Alabama self-reports 13 bizarre violations

"Alabama self-reported 13 NCAA violations, from July 1, 2014, through June 30 of this year, according to a report obtained by TideSports.com Friday.

While none of the violations were major, there were numerous bizarre NCAA rules broken by Crimson Tide coaches, student-athletes and recruits."

"According to the report, five of the 13 violations were in football, and one resulted in a football player being declared ineligible for one game after being over-awarded scholarship money due to a computer entry error. The violation was linked to linebacker Trey DePriest, who repaid the money and was reinstated."

"Seven of the violations were related to text messages, emails or calls to recruits during periods when such contact is prohibited, or in excess of the allowed number of contacts in a given time period."

"Another NCAA violation student-athletes committed was when numerous football players were cited for promoting a movie on social media last summer after receiving free passes. While passes are allowed under NCAA rules, promoting the movie was an NCAA violation."

"A football player was cited for giving his complimentary admission spots for a game to a friend, who then sold them."

"Crimson Tide Productions and the men's basketball program violated NCAA rules for using a prospect's image to create a personalized recruiting aid during the player's official visit."

"A rowing coach violated NCAA rules by providing meals for the parents of two recruits before the start of their official visits."

"The 13 violations were a recent low for the Tide. In the 2011-12 reporting period, Alabama had 27 violations. A year later, the number was 31. Last year, Alabama had 20 violations."

They do this every year to throw small bones to the dogs (ncaa) and to try to prove to the world that they are really on top of all situations and are ahead of the curve. Just blowing smoke to keep people looking at one hand while the other is robbing you blind.

They could report buying dodge chargers for student athletes and nothing would come out of it. The NCAA has an axe to grind for everyone not named bama

Facts don't support that. uat was in trouble in 1995, 1999, 2002 and 2009 and received a total of 10 years of probation in that time period and 3 post season suspensions as well.

Every school does this. We will do it also at some point during the year.

Likely so...and JMO but the nature of these "violations" says a lot about the ticky-tacky nature of so many of the NCAA rules. IMO, no school can avoid such minor stuff if they have an active recruitment program.

I expect it has reached the point where many schools feel that it is a good practice to submit this list of minor stuff as an effort to convince the NCAA that they are really being diligent with enforcement and paying attention to even the most minor details of the rules.....kind of like the old adage, "take care of the pennies and the pounds (dollars)dollars will take care of themselves".

I doubt anyone but AU fans take this list of bama "violations" seriously...I mean, read the list....what stupidity.

Sounds smart to me.... any program worth it's salt in recruiting these days should be doing the exact same thing. I hope our superlative compliance staff impliments the same mode of operation.

Still not self-reporting the violations surrounding current players with game worn memorabilia (like the Drake's gloves) sold at T-town Gallery or Derrick Henry's new charger that he named "Fiona"?

No need to report it. The NCAA knows what's going on in turdtown. They just turn the blind eye towards them. But if there is a rumor about any other school, well, just ask AU and ole miss how quick they show up.
