I've frequently heard from bammers, particularly during the 6-game Auburn winning streak, that "Auburn only beats us when we're down" or some similar tripe.  Just some facts to set the records straight.  

Let's look at the last almost 3 decades (1980-2010).  In that time Auburn has won 17 in the series and Bama has won 14.

Auburn's victories breakdown like this:
4 series wins over 10-win (or more) Bama teams (23.5%)
3 series wins over 9-win Bama teams (17.6%)
3 series wins over 8-win Bama teams (17.6%)
12 wins over Bama teams with winning records (70.5%)
4 wins over Bama teams with losing records (23.5%)
AVERAGE RECORD OF BAMA TEAMS AUBURN BEAT:  7.5 wins, 4.5 losses

Alabama's victories breakdown like this:
0 series wins over 10-win (or more) Auburn teams
2 series wins over 9-win Auburn teams (14.3%)
4 series wins over 8-win Auburn teams (28.6%)
7 series wins over Auburn teams with winning records (50%)
5 wins over Auburn teams with losing records (38.5%)
AVERAGE RECORD OF AUBURN TEAMS BAMA BEAT:  6.4 wins, 5 losses

We're 4-7 in that time against the best Bama teams of the era, you're 0-7 against the best Auburn teams.  Fifty-nine percent of our wins in the era came over Bama teams with 8 wins or more.  Only 43 percent of yours come over 8-win or more Auburn teams.  Seventy-one percent of our wins in the era came over Bama teams with winning records while only 50% of yours came against AU teams with winning records.

If anyone takes advantage of the other team being down in this series, it's Bama.
