UCLA to announce 15-year, $280 million deal with Under Armour

Largest in college football history ...

Under Armour and UCLA will announce a 15-year schoolwide shoe and apparel deal worth $280 million on Tuesday, sources told ESPN.com.

At those numbers, the deal would be the largest in college football history. In January, Ohio State said its 15-year deal with Nike was worth $252 million. Texas signed a 15-year deal with Nike worth $250 million in October, and Michigan signed an 11-year deal, with a four-year option, that could be worth up to $173.8 million.

Of all those schools, UCLA has gone the longest having not won a title in either college football or men's basketball, last winning the men's basketball tournament in 1995. UCLA has, however, won more championships than any other school, thanks in part to its excellence in softball, volleyball and water polo.

Officials for Under Armour declined to comment. A UCLA official could not immediately be reached.

Securing UCLA gives Under Armour an even stronger West Coast presence, as the company signed Cal just last month.

In the past few years, Under Armour has gotten more aggressive with college team deals, outbidding Adidas on both Wisconsin and Notre Dame.

UCLA had been with Adidas since 1999.

Do we just have some really negotiators? Why did we get < $80 million? We have been more relevant in the last two decades than UCLA.

AU has been a top 10 grossing merchandise college team the last 5 years. JABA deal to the core.

Behind Wis, Cal and UCLA? Thanks Jay.

Yep.

Actually we're not behind Wisconsin on a per year basis. Theirs is $8.6M per and ours is $8.68M per. That's around three quarters of a million dollars more over the next 9 years and then we get to rebid a year before them.

When did we sign our deal? Over a year ago right? I'm not sure. Under Armour has exploded in the last year, haven't they? Could we have simply been a touch unlucky when we negotiated?

We were really the first big school to go with them ... I know I second guessed it under tubbs. Remember the horrible "click-clack"?

Actually I don't own anything more than a couple AU hats. As a retiree I find the prices of AU gear from Under Armor to be obscene...and all the local Walmarts carry is UNC and USCe....and Clemson stuff.

And I forgot to mention...the carry bama stuff....

I'm in the same boat. In fact, I don't own a single Under Armour piece of AU clothing. My hat is a baseball cap from I don't know how long ago with a TPX logo on the back. My shirt is a button down that I found at Hibbet Sports also from long ago.

But I believe it was RIR that said that Nike, Adidas, etc. apparel all cost about the same as UA when you sit down and look at the lineups.
