For what's it worth, I thought it interesting to get a feeling for how Obama's presidency will be seen by professional historians.

Of course, it's far too early to get an "accurate" reading - if such a thing as an "accurate" historical account is possible - but it's still interesting to see speculations coming from professional historians.

Note:

To all you who suffer from severe ODS: Just skip it. It would be a waste of your time. It's probably too much for you to read at any rate.

We've long known the country's demographics are trending in favor of the Democratic party ... this nails the point ...

Even though Obama’s recent executive action on immigration has received a great deal of attention, it may have a greater long-term impact than the current political fracas. According to one poll, almost 90 percent of registered Latino voters support the measure. The number of Hispanics in the United States is projected to double by 2060, which means that one-third of the nation’s population will be Hispanic. Obama’s executive action may not only help stabilize the country’s Latino population but also cement much of its loyalty to the Democratic Party.

I'm speaking more in terms of Once great civilizations like Greece and Rome. We'll still exist but as a minor player on the world stage. With the ever growing welfare state we cannot sustain, it's going to be bad.

Vote buying regardless of how you spin it, FWIW. No different than the GOP and their business cronies. Just a different way to skin a cat.

That's true regardless. There's no reason to think we would be the first country to last forever.

(And btw, we are not the ultimate source of 'civilization'.)

No we won't be the first but it doesn't have to be that way. If America fails where do the freedom loving people go? We already see the beginninings of how the world will look as we stop defending against tyranny both here and abroad. We are slowly but surely losing our way, moving away from what made this country great. An ever expanding government with more and more dependency is a sure recipe for failure.

American exceptionalism is about America being the exception to the rule not us being better people. Most people of the world did and do live under some semblance of being ruled over by someone or some set of someones rather than true individual freedom. That's what set us apart. Now it's group rights instead of individual freedom.

We've allowed our political parties to become indistinguishable as they both seek to control the unruly masses. One is worse than the other but they both do it. Media no longer is the watchful eyes on government ready to hold them accountable but rather has become a revolving door through which people pass back and forth between the two.

People are giving up their freedom for security in one form or another, whether it be a government check or things like NSA. I still have faith in the American people that there are enough who will say enough is enough. Time is running short though. If I am wrong then it is a sad end to a once great nation.

Bolded is the problem in your thinking. It is the root of the "lesser of two evils" argument. Either "side" says that about the other side. You have overlooked that the first sentence in that paragraph was indeed correct, and then proceeded to contradict it. They cannot be indistinguishable if one is worse than the other. As long as the Republicans know that they have you, simply because you do not like liberalism, progressivism, Democrats, or even the suffix "ism", they know that they do not have to actually do anything meaningful to keep you. That frees their time up for more valuable endeavors like appeasing interest groups. I'm not singling you out, the same holds true for people on the other side, it's just different names.

Modern American politics can be summarized accurately in one sentence: Money chasing power, power chasing money, and the lust for both. It is foolish to think that a real solution to the mess that is America today lies within the power structure that brought us here.

The republican party is bad but not without hope. Actually we have made some nice gains in recent years as more conservatives have been elected to office. Now we're not there yet but progress is being made. The old group of establishment Republicans won't just go away quietly. They want to hang on to their power. It's a battle for the heart and soul of the republican party and it's a battle that can be won and I actually think we're making fairly good progress. It is a battle that must be fought because there simply is no alternative. The Democrat party is beyond hope.

Somehow that just doesn't fit with your call for America to exercise imperial power.
