Auburn University’s dining service, Chartwells/Tiger Dining, recently hosted four teams, consisting of three members each, from America’s Wounded Warrior Project. The veterans, both men and women, participated in a master executive chef academy at the Village Dining Center. Under the guidance of Executive Chef Emil Topel, each team was paired with one of the Chartwells/Tiger Dining campus chefs, learning and preparing the creative arts of haute cuisine. On the final day, the teams competed in a gourmet meal preparation competition, comparing skills such as plate presentation, taste and originality. “The judging was nearly impossible as every appetizer and every entrée offered up by the four teams proved worthy of five-star designation,” said Chartwells/Tiger Dining Regional District Manager Bill Sallustro, who was one of four judges.
