  1. It is time we quit the bickering. Gus had some really good teams and some very mediocre teams. Gus was a class act as a man and as a coach who represented Auburn well and who loved Auburn. The issues is as the years progressed the mediocre became the norm. There were many reasons for this fairly highly rated recruiting classes that were not well balanced (O-Line in particular). The rules changed but Gus's offense didn't. When Gus arrived his offense was one of the best it was new and teams had not figured it out plus the rules changed. In defense of Gus he also inherited anemic defensive talent. He addressed that with the assistants he hired on defensive side and we became strong there again. Gus was good for Auburn for a while but he did not evolve. Look at Saban and look how his teams have evolved offesively over the years. Weak O-line which Harsin inherited and WR's that had not run a sophisticated Route tree and at the time he was hired a very weak recruiting class put Harsin behind the 8 ball. Passing attack improved under Harsin and pass blocking improved but run blocking was anemic which negated what should have been our strength our RB's as we had 3 good ones. As the schedule got tougher our O-Line woe's were magnified and to be honest we made some bad decisions like going into a shell on offense after a great 1st half against Miss. State. We also lost Bo. With a healthy Bo we probably win 2 or 3 of the games at end of the year. Sometimes a season is made or broken just on a few plays a miracle pass that bounced off of defender for a TD, a kick six the other side of that is in Gus last year a fumble when Bo spikes ball backward and Ref's miss it. There was another game where ref's blew it add those two losses in Gus last year and he does not have a very good year at the end. Let's except that Gus was a good man who represented Auburn well by running a clean program, loving the school but did not evolve and it was time to go. Lets except that the team that Harsin inherited had some talent but also some weaknesses and lacked depth. Lets except that a couple coaching decisions hurt us and having Bo hurt impacted our win-loss totals. What I am seeing from Harsin is recognition that our recruiting staff was anemic and not on par with staffs at UGA, Bama , etc. He has tried to address that but it takes time, Harsin did not totally understand SEC recruiting with building relationships with HS coaches, and he had issues with being available to some players. Lets also except that the debacle with the Harsin investigation will be hard to overcome as we know how cut throat SEC recruiting is and oppossing coaches will say he is a lame duck coach. Harsin has shown he can evolve starting to work with HS coaches being more available to players, being tough but still doing some fun things. Also remember all the players who left and said bad things about him were impressed with his determination to win and his knowledge. So we don't need to bring up Gus when defending Harsin or when blaming Harsin. You can't compare multiple year record with a one year record when so much has changed with new Transfer rules, NIL, key Injury to starting QB. We are so divided that one group says losing a key player like Kerryon hurt us greatly but discounts the loss of starting QB as a big reason behind end of season swoon.

  2. Pay for play is nothing new. Bama didn’t just start randomly dominating for no reason. Same for early 2000’s USC

  4. No one may have anticipated the exact development of the NIL collective. Anyone that didn't know this would turn into pay for play is extremely naive. I thought the NCAA fought NIL to the bitter end. Once California made it legal, there was not much the NCAA could do after that.

  5. Who's everyone pulling for today? I'm all underdogs at this point. Miami (vs Kansas) and St Peter's (vs UNC).

  6. Mueller wasn't concerned with accounting and tax evasion. Unlike Ken Starr, he wasn't given an unlimited scope to search for a crime. I'm not a fan of looking for criminal conduct until you find something. There aren't many people that the right investigation couldn't find some sort of crime to charge them with. The one thing that the Trump organization is right about is the fact that most of their prior conduct, although illegal, is commonplace in the business sector in New York. It just further proves that he really had no idea that he could actually win the nomination when he decided to run. It was about growing his brand.

  7. Don't doubt it. I didn't bother to check the stats, but all year I thought that if we had Jared and Bryce with our bigs........OH MY!!!! ps Auburn was the best team and the probable winner in the tournament in 2019, when zebras forgot what double dribble was. And a guy coming from standing out of bounds to get a rebound and a put back at the half. Yes. I am still bitter.

  8. I don't see the NCAA surviving very long. Not sure why the major conferences are letting them get in the way of further liberalization of the compensation rules, set the terms of playoffs, etc., any longer. The NCAA doesn't really work in anyone's interest but the NCAA's. As I have said before, some of this will be ridiculous for a while until folks figure out what kind of spending actually makes sense. Just like with most sports endorsements, a few will hit it big...most won't. But, many will get some $$ that will make a big change to their financial circumstances...hope they can manage it and it helps propel them to a better life.

  9. Agreed. NCAA is the problem. It can't be reformed, so we need a new league imo. If anyone is getting mad/upset that a HS kid can make 6-7 figures to play college sports they are 1 or 2 things: 1. Envious 2. Socialist The best players have always gotten paid. Always. This is a fact. This is nothing new. The only thing different about it is that the numbers are going up because you can legally pay and companies can sponsor. The fact this is an Auburn board and some people aren't comfortable with kids getting paid. Boy, do I have some stories for you.

  10. I've really enjoyed listening to TAMU's broadcasting team this series. Very impartial, with a recent former TAMU player in the booth as well. It's been fun. Series win doesn't hurt either! WDE!

  13. Allsup comes in and immediately hits a batter and then gives up a 3-1 walk. Infield fly for out 1 but an error by Moore as he and Foster run into each other and drop the catch. Runner on 2nd advances to 3rd. Aaaand the error is costly as a sac fly scores a runner. 8-8 Tied game and I have to go into work so won't be able to finish the updates. Maybe someone else will take over.

  14. We're going to have to look at another option at 2nd. Cox has been having alot of fielding issues lately. At least we would have been tied had Smith not gotten out on that steal attempt.

  15. Yep. 2 girls have hurt us this series. Coffel and Abernathy. Penta was likely a better choice against Coffel but bringing more speed against Abernathy was not ideal. Walk her and take our chances with the batter behind her. Crap. We controlled the whole game except the 7th.

  18. I wonder if what the announcers said about Lisenby might be true. Having her behind the plate giving that energy might fire Lowe up as well. Lisenby was starting early in the season when Lowe was dealing. And ever since Godwin has started behind the plate, Lowe has struggled. Who knows if Lowe just feeds off of that energy.

  19. I saw Lowe take a moment to gather herself before that last strikeout pitch. I wonder if it's been injury or something mental with her recent struggles or maybe a little of both. But she composed herself and threw a perfect pitch. She looks more to form today.

  20. I completely disagree. They don’t deserve it. You earn it. And that’s the problem. A kid coming out of high school and never playing a down of college football doesn’t deserve a million dollars. Meanwhile, the track, baseball, tennis, swimming and so on, have to pay to play sports. Why don’t they deserve a full scholarship? Until that is fixed, everything else is just bullsh*t.

  21. Who said that? Connected family members often benefit from those connections, which may be unfair, but not necessarily illegal. If it crosses the line into illegality, prosecute.

  22. Quote is from the article. I think many on this board anticipated the rich getting richer, though the exact mechanism was not yet known. Few, if any college football fans are against players getting money for playing, they earn it. Anyone who had football or scholarship athletes in other sports in their classes at Auburn knows those athletes earn what they get. However, I'm not certain that this current NIL system doesn't mark the end of college sports as we have known them.

  27. I was agreeing that he pretty well stated what you are trying to say. Obviously you are just wanting to be argumentative this afternoon while I am trying to enjoy Auburn/A&M baseball. Been a great series with rubber game turning into a typical Sunday slugfest. 8 -7 us top of 6th. Have a beer and watch it.

  28. I’m not sure what Dean could have done. if they walk Abernathy u put the tying run in scoring position w less than 2 outs. u should no problem bringing in a fresh arm knowing Lowe has had her struggles until today. its definitely subjective on his options. They all have pluses/ minuses. I agree I totally hate it for Lowe pitching a great game.

  30. A 5-star recruit who has played the publicity game correctly is highly valued and is entitled to whatever some poor soul is willing to pay him. Compensation in nearly every profession is part meritocracy, part all that other stuff we generally loathe. Why does a D1 tennis player “deserve” compensation? If enough people want to watch them play or if enough t-shirts are sold because of their presence on the team, they’ll get it.

  32. They may call for it. They can conduct congressional hearings to see if they uncover any reason for one for Joe. But Biden left Trump’s US Attorney investigating Hunter in place— there’s no reason to question his independence. If he finds something implicating Joe, he can turn that over. Right now it’s just rank speculation that Joe did anything illegal.

  33. If we had to wait until September to get commits, we'd be almost 3/4 through the race and wildly behind. Well have nearly double digit commits by the time the season starts. I agree. Having 1 right now isn't worrisome. But spring is when ppl start getting commits and I think we'll have a couple more by the end of ours

  34. Texas A&M currently has 3, 2023 commits... Alabama 2. Auburn 1; UGA 7. Not sure what to take away from this.

  35. I wonder if the “overreaction” to Harsin’s relatability issues is due to the Auburn recruiting pitch of being family. For years, that’s been the main selling point. We’re not a soulless football factory like Tuscaloosa. At Auburn, you’re part of a tight knit group that genuinely cares about each other. Players were recruited under this philosophy with Gus, and some of those players didn’t know how to adjust when Harsin was more business like in his approach.

  37. Auburn broadcast talking about the sticker gate for Land's bat last night. Said that the players watched the game back on SEC Network and during his at bat you can see the sticker that it was approved and then sometime between the hit and the umps looking at the bat the sticker came off. If the stickers come off that easily, there needs to be a better system.

  41. Why would it already be too late? Tennessee is not in our situation. Tennessee nearly the tumultuous drama that we had in the last three months. I don't see any kid committing to us unless we show we can win and CBH will stay. I mean half this fanbase just knew this guy was going to get fired about a month and half ago and now they are wondering why people won't commit? This is a marathon. not a sprint. This kid Tennessee got so early on, might not even keep his commit come next December.

  42. It's ok....the evil continues to flow through the Clinton Foundation as it always has. The connections that group has with Russian and Chinese influence is sickening. As for Hunter and his laptop.....he was a loose cannon and Joe should have kept him as far away from anything that could have blown up in their faces. Power makes a lot of people think they are immune.

  43. This same media ran with the Steele Dossier where there were so many red flags it wasn't funny especially when they knew it had been paid for by the DNC. I would give the media the benefit of the doubt on the Hunter Biden laptop that they couldn't confirm so didn't want to run with it if they had used same standard with Steele Dossier. This is the same media that was sued when they went after some kids who were confronted by an American Indian and they assumed the Kids were racists and started it. This is the same media that accused border patrol agents of whipping Hattian illegal's based on some photograph's and continued to press that story even after the photographer explained they were long reins and never whipped the Hattian's.

  44. I don’t understand why this concept is so hard, but I highly doubt we will see anyone pull the final trigger to commit until they see the on field results. Why would any decent recruit commit right now after the tumultuous last 3 months unless they are just a die hard auburn fan? I sure as hell wouldn’t commit at this point that is for sure. Good for the coaching staff jumping ahead of the curve and establishing meaningful relationships. That will do wonders down the line.

  46. Bryan Harsin is trying to get better. But that’s always been the case for him. The study of self-improvement is one of his favorite topics to talk about. He said as much this spring, after the turmoil of the offseason settled and the Auburn football team opened spring camp and swapped social media chaos for the familiar rhythm of practice and drills. And so it’s no secret in the athletics complex now that Harsin is trying to get better this spring at relating to his team at Auburn, and is trying to build a better connection with his players from all backgrounds. “I think that’s just for the better of the program,” Auburn corner Nehemiah Pritchett said Wednesday, as the Tigers got set for another day of practice. “Players want to play for coaches who care about them. Coach Harsin, he’s shown that he cares lately.” Players said Wednesday that when Harsin got back in early February, he opened up in a team meeting about being a better communicator with the young people on his team while telling them his office door is always open. Harsin, for his part, has also pointed to how COVID-19 numbers were still high when he first got to Auburn. The recent team activities Auburn’s enjoyed outside the complex this offseason — like going on a paintball trip — are things the team would’ve done when he first got to Auburn if it weren’t for the pandemic, he said. Either way, departures from the program led into a wellness check from the university president’s office this past January, and players say Harsin is working harder this spring to ensure everyone in the program feels comfortable and heard. “I could tell when I first came, it was just, like, football,” defensive lineman Marcus Harris said of the focus under Harsin. “I’m used to that football mindset, but you never know how other people might take that. They probably took it the wrong way, like he didn’t care about them. But in actuality, he was just trying to win and getting the program up, because he’s a new coach. “He’s got to put his foot down and let everybody know that he’s not a run-over coach. He’s a serious coach. But I saw it when he first came here.” It was in late January and early February that the university president’s office opened its investigation. One former player Lee Hunter said on social media that players were treated “like dogs” under Harsin and another, Smoke Monday, said that Harsin can’t relate to players “from the hood.” Complicating the wellness check was a previously scheduled vacation for Harsin. Ultimately, school president Jay Gogue announced Auburn found nothing in its investigation that should change Harsin’s status as head football coach — while bemoaning the rumors that ran rampant on social media, many of them completely unrelated to what was going on. When Harsin got back from vacation in early February, and Gogue affirmed that he’d still be Auburn’s football coach, Kilian Zierer said Harsin opened up in a team meeting. “The first meeting we had, he told everybody his room’s always open,” Zierer said. “If you have any issues, just walk right in. He acknowledged that he didn’t do the best job, I guess, last year, and he said he wants to improve it. And the first meeting we had, he pretty much said, whenever there’s an issue [to bring it to him] — and he’s going to try to be better with everybody, if that makes sense. “He wants to relate more to everybody. I think he’s done a much better job of that already.” Ultimately, like Pritchett, Harris thinks the program is better for what happened. And the Tigers and the head coach are moving forward together. “Not before the situation that happened in February, but I guess people were scared to talk to him one-on-one. But he’s not a scary person to talk to,” Harris said. “He told us, he didn’t know that’s what he was missing, what we needed. As a team, as a unit, as a collective group, we were like, ‘Yeah, that’s what some people need,’ because you’ve got people coming in from all different parts of the country and you never know what they’re going through at home, because they can’t see their family. “You’ve got to ask them how their family’s doing and how their mom’s doing and family and grandparents and stuff like that. So I feel like he’s doing better with that part. I feel like that’s going to help us even better this season.”
