  1. Overall, very encouraged by what I saw yesterday in both games. Yes, they could have and should have won the second game against Washington. A terrible call at the plate in the 7th (from what I heard from those actually at the game) cost us a run and tied the game but we also had our chances and weren’t able to capitalize. But I still believe that there are so many more positive than negative takeaways from the performance of these young ladies. It’s the second time they’ve had to play 4 games in less than 24 hours (or so) in a 7 day period. And the game against Washington was the last of the 4 game stretch for us and the first of the tournament for Washington. If you saw or followed Florida’s game against the Huskies last night, Florida did not fair well at all against Alvelo with only 4 hits and 15!!! K’s. We had a total of 9 hits and 8 K’s (not sure the split between Alvelo and Plain). So proud of this team and the heart and fight that they have shown. Easy for us to sit back after the fact and question decisions by the coach or even the players but did anyone really think this game would even come to the wire? Based on comments I’ve read from various places, this team was done after losing 2 in Gulf Shores. One of the auburn sports sites even posted a poll to ask folks if they were even interested anymore in auburn softball coverage after their 2 losses in Gulf Shores. This was only 5 games into the season! Still many games to be played but I really like what I’ve seen so far.

  4. Thanks.....was a tough schedule for the weekend out there and guess I'm not that disappointed that the ladies can return home early. Overall, seems like a very successful trip to the west coast.....

  5. Often overlooked is the fact that Auburn had taken control of the game and was dominating. Before the kick attempt, I had a solid feeling that if the guy missed that kick we'd win in overtime. Still, the Kick 6 play was a thing of beauty.

  7. Ties the single game record with guys like Mize, Hudson, Bootcheck, Powell and Chapman...pretty strong company. I caught Mark Chapman a thousand times (in the bullpen, LOL), didn't realize he had a 15 strikeout game. I knew John Powell had about a million K's, he holds the NCAA career strikeout record with over 600 which will never be broken.

  10. That International Tiebreaker rule has been in place for years. The point is to break the tie quickly. It was developed for tournament play with timed games and to keep tournaments on schedule. Putting the runner on first sets up the double play which more than likely would extend the game.

  12. UCLA didn't want any part of us lol. Successful trip IMO. Our hitting held up for the most part, just needed to get the timely hit. I think the OT rules should adjust to a player on 1st instead of 2nd. Still let the offense earn it somewhat. Basically 1 hit scores a run with a player on 2nd. I don't think the initial runner on 2nd in OT should count towards pitching ERA since that runner is basically un earned. If the batter eventually scores than yes.

  13. That was as effortless a performance from Burns as any I can remember. Similar to a few of Mize’s outings last year. The ball was just jumping out of his hand all night. If he’s been sitting in the rocking chair all season, then he wasn’t in a glide rocker last night.

  14. Congress has oversight responsibility which is a duty the Republicans ignored. And every piece of information revealed about Trump's negligence, corruption, malfeasance, lying and incompetence will only help to defeat him next year. That's what you are " missing".

  15. My intention was not to say Cox wasn't tough or disparage him, because his reputation is that he's tough and he also was dealing with a muscle disease. He took a beating during his years and his play declined as the years went by in part because of the beatings he was taking and his waning confidence in his OL, much like Stidham, affected his play. Stidham imagined pressure that wasn't there but Cox did the same, but rather than flush out unnecessarily Cox just made poor decisions in the pocket once he had reached unfixable levels of overthinking about the pressure. Cox first season was were very good, his last 2 had a clear decline with a sharp drop off at the end. Stidham's first was very good, 2nd he was average/mediocre. IMO both were caused by guys getting hit so much they no longer felt comfortable and confident in their protection which caused their play to dwindle. I mean we benched a senior Cox for Burns for a period of time because Cox was playing so poorly. And Cox is viewed positively while JS has much more detractors it feels like. None of this is to say I think JS has even average pocket presence, because he doesn't. But I found it interesting our other actually productive QB that got hit a lot and also played a little scared has lost that rep over the years and I wonder if Stidham will as well.

  16. We scored more runs on Washington than any team has yet I think. Florida and Washington are 0-0 in the seventh right now. Some top teams lost today...Georgia and LSU lost. I’m bummed we lost but I feel better about our team than when the weekend started.

  18. I don't recall Cox being skittish, although definitely not saying it didn't happen. It's just pretty rare in major college football to find a starter at any position who fears contact. You sort've have to relish it. You have to enjoy the gladiator aspect of it to some extent or you will never survive. In my humble high school experience as a receiver/tight end, catching a pass while getting BLASTED was actually pretty fun. Knowing you could take someone's best shot and still pop up no problem. That's what makes football different.

  32. Those aren't guaranteed to work, UW has a pretty good defense and would obviously be trying to make the play at home, you would need good placement if you're going for soft contact. With hard contact, you can force errors or just get the ball through.

  36. To that I would say look at 05-06 Cox and you would see one of the tougher guys on record. I think he ended up sustaining at least one pretty serious injury. I would suggest that Stidham started 2018 off in that mode and never really put anything on film that suggests he's a gamer when things around him break down. So ultimately, I do agree with @AUght2win, lol.

  39. The best thing would be for him to sit behind a vet, learn how to read a defense and learn the speed of the game. I pray he doesn’t get drafted by a team with a questionable starter.

  40. FYI - My response was to aujeff, who asked "Who the hell does two pro days these days, what was the purpose of doing the first?" Saban can be analyzed and criticized about a ton of stuff. But his attention to detail, connections to the NFL and his approach to preparing his players to standout for an nfl scout is not something that can be questioned, JMHO.

  41. You’re kidding, right? There’s always a health issue when you’re dealing with (potential million dollar) arms. Some pitches are far more stressful than others. UCF the second weekend of the season is of absolutely no consequence. Vision at the highest level is a beautiful yet, obviously, mysterious thing.

  42. Fans will continue to hate question Butch (and Steve Smith) for this...the parents of those kids and especially the big league teams that draft them will grow in their admiration for him. One of the most unselfish coaches you will ever see with respect to how he handles pitchers.

  44. Brown was a better defender last year because he was part of a 3 headed monster on O allowing him to use more energy on D. This year we need him to do more heavy lifting on O which in turn is affecting his defensive production. There are a few things that we needed to go our way for Bryce to get back to junior year Bryce. Danjel needed to not look so far from where he was as a freshman. We needed Wiley to be healthy an a reliable offensive option. We needed Chuma to consistently take a noticeable and sizeable chunk of what left with Heron and he hasn't asserted himself to the point of alleviating Bryce from having to do so much on O.

  45. Bryant Smith. But he is a little outside the 15 year range I think. But he would bring leadership and an all-round game on offense and defense we need.

  46. I'm a huge fan of 3* Ja'Varrius Johnson and you can look back through 3* Ja'Varrius Johnson's thread for evidence of that- in fact, I might have been the first person to compare 3* Ja'Varrius Johnson to Ryan Davis on this forum- but 3* Ja'Varrius Johnson has never played a down of college football in his life. And if I come across as a smart ass, I'm 100% being one because I get chapped by the "says hi" thing. And I just found out that my car that's in the shop isn't going to be ready today and that's all kinds of problematic for me. War Damn 3* Ja'Varrius Johnson.
