With Cameron Newton shredding opposing defenses, the running backs will have opportunities to make plays with defenses selling out to stop Newton. In the last two games, we have seen multiple long runs by the Auburn running backs, which should continue to happen as long as Newton continues to gash the opponent. Michael Dyer ripped off a long run to seal the Arkansas game two weeks ago and Onterio McCalebb recorded the longest run of his career against LSU.

The play…

Auburn comes out in what appears to be a 5-WR set but Onterio McCalebb will motion into the backfield just before the snap. At the snap, Auburn executes their zone-read play with the LSU defense focusing on Cameron Newton late in the game. Emory Blake makes the first key block, sealing the corner for McCalebb to turn up field. Kodi Burns makes the next key block as McCalebb advances up field. Terrell Zachery makes the final block that springs McCalebb down the sideline for a 70-yard touchdown run.

The offensive line did not allow any penetration and the wide receivers did a terrific job in clearing the remaining path for Onterio McCalebb to score. The 170-pound sophomore goes untouched on the play, utilizing his speed to finish off the play. In the last 3 games, Michael Dyer and Onterio McCalebb have combined for 331-yards on 43 carries, averaging 7.7 yards per rush. Michael Dyer is closer to becoming healthy, which should make the Auburn run-offense difficult to stop. McCalebb is not an every down back but he is certainly a threat to go the distance anywhere on the field.

You've got to give the WR's kudos for the job they have done this year blocking. This breakdown is an excellent example of what they provide the offense when they not catching passes.
Now, people when I say that look at me and say, 'What are you talking about, Joe? You're telling me we have to go spend money to keep from going bankrupt?'. The answer is yes, that's what I'm telling you.

The mix of RBs are really perfect.

IF only Fannin would stop fumbling...

Yep. A big part of why the offense is clicking so well is that the WR's really do a good job of blocking on the perimeter.

Kudos to ALL of the WRs for the job they have done all season of laying down blocks and clearing the path for Cam and the RBs. Phillip L. and Eric Smith have also done a tremendous job of putting folks on the ground.

I would love to see Eric and Phillip get the ball in their hands a little bit more. Maybe Coach GM is setting that up for some team a little further down the schedule. :big: :au:

You have to love the WR's blocking this year and last and the pride they are taking in it.
