In 2012 he was cuffed and detained by police for brandishing a BB gun on campus (which is specifically NOT allowed at FSU), then 5 hours later caused thousands of $$ damage in a BB gun battle at his apartment complex.

Report: FSU's Jameis Winston stopped by police at gunpoint in 2012

Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston was stopped at gunpoint by police and handcuffed in 2012 after carrying a BB gun around campus that he said he was using to shoot at squirrels.

According to a report, Winston and teammate Chris Casher were briefly detained by authorities on Nov. 25, 2012 after someone reported to police that two men were carrying a "long barrelled handgun" on Florida State's campus.

From the USA Today report:

Shortly after 5 p.m. that day,
FSU
police were dispatched to a bike trail on campus where they found Winston, then a redshirt freshmen, and Casher.

"I believe the suspects may have had a firearm so for my safety and the safety of the other individuals in the area, I drew my firearm from its holster and pointed it at the suspects with my finger outside the trigger guard," wrote Officer Anthony Gioannetti in the police report.

The officer "stated several times in a loud voice" for the men to get on the ground. They dropped a pistol, which the officer did not initially see, before lying on the ground. Officer Garrett Williams handcuffed Winston and Casher, and Gioannetti then holstered his firearm.

Police took the BB gun and pellets, and Winston and Casher were released and not charged.

WINSTON'S FSU TIMELINE

Under Florida State University's student code of conduct. possession of firearms -- including BB guns -- on campus is prohibited.

About five hours later, Winston and others engaged in BB gun "battle" that caused $4,200 in damage at their apartment complex.

From the story:

That incident came to light in Nov. 2013 as Winston, the eventual Heisman Trophy winner, was being investigated by the state attorney's office related to the alleged rape of a female FSU student on Dec. 7, 2012.

After initially telling TPD that he wanted to evict Winston, Casher and two other players involved for breaking 13 windows, apartment manager Dave Sudekum said he did not want to pursue charges.

Monk Bonasorte, senior associate athletics director, arranged for players to split the cost of the damages.

In April, Winston was cited for shoplifting crab legs from a local grocery story, an incident head coach Jimbo Fisher said was an honest mistake.

So he get stopped for carrying a BB gun and the police took it away?

And he claims he was shooting at squirrels?

Then he gets another BB gun and uses it to shoot out windows at the apartment complex???

This is old news. Why are they bringing it back up?

I was thinking the same thing. I remember hearing about this when it happened.

Click-bait maybe?

I think the fact he got stopped by the police for having a BB gun on campus is new. Then he pulled the brilliant move of shooting out windows the same day, which was known

The squirrel hunting excuse is new too, maybe they weren't feeding the players enough.... PETA will not like him. May not have been squirrel season either in Florida.......

Meh, Mason used to catch squirrels with his hands. Far more impressive than BB guns.

That wasn't Mason, that was McCalebb. Just to set the record straight.

Mason did catch a squirrel. Or at least had his picture taken while holding one.

Clearly someone has a lot of time to be digging through this stuff.

Clearly someone has a lot of time on their hands to be reading and responding to it. Just sayin.
