On the injury front ...

During the 20 minutes of practice open to the media, wide receiver Stanton Truitt, who had shoulder surgery last year, and freshman nickel back Tim Irvin, who broke his hand, were wearing orange non-contact jerseys.

Both players are practicing; the two just appear to be off-limits when it came to full pads.

In addition, cornerback Jonathan Jones, who's been battling a foot injury suffered during the offseason, wasn't in full pads at practice, warming up instead in helmet and shorts. Defensive coordinator Will Muschamp has already said the injury isn't serious; the Tigers are holding Jones out to make sure the injury heals properly.

On the other hand, guard Alex Kozan, who the Tigers planned to evaluate after spring break to see if he could return to full contact, was in full pads, working with the first team at left guard and appeared to be a full go. Defensive end Gimel President, in addition, is back in full pads.

The offensive linemen remains Shon Coleman, Alex Kozan, Austin Golson, Braden Smith and Avery Young

Return squads remained the same:

- Kickoff returns included Stanton Truitt and Johnathan Ford

- Punt returns were Jason Smith, Marcus Davis, Gray King and Stephen Roberts

Defensive back T.J. Davis did not appear to be at practice. Whether that is because of injury or class obligations or another reason is another question that will be put to Malzahn after practice.

I'd say that's pretty good news all around. Because of their positions, I don't think its so terrible for Irvin and Truitt to miss contact since they can still gets reps this way. And I love to hear that so far there doesn't seem to be a set back with Kozan--that's huge.

So Auburn returned to practice today. Media was permitted to observe about 20 minutes. Nothing earth-shattering to report, unfortunately

No news is the best news imo

I think the biggest surprise was Alex Kozan returning to full practice after they said they would evaluate him after spring practice. Hope he stays healthy!

My thoughts as well. Very good to see him back to full health. I don't think the staff would risk re-injury if they weren't sure he was fully recovered. Looking forward to seeing him open holes for RBs and protect his QB.

Malzahn's post-practice presser ...

Malzahn: It was sluggish today. Could tell guys had been off for a week.

...

Malzahn: Trying to slowly acclimate Alex Kozan to full contact. He's dressed out most practices.

...

Malzahn said Jason Smith came to coaches and said he wanted to transition to WR.

...

Malzahn: Smith "is extremely talented. He wants to be good and he's coachable."

...

Malzahn: Every day you see Jovon Robinson get more comfortable in the offense. He's a very football-savvy guy.

@AUBlog

Auburn's Gus Malzahn said of Jason Smith: "We're trying to transition him to the wide receiver spot." But will have QB package for him

...

Gus Malzahn said defensive back T.J. Davis tore his ACL and has had surgery.

@AUGoldMine

Malzahn: Saturday will be the first scrimmage of spring

...

Malzahn reiterates his stance against satellite camps in light of Harbaugh coming to Prattville

Raashed Kennion:

Raashed Kennion is here now. Thought he was going to redshirt last season, but gained experience from playing time last year.

...

Kennion is working at the Buck in Muschamp's defense. Him, Carl Lawson and Justin Thornton all working at that position.

...

Kennion: It's a lot more intense with Muschamp. Called him one of the best coaches he's ever had.

...

Kennion: Duke Williams is the most aggressive player on offense. Has been the most impressive in his eyes.
