Blitz breakdown from A-Day

Last season at the FBS level, a quarterback was sacked every 15.05 pass attempts. Auburn ranked No. 100 in sack ratio, with 1 every 20.05 attempts. Developing a better pass-rush will certainly be a priority for Coach Will Muschamp. With very little pass-rush off the edge, the 2014 Auburn defense became reliant upon blitzes to apply pressure on the opposing quarterback. The return of Carl Lawson and the addition of Byron Cowart should provide the much needed speed off the edge but Auburn needs to develop consistency from their entire defensive front.

The play...

On this play the Auburn defense elects to bring a blitz with the offense at their 40, facing a 3rd & 5 to convert. Before the snap, Tre Williams and JaViere Mitchell edge up to the front. At the snap, Mitchell will blitz up the middle as Williams blitzes off the edge. At this same moment, Andrew Williams runs an inside stunt as Maurice Swain twists outside.

Cameron Toney works his way past Avery Young (RT) to collapse the pocket. Tre Williams comes over top to force Jeremy Johnson to scramble to his right. Toney makes penetration with Williams right behind him on the edge. The secondary clamps down on the 4-WR set allowing the pass-rush to register a sack on the play. Once again, Cameron Toney makes another big play for the defense, something Auburn needs to carry over to the regular season.

Yes, it would be great if the defensive line could generate a threat of a pass rush.

I didn't read much about his progress this Spring, but I was just wondering how much of a factor Andrew Williams will be this year.
