  1. Just glancing at the roster. 16 total, 7 freshman and a JC transfer, so half the team is "new". I know Riley Donahue now at a program in Maryland, but I was wondering what happened to Annie Hughs. I believe I read that she graduated this month, but I believe she would have been a senior this year and played a lot last season. Jala Jordan transferred to Seaton Hall and Adaora Onwumelu to College of Charleston.
  2. The article makes it sound as though at the time she decided to transfer, you had to sit out 1 year if the transfer was within the same conference. That has been changed. This from a June 2021 article: "The NCAA announced in April that it will now allow undergraduate student-athletes across all sports to transfer one time without having to sit out a year-in-residence, as had previously been the rule for revenue sports. Despite that, individual conferences were still bound to their existing rules that prevented players from playing immediately in the event that they transfered between member institutions. The SEC on Thursday was the latest to strike down its rule as the conference announced that the SEC Presidents and Chancellors have amended the league's policy and will now allow undergraduates to play immediately even if they transfer within the conference. "
  3. Took a look at our pre-conference schedule and saw AU plays on September 9,10 and 11 in UAB Tournament. Opponents will be UAB Troy and North Florida. Also play in Atlanta August 26 and 27 in Georgia State Tournament. For folks living in these areas seems like good opportunity to see/support the team. I plan to attend at least some of the games in Birmingham. Will be my first time to attend an AU volleyball game.
  4. That is a bit confusing since she was with the Vols in '20 and '21. The following article I believe provides some clarity. https://247sports.com/college/auburn/Article/Former-Tennessee-player-signs-joins-Auburn-softball-team-190935028/
  5. Tennessee transfer to join AU softball: https://auburntigers.com/news/2022/8/3/softball-lands-tennessee-transfer-kk-mccrary.aspx?fbclid=IwAR1ZsGJxmhflTgEHQPfZ8DtoCTQ4RmFzCiHa2r0z0ej1DEiP3N8qOhWMftg
  6. You may be correct and I hope that is the case. I could not understand why they have Buchanan listed as the associate HC. Info from the AU announcement I believe supports your post. Also, currently the AU BB site does not show Bob Starkey on the staff last season as far as I can tell. Did he get vaporized? Veteran WNBA coach Fred Williams joins Auburn women's basketball staff - Auburn University Athletics (auburntigers.com)
  7. That likely would have been a good hire but he apparently decided to stay with WNBA LA Sparks. On the surface, I would guess this is a set-back program wise to lose Starkey and then what would appear to have been a good replacement. You are right Mikey, not much in the way of visibility regarding this "story". https://www.swishappeal.com/wnba/2022/6/8/23160108/los-angeles-sparks-interim-head-coach-fred-williams-derek-fisher-fired-news-wnba
  8. Don't know if this has been reported on the forum but I just realized that Bob Starkey (assistant coach) is now the associate head coach at LSU, having taken that position in April. LSU women's BB was 13 - 3 in conference last year and thought enough of Coach Starkey to offer the Associate HC position. I consider this a big loss for the AU porgram. Damitria Buchanan has been promoted to Associate HC at AU https://auburnwire.usatoday.com/2022/04/13/auburn-basketball-bob-starkey-womens-assistant-lsu-tigers-kim-mulkey/
  9. Looking at our VB roster shows 13 players with 7 freshman. Here they are making a fashion statement. https://www.facebook.com/AuburnVB/videos/721124372296841
  10. From her twitter page (2024 commit): Isabella Humphrey @BellaHumphrey4 · Jul 22 I am SO incredibly excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Auburn University. I would like to thank my coaches, family, and friends that have helped me get to where I am today. Go tigers! #WarEagle Some Video:
  11. From Extra Innings Softball: Axe Milanowski selected 1st team high school All American (infield) and Emmah Rolfe selected 2nd team (pitcher).
  12. Must agree. Very strong case for Penta. She clearly "matured" from freshman season to soph. season and was a warrior. Don't know how I could have left her off my list. If you are going to battle, you want her on your team. There is much to like about a lot of these players
  13. Everyone has their favorites but for me it was #12, Carlee McCondichie. Thought she played very well in the outfield at beginning of 2022 season then did excellent job taking over at 2nd base after injury to Bryant. Very good speed and versatile hitter. Seems very business-like in her approach to the game. Below is from the AU Softball Roster page. 2022 | JUNIOR SEASON: One of two student-athletes to appear in all 57 contests … started 56 games with 30 starts in left field and 26 at second base … spending most of the season at the bottom of the order, led the team with 46 hits and a .338 batting average … finished third on the team with 10 multi-hit games … scored 32 runs to finish second on the squad … knocked six doubles, two triples and four home runs and held a .500 slugging percentage with 21 RBI … added four multi-RBI efforts … posted a .372 on-base percentage with help of seven walks … closed the season with eight stolen bases on 10 attempts … committed just two errors to post a .977 fielding percentage … named to the Tiger Invitational, Plainsman Invite and Jane B. Moore Memorial All-Tournament Teams … matched her career high with three runs scored in Auburn’s season opener against Seton Hall (2/11) … went 2-for-2 with her first collegiate triple and a career high three RBI versus St. John’s (2/13) … with a two-run blast versus Wisconsin (2/18) at the St. Pete Clearwater Elite Invitational, knocked her first home run since Feb. 16, 2020 versus UNCW … turned in a three-hit performance against ULM (2/25), adding a double and a run scored … was her first three-hit effort since March 8, 2020 at Florida … went 3-for-3 with three runs scored, three RBI and two home runs against North Carolina A&T (3/5) … first player in Auburn history to hit an inside-the-park home run and an out-of-the-park home run in the same game … following Denver Bryant’s season-ending injury, moved to second base against Alabama State (3/30) and remained at the position for the remainder of the season … slugged a three-run home run against No. 15 Georgia (4/29) to give the Tigers a lead to complete Auburn’s comeback victory … went 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored in Auburn’s win over Louisiana (5/20) at the Clemson Regional. Bri Ellis sure got my attention; especially being a freshman. I thought played a good 1st base and of course her power at the plate. Again, another business-like player. Also loved the energy of Lisenby. Lot of players to like; these are just a few I will mention. Look forward to watching them going forward. Who caught your eye?
  14. Not a true coaching change but change in job title. Ken Brook now listed as Volunteer Assistant Coach as opposed to Graduate Assistant . https://auburntigers.com/sports/softball/roster/coaches/ken-brooke/3680
  15. Saw where Jenna Lord is transferring to Ol'Miss.
  16. Posting this here as it ties together some of what has and is being discussed on this thread: https://247sports.com/college/auburn/Article/Softball-comings-and-goings-Lowe-Bryant-make-major-progress-a-veteran-returns-a-big-time-transfer-arrives-189136555/
  17. I thought this was fun to watch and gives good perspective of what it looks like as a hitter. Emmah Rolfe will wear #4 in orange and blue next season. Watching this I suspect that by the time I decided to swing, the catcher would be throwing the ball back to the pitcher.
  18. A little more on Widra: https://auburntigers.com/news/2022/6/23/softball-michigan-softball-standout-annabelle-widra-transfers-to-auburn.aspx
  19. A couple of articles up on the AU softball site regarding Penta and Ellis. http://auburntigers.com/softball
  20. I don't know why anyone would like to spend another year squatting behind the plate, wearing hot equipment, working that hard and getting all dirty and sweaty. All the catchers have my respect and admiration; especially the ones in Auburn uniforms. Bit of a funny story......Years ago, I don't recall if it was after a fall ball game or early season game I went down on the field to get some autographs and talked with Courtney Shea for a couple of minutes. I asked her why in the world she would want to be a catcher. She said when she first started playing softball, her dad was her coach and she had trouble paying attention in the outfield so he put her at catcher where she would have to pay attention.
  21. Not sure how you would come to that conclusion. Below is her twitter statement. Could it be that she wants to continue to play a sport she apparently loves with people she cares about. She and Lisenby had nearly equal games played and starts. Lisenby BA .269 while Godwin BA .235 Godwin more HR by 10 to 2. Godwin SO 25 Lisenby SO 13. Lisenby had slightly better fielding %. Since the catcher arriving this fall has not yet played college ball I don't see how we make any judgement there.
  22. Agree, would hope Blaine would be part of the team. She did not get much time behind the plate this season and a highly ranked catcher in the incoming class (Skylar Elkins). I have been a fan of Cox and would be disappointed to see her not be a part of the team. I imagine some of the players have to make a difficult choice. For instance Blaine. She arrived as highly ranked recruit at her position and fell into the # 3 catcher behind a senior and another highly ranked catcher. Elkins is also highly ranked arriving this fall and it is unknown how well she might transition from high school to college. Blaine may reasonably be #2 or even #1 but could also remain at #3 position wise. There may be other teams that would provide a clearer path to playing time for her. Just using Blaine as an example. The same situation likely exist for a number of players.
  23. That's what I was thinking and hoping. At this point the staff would be composed of 1 Freshman, 1 Sophomore, 2 Juniors and 1 Senior. Also, like others, sorry to see Schmidt in the portal. Felt she was developing into a good player. Forgot she is from Ohio which could also enter into her decision. Expect to hear good things about her in the future.
  24. Something I intended to mention about the Oklahoma hitters. On some of the "replays" of home runs, they seem to keep their eye on the ball and track it to the bat, at the bat and as it leaves the bat. Seems that I see a lot of hitters pull their head up and off the ball but not so with Oklahoma. Some of the balls they launched were too much over the plate but others appeared to be good pitches that the batter was able engage and overpower. Their hitting stats support their skill and selectivity.
  25. I was pulling for the underdog and got put in my place quickly in game 1 via run rule. Longhorns gave slightly better account of themselves in game 2 but still appears obvious that it is Oklahoma vs the rest of the world. Texas appeared to lose their composure. Easy to see how they could be intimidated. For the combined series Oklahoma had 26 runs to 6 for Texas, 29 hits to 9 for Texas and committed 1 error vs 6 for Texas. Oklahoma hit 8 HR in the two games. Both are supposed to join the SEC I believe in 2025.
