Stupid equivalency. The symbol of a society which efforts to right the wrongs of the past should not be compared to the symbol of a society that is too arrogant and too ignorant to do anything but continue to reaffirm such a fundamental and grievous mistake.

I hope the flag doesn't have its money in a Greek bank, because paying them might be a problem.

On a serious note, looks like some people don't like the "One Flag" theory. Is this a Nation of Islam event? Who is this group "Disarm NYPD"?

I agree with this sentiment. I think it is time to burn the flag.

It no longer represents a nation of laws; where people can practice their religion without interference; where gov't is small to protect the rights of; and unleash the industriousness of; the people. Where a compact; sworn to by each branch as they are sworn in; protects us. It now represents the type of corruption that in my youth you only associated with Latin American dictators...gov't by the fiat of a few...religion is no longer tolerated; it is now outright demonized; and once deviant behaviors have now been grafted into the constitution because; well because a group of 9 un-elected, handpicked no-it-alls decided it.. Gov't is what you can get away with... And gov't has a solution to all your problems because; well I guess American socialists are just smarter than all the other socialists in history who have tried this and failed.

I really don't have a lot in common with the nation now represented by this flag.

Very sad that some of you fail to recognize the difference between a flag that symbolizes the causes of freedom and democracy, with a flag that symbolizes the cause of outright oppression. Sadder still, you cannot recognize or appreciate that, the flag of those who stand for freedom and democracy defeated the flag of those who stood for oppression. Really, really, really, really stupid.

If you are so Republican or, so southern, that you can no longer be an American, I wish you well in your future home. I will be happy to pay for your flight if, you agree not to come back.

Sounds like something a Republican would say regarding issues of the liberal left (but with a different set of circumstances). Southerners aren't the ones ready to burn the stars and stripe this time, though. It's people who "deserve" to be given something more than others already have. Freedom.

Ichy, I'll accept a wire or certified check only. I fly first class; preferably on Emirates or Singair. There's the matter of my family and household goods too...probably won't take more than $250k to get us set up where I have in mind. To quote someone that used to be the liberal darling president:

"Whenever any form of government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or abolish it, and to institute new government, laying its foundation on such principles, and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their safety and happiness." --Thomas Jefferson (that wild eyed right winger, huh)...he also pointed out the need of the populace to take to arms to remind it's leaders who's in charge.

We've had a pretty good run; ~240 years is not bad. Nothing says we have to keep this union. In fact, if you look at the rest of the world; it's pretty unnatural. Right now, this is a pretty one way street. Not in love with a union that doesn't abide by it's compact with the people.

Jefferson did say that indeed. He actually borrowed it from Locke. To follow up on your last post, he also believed that one riot or rebellion per decade, similar to Shay's, was healthy for democracy. As it showed the government the people would not accept any intrusions upon their rights.

But then again, maybe we shouldn't listen to everything he said:

He complained about the stench of black people. Yet, he loved banging some mulattoes

He also tried to convince to Congress to pass a law that would forgive the debts that are roughly over 21 years old. His argument was that each generation should start with a clean slate; however, everybody realized he was just trying to get rid of some of his debts. He preached frugality but I wonder if it was because he was bankrupt and misery needed misery.

The Constitution protects expressions of free speech.

The Constitution says nothing about that speech making sense, being noticed by people, or being taken seriously by people. And buffoonery is not illegal.

My equally protected opinion:

Much ado over nothing of consequence. And I think the Constitution and our sweet Land of Liberty still have a lot of good years ahead of them (possibly even better than we've yet seen).
