AUBURN, Alabama -- Auburn has hired Tim Tebow's quarterback coach at Florida as its new offensive coordinator, the newspapers of al.com have learned.

Scot Loeffler is coming to Auburn after spending the 2011 season as Temple's offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.

Loeffler was Florida's quarterback coach in 2009, Tebow's last season, and was also with the Gators in 2010.

He's been a coach for 13 years, including the 2008 season with the Detroit Lions.

He'll be on the recruiting trail Monday morning.

Loeffler replaces Gus Malzahn, 40 days after the former offensive coordinator was named the head coach at Arkansas State.

The hiring of Loeffler completes a reshuffling of Gene Chizik's two most high-profile positions. Auburn hired former Atlanta Falcons defensive coordinator Brian VanGorder as its defensive coordinator earlier this month. The move gives Auburn coordinators with both college and NFL experience.

Loeffler's 2009 Florida quarterbacks led the nation in passing efficiency which included 3,305 yards for 28 touchdowns.

Loeffler, 37, played quarterback at Michigan from 1993-96, and was the Wolverines' quarterback coach from 2002-007. He was Central Michigan's quarterbacks' coach from 2000-01.

This is just puzzling to wait this long for this guy. Going by the timing of the hiring he could not have been Chizik's first choice, wonder how far he had to go before Chizik settled.

Sure didn't see that coming. Temple was surprising in a few games last year. I hope it was because of Loeffler.

Can someone give us something to get excited about here? Other than what's on this thread, I know nothing of the guy.

It was because of their defense which was the third rank defense in the country in terms of points allowed. Hiring their dc would have made more sense than this hire.

Woo-hoo! Glad that's done. Let's see, he coached Tom Brady and Tim Tebow. Sounds good to me. And I'm glad he starts recruiting on Monday! Let's get it on! Welcome Coach Loeffler!

I guess we should just trust Chizik on this one. I don't know what Recruits will think though. If it doesn't excite us, does it excite them?

Loeffler was at Michigan in 2002, Brady was drafted on 2000. He coached henne not Brady.

Don't read too much into the fact he was at Temple. They don't exactly have a ton of talent over there. They also averaged 256.5 Rush YPG. 7th in the nation.
