  2. There is no doubt the addition of Nick Marshall to the Auburn offense has made the offense far more dynamic. During the 6 games Marshall has appeared in this season, he's been directly involved in 34 of Auburn's 50 impact plays. He has picked up 22 first downs running the football this season. When you consider a first down is basically worth 1.4 points, that's an additional 31 points this season Marshall has added to the scoring by running the football. Though there are aspects of his passing game he needs to improve, Marshall has certainly shown the ability to deliver under pressure. On t
  3. Ricardo Louis comes into game #8, second on the team in receptions. He's also the second most targeted player in Auburn's pass-offense with 31 passes thrown his way on the season. Based on his contributions in the passing & running game, Louis is normally involved in 5 to 7 plays per game, which will likely increase in the remaining 5 regular season games. On this play Auburn comes out in a 3-WR look with Corey Grant lined up in the slot to the wide side of the field. Just before the snap, Grant will motion into the backfield, now lined up as a RB. This shift pulls a DB away from the wi
  4. Tre Mason has become Auburn's featured RB as the season has progressed. Through 7 games, Mason has rushed for 693-yards, garnering 55.1% of the carries among Mason, Grant and Artis Payne. He now has 9 career games with at least 15 carries, averaging 105.7 yards per game on 5.06 yards per rush. On this play Auburn faces a 3rd & 1 from their own 40-yard line. The Tigers will run their zone-read play with Nick Marshall having to read the OLB. At the snap Avery Young drives the DE outside as Chad Slade buries the DT inside. This leaves the OLB having to play the Marshall & Mason option.
  5. It appears LaDarius Owens has finally found a home as a DE this season after being bounced around from the DL to LB. Through 7 games, Owens leads the DL in tackles with 23 and he is 4th on the team with 4.5 tackles for loss. With Coach Rodney Garner rotating 9-12 DL each game, Auburn has built some quality depth this season, which has allowed the Tigers to be fresh & productive during the 4th quarter. On this play Auburn is defending the TAMU offense, which faces a 3rd & 8 from the Auburn 39-yard line. The Tigers show a blitz look with a LB lined up over the A-gap. LaDarius Owens ta
  6. Corey Grant has done a splendid job replacing Onterio McCalebb in the role of Auburn's speed-perimeter RB. Through 7 games Grant has put up a better average per carry than any of the 4 seasons McCalebb compiled from 2009-2012. Grant has also recorded more impact plays through 7 games than McCalebb did through 7 games into any season. Despite having only 38 carries through 7 games, 15 of them have resulted in a first down or TD and 13 have been for at least 10-yards. On this play Auburn faces a 2nd & 10 from their own 35. The Tigers come out with Nick Marshall under center and Auburn in
  7. The zone-read play has become a focal point of the Auburn offense the last 2 conference games and will likely continue to be the case moving forward. Coach Rhett Lashlee stated they have worked relentlessly on the execution of the play because they know Auburn will face different schemes defending the play. With this in mind, Auburn is building other plays from the zone-read look, adding yet another option to the play. On this play Auburn has the ball at their own 38-yard line with a 1st & 10. Before the snap, Marcus Davis will motion left to right to pull an extra defender to his side
  8. WR screens have always been a major component of Gus Malzahn's offense. He depends on the screens to stretch the defense horizontally and to create deep play opportunities, when the opposing secondary cheats up to defend them. The double-screen pass Auburn executed against the Aggies this past Saturday was perhaps one of the most successful screens Auburn has tallied under Gus Malzahn. On this play Auburn has the ball at the TAMU 43-yard line, facing a 2nd & 16. Auburn comes out in a 4-WR set, calling a double-screen play. At the snap Nick Marshall pivots to his right to fake the screen
  9. Jay Prosch registered his first 30-yard plus play as an Auburn Tiger against Texas A&M, which set up an Auburn touchdown. Of Auburn's 13 impact plays (15+) tallied against the Aggies, 8 different Auburn Tigers were involved. Auburn's ability to spread the football around makes the offense far more difficult to defend. On this play Auburn faces a 3rd & 2 from their own 12-yard line. The Tigers come out in a 2-WR set and the QB under center. TAMU reacts with 11 defenders in the box, selling out to stop the run. At the snap Nick Marshall play-actions, which caught the Aggie defense fla
  10. Upon Further Review - Texas A&M 2013 The second quarter continues to be a weak spot for the Auburn offense, when converting third-downs. The Tigers have converted 58.3% in the first, 40.9% in the third and 50.0% in the fourth. Auburn has converted only28.6% during the second period through 7 games. Through 7 games Auburn's opponent has converted only 8 of 43 third-down situations of at least 10-yards. Auburn has allowed 21 plays of 30-yards or more this season, with 17 coming via the passing game. The Auburn offense has generated 23 plays of 30-yards or more with 10 rushing an
  11. Gus Malzahn recorded his first signature game with a road victory over a top-10 ranked team and it was a glorious team effort. Yes, the defense gave up a boatload of yardage and points but that was expected. They did make critical plays during the game and snuffed out the Aggies possible game-winning drive. Both defenses failed to stop the other team's strength on offense. Auburn could not stop the Aggie pass-offense and TAMU could not stop the Auburn run-offense. This difference in the game was how each defense handled the secondary phase of the opposing offense. Auburn held the Aggies to 3.3

  13. * Of the 120 teams at the FBS level, 49.4 percent of the passes attempted during a game occurred when trailing on the scoreboard during 2012. * The Auburn pass-offense finished No. 107 nationally with 71.6 percent of their pass attempts occurring when trailing on the scoreboard, No. 13 in the conference. * The combined win percentage of the nation's top-25 teams that threw the ball the least, when trailing was .802. Six teams from the SEC, finished in the nation's top-25. This included Texas A&M, Alabama, LSU, Georgia, Ole Miss and South Carolina. Those 6 SEC teams combined for a record
  14. Texas A&M has 32 2013 commits, according to Rivals.
  15. One of the primary reasons for Emory Blake's success as a wide receiver at Auburn has been his precision routes he executes game after game. For the last 3 years, Blake has been a consistent performer for the Auburn Tigers with a keen ability to find the soft spots in zone coverage. Against Texas A&M, Blake hauled in 5 receptions against the Aggies for 106-yards and a touchdown. The following play is a great example of his route running ability, which allowed him to separate from double coverage. The play... On this play Auburn faces a 1st & 10 from their own 38-yard line. The Tige
  16. It was the worst first quarter of Auburn football that I have witnessed in the 35-years I have followed Auburn football. It then transformed into the worst first half of Auburn football and eventually the worst defensive performance I have ever seen by an Auburn defense. The only highlight of the evening was watching a true freshman quarterback play his heart out, giving a lifeless Auburn offense a much needed spark. I enjoyed watching Mr. Wallace play so much, I wanted the Aggies to score as quickly as possible just so I could see what Wallace had up his sleeve on the next offensive possessi
  17. With the loss of Philip Lutzenkirchen, Auburn has become more reliant upon CJ Uzomah and Brandon Fulse. At 6-4, 250 CJ Uzomah has become the primary target at the TE position, when it comes to the pass-offense. Auburn quarterbacks have thrown to him 7 times in the last 2 games and Uzomah has caught 5 for 113-yards, including his first touchdown reception as an Auburn Tiger. The TD reception... On this play Auburn has the ball at the TAMU 27-yard line facing a 2nd & 7. Before the snap Onterio McCalebb who is lined up wide right like a receiver will motion back into the backfield on a "s
  18. In what was perhaps one of the worst games in school history, freshman quarterback Jonathan Wallace brought a ray of sunshine during the game as he saw his most significant action this season against Texas A&M. Scot Loeffler was finally allowed to cut the freshman loose and he responded with explosive play. Wallace finished the game with 122-yards passing on just 9 pass attempts for 2 TD's. He added an additional 70-yards rushing on 13 carries playing basically one half of football. The run... We had already seen what Jonathan Wallace brought to the game, operating within the wildcat p
