GreenEyedGirl 6
Because of health reasons, Archie Manning is stepping down from the College Football Playoff Committee that will determine the four finalists for the 2014 national championship. http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/11732136/archie-manning-steps-college-football-playoff-committee
boisnumber1 2,818
And no alternates, so it's an even numbered committee now. They really thought this out, didn't they? Archie saw the disaster on the horizon and said I have too much integrity for what's coming.

Nobody would ever believe what he said....makes it more fun to dream up all kinds of conspiracy theories and wild explanations. Meanwhile, I doubt there is much of a reason that 12 won't do the job as well as 13. When the results are made known....we will NEVER know how any particular member voted and likely every decision will be made by consensus. These are actually responsible adults on this committee....not a bunch of lunatic, koolaid drinking football fanatics. I bet they can have a calm and sane discussion about the ratings without anyone feeling the need to make a phone call to Pawl or somebody to express their disagreement with the committee's rankings. Well....isn't Pat Haden on the committee? He's not exactly in the mature adult category. I'm troubled that Archie Manning is unable to continue. He is someone that I do respect. cptau 169
Just bring back the BCS rankings. If people aren't happy with the top 4 picks, increase the playoff to 8 teams. That's where it's headed anyway. they want the money from 7 games played over 3 weekends..............

auburn4ever 1,266
I heard on The SEC Network that Finebaum is taking Manning's place. We're screwed of getting enough votes to play for the national championship.

AUbritt 611
Archie missed Peyton getting the all time TD passing record for the same reason, which suggests his reason for bowing out of the Committee is legit. I do think it could hurt SEC teams; but we still have the Arky AD (ahem).

Manning underwent knee replacement surgery earlier this year and is now experiencing discomfort while walking. He will have surgery next month and will be unable to travel to meetings. Thirty years after video conferencing became widely used, THIS is his reason? Meetings involving way, WAY more important issues like UN International safety counsel meetings go forward although important attendees can't be present because it's not 1980 anymore. Or what, they don't have enough money to fly close to Archie either? They have calls every week but don't MEET as often. Lame, lame, lame. (The excuse, not the post surgery). AU64 10,122
Everyone over age of 65 who has had a knee or hip replaced is free to question the validity of AM's reason....the rest of you ought to knock it off until you have some experience in that area. weagl1 1,781
Sorry to hear Archie is having trouble and I know the group is going to miss him. Having said that: I didn't trust the BCS and especially the computer component, but I trust the committee even less. It is going to chap my butt really bad if they pass over a second SEC team to put a team in the playoff with a pitiful strength of schedule. I can see it coming. Actually hate to say this, cause I really dislike the guy.. but if anyone is lobbying for multiple SEC teams in the playoffs it is Finebaum. I saw him rip into Kannell today saying there would be two and that guys like Kannell are just trying to make up reasons to discredit the SEC. Lets be honest, the more SEC teams in the playoffs the better it is for Finebaum business wise.

Hey, my mother has had knee and hip replacement - she is the same age as Archie and had a remarkable rehab. Of course she didn't spend 15+ years of her life playing football with 10+ years in the NFL getting the crap knocked out of her multiple times every week during football season. Mom's no Pro Bowler, but she is still a very active old chick. :-\
AuburnNTexas 7,128
If Archie said it was health reason I have no reason to doubt him. With Ole Miss being near the top you know he wanted to be there to be sure that nobody messed with Ole Miss. What is sad is that they don't replace him with some unbiased SEC person like Bo Jackson. :-\

A relevant question if CFP Administration, LLC. - The Committee's budget source (10 athletic conferences and their member universities) can't afford to provide Molly with video conference call access for discussions for 7 (seven) weekly polls. Love the logic that Archie's contemporaries suffering like him are qualified to opine but info about his similarly situated contemporaries that could get on a plane and fly is off limits. Hey....did you miss the point here ? ...it's AMs' decision....he does not feel that he can do the job properly and he did the honorable thing to withdraw. So what's all the talk blaming the committee, talking about their budget, etc.....that stuff is totally irrelevant. AM is top class guy and if he has done what he thinks is best for the process. That should be the end of the story.
