AUBURN, Alabama -- Auburn tight end/H-back Philip Lutzenkirchen is still in a sling after having surgery to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder two weeks ago.

He is likely out for spring practice.

Lutzenkirchen, whose 14 career touchdowns is a school record for a tight end, has been one of Auburn's most consistent players and the master of big plays over the last three years. His fourth-quarter touchdown catches beat Alabama in 2010 and beat South Carolina in 2011.

He had 24 catches for 238 yards and seven touchdowns last season. His TD total led the receivers and was the second most on the team. His 24 catches were the third highest total for the Tigers. He has 44 catches for 489 yards in his career.

...even the usually obnoxious al.com/Bama commentors after the article can say only good things about Lutz!

Wish him a full & speedy recovery. He can learn Loeffler's scheme on paper while rehabing--and he is already proven on the field. Meanwhile, more reps for younger guys in the spring.

...but the big question: When can he get back on the dance floor?

The only issue I have w/ how that piece is written is that it says Lutz is " still " in an arm sling. Yeah, and so what ? Is that an issue ? Is he suppose to be OUT of the sling by now ? I kinda think, after such a surgery, he'd be fine w/ a sling for a couple or few weeks. Never had such work done, but unless stated otherwise..., what's the big deal ?

4-6 weeks in sling, depending upon surgeon
