  1. Depending on pending injuries or weather, I would expect the Auburn offense to play well against Wisconsin. Gus Malzahn has coached in 10 combined Bowl games and Conference Championships at the collegiate level. During those 10 games, his offense averaged 498.6 YPG and 39.9 PPG. His teams went 7-3 during those 10 outings. This includes 6 games at Auburn, where his offense averaged 518.8 YPG and 41.5 PPG. This includes a 5-1 mark at Auburn. Auburn will check in with Nick Marshall at QB, CAP at RB, along with Sammie Coates, Duke Williams and Quan Bray at WR. All five players will likely be pl
  2. Three keys for the Auburn offense vs. Ole Miss will be the ability to run inside the tackles, score touchdowns inside the red zone and to take care of the football. The Rebel defense is built on speed, which should make it challenging to run outside on Ole Miss. LSU found their primary run-success, running between their tackles. Auburn's offensive line will need to play one of their more physical games of the season to establish their running game. When the Tigers transition into the red zone, they must score touchdowns rather than settling for field goals like they did against Mississippi Sta
  3. Auburn's running game was taken to a different level last season, once the decision was made to base the offense around the read-option element. During the final 10-games of the season, Auburn averaged 367-yards rushing per game. The first-half of the Arkansas game this past Saturday, revealed just how important Nick Marshall has become to the run-offense. After being held to 68-yards rushing during the first half without Marshall in the lineup, Auburn rushed for 234-yards against the Razorbacks with Nick Marshall inserted. The play... On this play Auburn has the ball at the Arkansas 19-ya
  4. One of my favorite plays from the Arkansas game was Auburn's delay draw or what I refer to as a slip-draw. Like many plays Gus Malzahn and Rhett Lashlee call, it is designed to freeze the defense, utilizing misdirection. The exchange or hand off takes place on one side of the backfield but the play normally funnels in the opposite direction. The play... On this down, Auburn faces a 2nd & 3 from the Razorback 15-yard line. Auburn will execute their version of the draw play, featuring Cameron Artis-Payne. Note in frame #2, at the time of the exchange, there are 5 defenders on that side o
  5. Forgive me if this has been covered within another thread on the OL. I just think Center is hugely important. I'm happy Reese is coming back next year, but I am wondering about the future. Who will be our Center after Reese is gone? Right now, Tunde is listed as the backup; but he's gone. R-Fr Eric Averett is listed as third. Does anyone know how he's doing and how he's projected to do? Are we trying to address our future center in recruiting this year? Or are we waiting until next year, when we focus more on the OL?
  6. With 1621-yards rushing coming into the BCSNC Game, Tre Mason is obviously a key factor for the Auburn offense. There have been bigger, stronger and faster running backs to play at Auburn but Tre Mason has produced the 2nd best rushing season by an Auburn RB. What makes Mason so special is that he obtains the most of his attributes as a RB. He can run with power, quickness and has enough speed to create separation. Perhaps his best quality as a RB is his field vision and decision making. He is rarely tackled for a loss because he hits the gap as soon as it opens. Like Kenny Irons, he is one of
  7. Auburn's offensive line has not received the attention they deserve through the media but opposing coaches have certainly taken notice. You don't lead the nation in rushing from a BCS conference without having solid OL play. Coach J.B. Grimes has done a stellar job, focusing on the details and mechanics of his pupils. It started in the conditioning program and took shape once actual practice began. Raising the performance level of each individual player set the foundation for a "unit" that has improved as the season progressed. Auburn has been fortunate to avoid any major injuries up front, wh
  8. Cameron Artis-Payne has been a quality No. 2 RB in the Auburn offense this year, making the most of his 90 carries on the season. The junior-college transfer is currently averaging 6.8 yards per rush and 1/3 of his carries have resulted in a first-down or touchdown this season. He has produced 20 rushes of 10-yards or more and 6 for 20-yards or more. On this play Auburn has a 3rd & 3 at the Missouri 36-yard line. Cameron Artis-Payne checks in to spell Tre Mason. Auburn will run their read-option as Missouri counters with a run-blitz. At the snap Nick Marshall reads the DE, who is playin
  9. Last season during 12 games, the Auburn offense produced 64 run-plays of 10-yards or more. This season through 11 games, the Auburn offense has totaled 112 such run-plays. The combination of an improved OL, execution and play-calling has resulted in a massive overhaul to the offense. One area Auburn must exploit against the Alabama defense is running the ball on first-down. The Auburn offense is currently No. 2 nationally averaging 6.87 yards per rush on first-down. The Alabama defense is currently No. 52 nationally, allowing 4.27 yards per rush on first-down. On this play Auburn has a 1st
  10. The obvious key to the success of the Auburn running game is the offensive line, which has been one of the best in the country. The Tigers will play host to the Georgia Bulldogs with the No. 3 rushing attack in the country ignited with the dynamic play of Nick Marshall and his RB's. Through 10 games the Auburn offense has produced the 2nd most 10-yard plus runs in the nation, which all comes back to a very physical OL that has taken pride in pushing the offense down the field. During the last 3 games, Auburn has run the football 82.3% of the time, leaning heavily on the OL. On this play Aub
  11. WR screens have always been a major component of Gus Malzahn's offense. He depends on the screens to stretch the defense horizontally and to create deep play opportunities, when the opposing secondary cheats up to defend them. The double-screen pass Auburn executed against the Aggies this past Saturday was perhaps one of the most successful screens Auburn has tallied under Gus Malzahn. On this play Auburn has the ball at the TAMU 43-yard line, facing a 2nd & 16. Auburn comes out in a 4-WR set, calling a double-screen play. At the snap Nick Marshall pivots to his right to fake the screen
  12. Coming into the NMSU game, Auburn had converted 77 percent of their plays with 2-yards needed to convert. Against the Aggies, Auburn was 7 of 8 (87.5 percent) on their short yardage run plays. After a slow start on offense, Auburn's offensive line dominated the remainder of the game gaining 311-yards rushing on 45 carries. The Tigers finished the game averaging 15.6 yards per rush on their 8 short-yardage situations, led by running back Tre Mason. The play... On this play Auburn faces a 2nd & 4 from the Aggie 6 yard line, coming out in an I-formation set. At the snap, Tre Mason takes t

  14. With the loss of Michael Dyer, Auburn relied on Tre Mason and Kiehl Frazier to do the dirty work between the tackles. Mason and Frazier combined for 119-yards and 3 TD's on 25 carries against the Virginia Cavaliers. Mason had a season high, 64-yards rushing on just 9 carries, which included a 22-yard TD run to give Auburn a 35-17 lead early in the 3rd period. The play... On this play, Trovon Reed will come in motion on the jet-sweep option, which forces the defense to honor the outside run option before committing to the inside give to Mason. Reed's motion to the right of the formation pul
  15. Hoping to build continuity on the offensive line, Auburn has fielded the same 5 starters for 3 consecutive games and the Georgia game will make it 4 games with the combination of A.J. Greene, Chad Slade, Reese Dismukes, John Sullen and Brandon Moseley. The OL played their best game of the season against Ole Miss as the offense rushed for 254-yards and Clint Mosley was sacked 1 time with only 1 hurry. Left guard Slade has struggled the most with his recent move to guard but he played his best game of the season against the Rebels, which hopefully is a good sign the redshirt freshman is gaining
