need to......)

Certainly CHEATING PAYS. The west Vance rednecks are the undeniable proof. Paying players is the future? At west Vance it is the past and present.......

Watch out BigXII y'all 'bout to have a team get a rectal exam for one of your teams - sanctions are on the way BEWARE!

The NCAA is a shell of it's former self. They won't push their agenda in fear of a program "lawyering up" and hammering them hard. They completely screwed up the Miami investigation and were shamed for it - they are an impotent organization now and a truckload of Viagra wouldn't help at this point.

By turning a blind eye to the nickster and the REC.... Emmert and the NCAA has written it's own epitaph. T-Town Menswear alone could've restored some credibility had the NCAA done something about it.

The NCAA is teetering in the 8th of a 12 round bout, but still has a small reserve of striking power. I suspect we will see more love taps on the wrist for sanctioning, similar to what Oregon received.

The NCAA has always given their sacred cows free reign to cheat all they want. bama, Notre Dame, Texas to name those that first come to mind.

Why does the SEC have a reputation for their teams being on probation? Because bama needs that in order to remain on top in the SEC. that's what brought about the demise of the Southwest Conference; the NCAA keeping Texas' opponents crippled that way for the sake of Texas.

It began in the days when ABC had a monopoly on televising college football. The NCAA believed those sacred cows were what brought in the money and kissed their behinds in order to keep them eligible for bowls and TV as well as to keep their opponents crippled. There were only 1 or 2 games televised every weekend and the NCAA thought everyone wanted to watch those few teams, and those few teams only. In reality, as most ppeople knew, people want to watch THEIR own teams more than some spoiled brats from across the country. Thus when the ABC monopoly was busted up and WTBS and ESPN began showing teams people really did want to watch the NCAA eresponded by allowing their favorites even freer reign to cheat at will.

The NCAA's enforcment wing has never been anything but their vehicle to prop up the sacred cows, the entitled ones.

My God...I was almost in tears reading the past couple of posts....and of course they all but caused me to wonder whether I had been imagining things when I recalled that Bama spent more than 15 consecutive years on probation not that long ago. That must have been an illusion...

It wasn't an illusion, but it was AFTER Bear Bryant and BEFORE Mark Emmert became head of the NCAA and Nick Saban became head of the Tahd football program. The textbook issue happened during the Shula years, but the punishment came down when Saban first got there and he had to vacate wins (which I don't think he or the Tahd have actually done) because of it.

And how many of those seasons were they banned from TV?

While it was a significant chunk of time it wasn't 15 CONSECUTIVE years.

I'm new to this conversation. Can someone please explain to me what "REC" is?

Nacho,REC stands for Red Elephant Club. They consist of bama boosters, alumni and others.Their main purpose is to enhance bama's football program by providing cars, suits, jobs, house rentals etc. while doing anything and everything to destroy our program. They are very powerful in the state of Alabama as they have great influence over local media and have a lot of money at their disposal but in spite of them AU seems to survive. They remind me of Joseph Goebbels and the Nazi propaganda machine of WW2. The results are not as brutal as the Nazis were but it is the same modus operendi. Do whatever it takes and keep people in the dark as to what is really going on while promoting your own agenda. Google them. There are several sites devoted to them. Hope this helps.

Slammer, you make them sound like the Illuminati. Nacho, there are conspiracy theorists among us who think the REC controls the college football world, but it is just the Alabama Booster Club. There is no doubt some degree of the stuff Slammer describes going on, but I don't buy the whole conspiracy angle.

Doubt the level of cheating by the rec at your own peril...

The REC has been known to wreck people's lives when crossed, or even threatened. I am positive they were the driving force behind the Cam Newton lynch mob, and it was almost a successful take down.

I would not discount them, nor would I consider them to be mostly benign. They like their power and all that money way too much to let it all get away from them. It will be interesting to see how things unfold in the next few years.

It certainly will. One thing I look for as a possibility, is Congress getting involved like they did with baseball and Steroids. CFB will have to clean up it's act or lose antitrust and tax exempt status.

The nazi comparison is just a wee bit over the top. They may have thrown someone up a flight of stairs :) but there is no proof of them trying to exterminate all AU fans.......yet.
