Watch Corporate America Turn A Room Full Of Workers Into Bernie Sanders And Donald Trump Supporters

The past few years have been very good for United Technologies. The contractor does billions of dollars a year in business with the federal government. CEO Gregory Hayes pulled down nearly $10 million in 2014, and over $20 million the year before. On Thursday, the company reported $7.6 billion in profits, up from $6.2 billion the year before, and $5.7 billion the year before that. In October, United Technologies even expanded its stock buyback program to $12 billion. Spending the company's money to purchase its own stock elevates the value of its share prices. United Technologies was so flush with cash that it could burn money to boost returns for its investors.

Surely this largesse would trickle down to its rank-and-file employees, right?

Not exactly.

On Wednesday, Carrier, the air conditioner manufacturing wing of United Technologies, told workers at its Indianapolis plant that it would be outsourcing their jobs to Monterrey, Mexico.

"Throughout the transition, we must remain committed to manufacturing the same high-quality products," an executive can be heard insisting in a video of the announcement.

"Yeah, **** you!" a member of the crowd responds.

"Please quiet down," the official says. "This was an extremely difficult decision."

"Was it?!"

The United Technologies official delivering the bad news explicitly tells workers that they are not being laid off due to any failure on the job or lack of productivity. It's just business........

It's ok Homie. The righties tell us that there's plenty of jobs. They just need to apply themselves and pick themselves up by their boot straps. But do not under any circumstances go on welfare...lest they be pegged 'lazy'

I don't know anyone who would say this other than someone trying to be cute and failing.

I do consulting work for a company that has nearly shut down all of their production. They found out that it was cheaper make the product in China, ship it back here for assembly, and call it an American product. "Assembled in America" is what the stamp reads. Over 300 jobs were lost due to that stamp. Inside a HUGE room where there were once woodshops and metal presses/stamps there still remains a large banner hanging from the middle that says "Made in Meridian" with an American flag shield. Now the room is a dusty half-used warehouse. Good thing we want to lower taxes on imports while driving up the cost of labor here in the states. Remember to thank NAFTA, TPP, ACA, and the EPA for all their help. I mention the EPA because right before the shutdown i had to help them through a witch hunt. The EPA came in to inspect what they thought was a problem. Turns out it wasnt - so they tore the place apart looking for something. They found that one of the waste streams BEFORE the water treatment system was above the thresholds they reported would come from the process. Never mind that the treated water where the company was suppose to sample was dang near drinkable before going into the sanitary sewer. $200,000 dollar fine and a huge waste of taxpayer money.

Isn't it the Obama administration that promotes all of the new jobs created and backs it up with shrinking unemployment numbers? So, are there jobs available or not? What do the numbers say?

Dont know but whenever we have a discussion on social progam spending we get fed that line.

Don't confuse USN with the facts. Obama said we'd have plenty of shovel ready jobs, and then admitted those jobs weren't as shovel ready as he had hoped.

in my area, if you are willing to work there are jobs everywhere. Most of them suck as far as pay. This type of greed is to blame.

Absolutely shameful.

I admit I've struggled to understand what on earth anyone really sees in Trump. But those of you who wonder what anyone sees in a democratic socialist - read that whole article. Look at the video from the Indiana senator who feels deceived by these greedy bastards - and see if it starts to make a little sense. It isn't about free stuff. It's about a feeling that the game is so rigged, the playing field so tilted in favor of those who've already gotten theirs, yours, your neighbors and still want more, that they just want someone to come in and blow the game up.

C'mon that's not a rational conclusion. And immigration has nothing to do with shipping jobs to Mexico.

That's Trump strategy - focus on immigrants as a scapegoat. This problem is caused by corporate policy and corporate control of our political system.

homer, your partisan is showing. Those poor folks working for Carrier will find it even harder to find good paying jobs.

So lets just keep bringing in even more workers and taking even more jobs.

Ttitan is right. The tone deafness from some in DC is what is driving the electorate toward the crazies.

This has nothing to do with partisanship. Nor does it have anything to do with immigration. It's about US companies sending their jobs to countries where labor is cheap. It's about our political system bending over backwards to hand out subsidies to US companies and they screw us anyway.

Stopping immigration will do nothing to address it. These jobs weren't taken by immigrants working for less wages, they were "outsourced" by the company.

Meanwhile, these corporations have a much larger representation in our political system than ordinary citizens thanks in part to the dearly departed Scalia.

Partisanship is parroting the diversionary tactic of blaming immigrants for what corporations are responsible for.

I believe that a lot of Trump supporters would say that Trump will come in and blow the game up, just like others think that the democratic socialist will.

I heard someone put it like this. It's a what the hell kind of thing. People have been lied to repeatedly by people who end up as just another typical insider. They look at him. He's never held office so they figure why not.
