What are the chances he'll be ready to go next year? I need something--anything!--to get me excited about QB play in the present or future.

Well don't look for that optimism in this question, Golf has seen Woody the past 2 years & gave his eval.

Yeah Golf's eval of Woody is encouraging. Though I did read a Gridironnow article that said that while the scout in this article develops a much more favorable eval of Woody throughout the game, the initial comparison to KF is cringe-worthy:

http://gridironnow.c...looks-the-part/

And Frazier is a perfect example of why you don't put that pressure on a true freshman QB. Kiehl had all the potential in the world, but he wasn't given time to develop before being thrown to the wolves. That caused his career to spiral downward before it was even able to get started.

Consider it a cautionary tale for any who might start talking about the need to play Barrett if the other QBs don't fit the bill.

Right, not enough time to develop as a football player, and emotionally. Listening to Steele talk about Marlon Davidson is really interesting. Even if a kid is there physically and mentally, if he can't handle his emotions he won't fare well as a freshman. I definitely don't think Kiehl was ready emotionally, and probably not mentally either.

We can all come up with examples of freshmen qb's that laid an egg and also guys who got better and better. It's your mental make up that tells the story, and nobody can predict it

Apparently not even into your junior year.

Totally agree........Woody is a hard nose kid just needs to work on passing/reading defenses and continue to mature. But like cole says you never know until they're put into the position.

^Do we have a plan in case he needs another year as backup ('17)? As in, are there any JUCO QBs out there? The frustrating loop we seem to be caught in with developing HS QBs is that the only way for them to be experienced is, well, to get legit game time experience. Once we try to get them that experience, they seem to completely melt down (I'm mainly thinking of Kiehl Frazier, as well as imagining the panic on here next year if starting WB is even in strong consideration).

If Barrett starts next year the resulting panic will be justified.

^When I say "next year" I mean 2017. Since we're closer to 2016 than to 2015, can we just agree that "this year" means 2016? Plus, 2017 would be more fun to think about when considering how we seem to be coming apart at the seams for 2016. Hey, we're never down long.

Uh...message board chatter does not equate to the football team coming apart at the seams. Looking forward to a season down the road is a bit dramatic for a team that played for it all three years ago. There's still a ton of talent on the Plains, rest assured.

There is no doubt that we have a ton of talent. The question (it will be answered on the field) is do we have adequate coaching?

No way Woody will be ready to lead the offense this year. Too young, inexperienced and he hasnt even PRACTICED with us, and some of you think he could start for us this year? This is the SEC...remember?

^Definitely not this year. But in '17? As AUDevil said in the Narcisse thread, we'll be no better than 2015 until Gatewood has a year under his belt (so probably until 2019) if WB isn't ready by next year (2017)--that is, unless we go after another JUCO who actually started.

We should probably give Gus time to develop Barrett, but if he turns out to be another KF/JJ, then give Gus the pink slip.

Is Woody likely to qualify? Trying to think of a conceivable way we get out of this rut. Thankfully I never had to live through the '70s, but I'm fearing having to.

Is Woody taking the SAT this Saturday or in June? By all accounts he is a smart guy and has a 3.0+ GPA but he has yet to match that with the NCAA's "sliding scale" standardized test results minimum. Just inquiring so we know when to expect his test results.

Unfortunately, school smart and standardized test smart don't necessarily coincide. Does Auburn still take the ACT for admission? If so, students should take it. It's far less intimidating than the SAT and also easier for smaller schools to administrate. I remember when I was in school, I had to travel to the nearest big city to take the SAT, but I took the ACT at my school. I did ok, but not spectacular on the SAT and got the highest score in the school on the ACT.

So neither Sean White nor Tyler Queen has any chance to be adequate starters? The talent at receiver couldn't help any? The defense can't get any better with the depth along the line? Good grief. Troll much?

^If Gus adjusts his offense around NCM, KD and ES then yes it could fit SW's strengths. So there's that.

I wonder how some people get through life with that constantly negative approach to everything. Troll much?? Yes, he does, with every single post. Just wish we didn't have to read it every day. It's gotten really old.

Regardless of all the other unknowns, it would still be a plus to finally have WB's tests and scores behind him with him finally qualified and available to join the team for summer workouts.

Just a reminder that everyone we play in the SEC has about the same talent level and some of the better coaches in Div 1.JMO but will also take getting some good breaks along the way.
