RunInRed 16,239
Auburn man ... Apple CEO Tim Cook told Fortune magazine in a recent interview that after paying for the college education of his 10-year-old nephew, he plans to give his entire fortune away. Cook, a native of Robertsdale, a small town in south Alabama, is said to be worth close to $1 billion. He holds about $120 million in Apple stock and another $665 million in restricted stock if it were fully vested, the magazine reported. Cook told the magazine: "You want to be the pebble in the pond that creates the ripple for change," referring to a number of causes, along the lines of human rights and immigration reform, in which he has already been involved. http://fortune.com/2...03/26/tim-cook/

AURex 1,962
I certainly understand his decision. Unless he adopts (unlikely), he will not have children to leave the money to. Maybe by the time he reaches his final years, the political/social environment in Alabama will have improved to the point that he'd leave a nice chunk to Auburn. An endowed chair and some scholarships at least. But an technology-centered research institute would be an amazing boon to the university.
