I don't like the helmet rule. When I played I had my helmet knocked clean off a time or two and would strap it back on quickly to whatever snaps didn't break and play the next play. Imagine a situation where we are driving the field for the win I.E. against Oregon and dyers helmet comes off the play before his big run. It takes him off the field for a play... Also imagine if your starting qbs helmet comes off and the next down is 3 and 10. Why not just allow the player to secure the helmet and keep going

I don’t like this rule either. A player is already required to leave the game if they’re injured and if there’s a problem with a helmet they won’t stop the game to allow it to be fixed. Unless the helmet is damaged to where it can’t function properly I really don’t see the purpose of this rule.

I think Drew is spot on here with the intent of the helmet rule. Helmets are coming off way to often over the course of a college game, and this is likely meant to encourage the players to wear the helmet that fits them properly and to wear it properly by snapping all the straps on the helmet.

Taking the players off the field for a play is a great way to "encourage" them to wear it properly and without actually having a flag thrown for a penalty. I like this rule change. It's a safety issue and there are players out there trying to get around the requirements for safety. This discourages that.

"We are Auburn. That’s all that matters, not what somebody on the outside thinks or doesn’t think. We are not defined or limited by the perceptions of others. We don’t need a T-shirt from Wal Mart boasting about things that never were to boost our ego. We don’t use our battle cry as a taunt to prop up our self-esteem. Our sense of worth isn’t determined by the number of stickers and flags we can put on our car." - Never To Yield Foundation

There are some games and teams were helmets seem to come off more. The 2010 Auburn vs Clemson game had numerous plays were clemson players lost helmets. This could be as simple as poor equipment setup by the Clemson staff. Helmets not being fitted and strapped on properly.
