I have more than passing knowledge of forestry practices, including herbicide action. These things are not intended to work like Roundup and the other "fast burn" herbicides you might spray around your house to get rid of weeds. Spike DF 80 works by, in simplified terms, starving the tree to death. That takes time. It's very slow but also very certain. While I'm hoping for a miracle, I don't think these trees will survive.

I'd like to know who Updyke's accomplice was. Updyke himself wouldn't have had the intelligence or knowledge to select this herbicide and acquire it. Somebody else is involved.

Google? Making idiots into criminals one degenerate at a time.

Somebody had to supply it to him. Pretty sure you can't walk into lowes and buy the stuff.

I don't think Updyke has enough intelligence to go to Google and select that herbicide. However....the guy whose house he was living in at Dadeville is also a bammer. He works on a crew maintaining gas and power lines. The guy's job is keeping brush and trees cleared from their rights-of-way. How hard is it for the authorities to connect some dots?

One of the criminal charges against Updyke is stealing it.

Hey Thanks, I was just going to post about it, to see if anyone has photos.
"The Biggest Auburn Football Fan who did not grow up anywhere near Alabama". My Auburn experience included working for the Athletic Department, WEGL and SGA and all of them maybe more important in making who I am today, than my degrees from Auburn.

You're exactly right.  That was his accomplice.  And for illegally disributing that stuff he is in violation of several federal laws.  He should be prosecuted as well.  I can't recall where but I did read that a few cannisters of that stuff were found in his garage.

While it remains to be seen if the trees have any chance, Updyke may have screwed up the whole plan by calling into Finebaum.  The trees may yet die, but without the early warning provided by Updyke's radio call, probably no one would have known of the poisoning and initiated the intensive rescue efforts until it was definitely too late.  What kind of idiot reports his plot before it even reaches fruition?
