Ryan Wood ‏@AUBlog

#Auburn defensive coordinator Brian VanGorder said first fall scrimmage was "sloppy," but "much needed."

Joel A. Erickson ‏@wareagleextra

Brian VanGorder: "It was sloppy, but much-needed. Live reps are of great value to us. We've got a lot of guys in the developmental phase."

Jason Caldwell ‏@ITATJason

Brian VanGorder said the first scrimmage was sloppy, but much needed. He said the live reps are good for the defense as are bad experiences

Jason Caldwell ‏@ITATJason

VanGorder said the one defense played pretty good, but then they allowed some explosive plays.

Joel A. Erickson ‏@wareagleextra

VanGorder: "For a majority of it, our No. 1's played pretty good, but we gave up a number of explosive plays." #Auburn

Ryan Wood ‏@AUBlog

VanGorder: "Live reps are good. And bad experiences are good right now." Said D would be mostly good, give up explosive play. Inconsistent.

Joel A. Erickson ‏@wareagleextra

VanGorder: "We've got to tackle better, but I kind of expected that today." #Auburn

Jason Caldwell ‏@ITATJason

VanGorder said there were a lot of things they did well. He said for the majority of the day the one defense played well.

Ryan Wood ‏@AUBlog

VanGorder said the first team was good for the most part. As for linebackers, he said there is "a lot of learning" needed.

Jason Caldwell ‏@ITATJason

VanGorder said there needs to be a lot of learning from the linebackers. The secondary was inconsistent and some "shoddy" tackling

Ryan Wood ‏@AUBlog

In defensive backfield, there was "shoddy tackling" that led to big plays.

Joel A. Erickson ‏@wareagleextra

VanGorder on secondary: "Inconsistent. Couple of major busts in coverage, couple of missed tackles." #Auburn

Joel A. Erickson ‏@wareagleextra

VanGorder: "Our interest right now is in misfit and coverage breakdowns." #Auburn

7:12 p.m.

Jason Caldwell ‏@ITATJason

VanGorder said it was a normal first scrimmage. He said overall it was a sloppy scrimmage. The interest right now is getting issues solved

Jason Caldwell ‏@ITATJason

VanGorder said the rushing stats are distorted because of an explosive run (Onterio McCalebb). He said they have to get more consistent

Joel A. Erickson ‏@wareagleextra

VanGorder says there were a couple of explosive runs, says because of those "You have to give them a bad grade today."

Ryan Wood ‏@AUBlog

Asked if any players stood out specifically, VanGorder said it's hard to say until he watches the film.

Ryan Wood ‏@AUBlog

To wrap up VanGorder's short time with the media, his message was consistent: For #Auburn's defense, there was a lot of inconsistency.

http://auburn.247sports.com/Board/42/VanGorder-called-1st-Auburn-scrimmage-sloppy-11322324  FREE

Justin Hokanson ‏@JHokanson

Brian VanGorder's theme of scrimmage on D: "inconsistent". Said run D wasn't bad, but some explosive plays skewed the numbers.

7:15 p.m.

Joel A. Erickson ‏@wareagleextra

Scot Loeffler: "We need to continue with our physical mentality and be able to run effectively." #Auburn

Ryan Wood ‏@AUBlog

#Auburn O Scot Loeffler on first scrimmage: "There were some good things that we did execution-wise, and some things we need to work on."

Joel A. Erickson ‏@wareagleextra

Loeffler also harping on consistency. So that makes two coordinators with the same message.

Ryan Wood ‏@AUBlog

Loeffler on offensive line: "They're doing a good job. They're young. They're learning. ... They need to continue to progress."

Joel A. Erickson ‏@wareagleextra

Loeffler on QBs: "A lot of things that young guys do. There were some mistakes we made."

Ryan Wood ‏@AUBlog

From the QBs, Loeffler said he saw "a lot of things that young guys do."

7:16 p.m.

Ryan Wood ‏@AUBlog

Loeffler said there were some "bright spots" from receivers, but they were inconsistent.

Joel A. Erickson ‏@wareagleextra

Loeffler on Wallace: "I thought he managed the huddle. But similar to the other freshmen, he has to be more consistent."

Ryan Wood ‏@AUBlog

Loeffler said Wallace "managed the huddle well" in first college scrimmage. But, similar to other freshmen, he's still learning.

Joel A. Erickson ‏@wareagleextra

Loeffler on Frazier: "Inconsistent across the board." #Auburn

7:20 p.m.

Ryan Wood ‏@AUBlog

Loeffler said Kiehl Frazier was inconsistent. So, there's a trend here. After BVG said D was inconsistent, Loeffler said O was too.

Joel A. Erickson ‏@wareagleextra

Gene Chizik: "I thought the effort was good today. ... I feel like there's some baby steps made tonight. Overall, it's about what we thought

Ryan Wood ‏@AUBlog

Gene Chizik said players had good effort today: "There were some baby steps made tonight." Overall, big picture was what they expected.

Joel A. Erickson ‏@wareagleextra

Chizik: "The effort is where we need to be. The execution is not."

http://auburn.247sports.com/Board/42/OC-Scot-Loeffler-describes-offense-as-inconsistent-11322556

Ryan Wood ‏@AUBlog

Chizik: "Overall, the message will be inconsistency. And that's everywhere." So, what we've established: #Auburn was not consistent

Ryan Wood ‏@AUBlog

Chizik said tonight was "big moment" for freshmen playing in Jordan-Hare for first time: It was very apparent it was a big moment, he said.

Joel A. Erickson ‏@wareagleextra

Chizik: "I thought the special teams were not bad. We've got so many guys who've played in our special teams for a while."

Ryan Wood ‏@AUBlog

Chizik said the special teams were "not bad."

7:23 p.m.

Joel A. Erickson ‏@wareagleextra

Chizik on QB's: "Very inconsistent. We're expecting it to be much cleaner on Saturday."

Ryan Wood ‏@AUBlog

Chizik: "I think the biggest word for every quarterback was 'very inconsistent.'" That's two words, but one message.

Joel A. Erickson ‏@wareagleextra

Chizik: "With the quarterback, you're looking for a guy who takes command of the huddle, never gets rattled." #Auburn

Ryan Wood ‏@AUBlog

Chizik calls the QB battle "a great competition" right now.

Joel A. Erickson ‏@wareagleextra

Chizik on RBs: "Onterio, I think we all know how productive he is when he touches the ball. The young guys, we're still evaluating."

Jason Caldwell ‏@ITATJason

Gene Chizik said the scrimmage was about what they expected.

Ryan Wood ‏@AUBlog

Chizik said coaching staff has "meshed well together," and it's made everything a smooth transition.

Joel A. Erickson ‏@wareagleextra

Chizik said #Auburn ran "65-ish" scrimmage plays.

Ryan Wood ‏@AUBlog

Chizik said the team went about 65 scrimmage plays today, live and full tackle.

7:25 p.m.

Bryan Matthews ‏@BMatt247

HC Gene Chizik praised RB Onterio McCalebb in scrimmage (Free/Mobile) http://auburn.247sports.com/Board/42/HC-Gene-Chizik-praised-RB-Onterio-McCalebb-in-scrimmage-11322704 via

SOME REALLY GOOD SCOOP....  Plucked by Ellitor for us

* The defense got three-and-outs on the first two 1 vs. 1 possessions.

* Onterio McCalebb ran 65 yards for a touchdown on a speed sweep on the third 1 vs. 1 possession.

* Kiehl Frazier had a solid day but missed some open receivers. Looked frustrated with himself at times.

* Freshman quarterback Jonathan Wallace hit Jaylon Denson for 35 yards to set up a field goal.

* Wallace got lots of reps.

* Clint Moseley got reps but threw just once, on a screen pass, in the first half.

* Middle linebacker Jake Holland had a very good day. He had two tackles and broke up a pass on the second series.

* Running back Mike Blakely looked strong running the ball.

* In 1's vs. 1's, the defense forced a punt to start second half

* Linebacker Kris Frost had a huge hit on running back Jovon Robinson.

* Frazier hit wide receiver Sammie Coates for 30 yards on a terrific route and terrific throw early in the second half.

* Wallace hit Denson again in the second half for some 30 yards

7:33 p.m.

Justin Hokanson ‏@JHokanson

Breaking down what I learned from OC Scot Loeffler: Good things, bad things, young guys made young mistakes.

Justin Hokanson ‏@JHokanson

The starting OL in today's scrimmage, per players, was LT Greg Robinson, LG Jordan Diamond, C Reese Dismukes, RG Alex Kozan, RT Chad Slade.

Joel A. Erickson ‏@wareagleextra

Clint Moseley had a bit of a limp as he left the room... #Auburn

7:35 p.m.

Joel A. Erickson ‏@wareagleextra

Jovon Robinson runs with "some power" according to Greg Robinson

Joel A. Erickson ‏@wareagleextra

Robinson also said Onterio McCalebb, Sammie Coates, Jovon Robinson and Mike Blakely made plays today. #Auburn

7:38 p.m.

Ryan Wood ‏@AUBlog

Sounds like the D-line did a good with pass rush. Gabe Wright said coaches blew whistles for sacks, and there were 8 or 9 "whistle sacks."

Ryan Wood ‏@AUBlog

Wright said Sammie Coates stood out on the other side of the ball, but he also dropped a couple passes.

Joel A. Erickson ‏@wareagleextra

Kiehl Frazier was not available for interviews following Wednesday night's scrimmage.

Ryan Wood ‏@AUBlog

Jake Holland said he had his best night of the fall. He also said LBs hadn't been good until tonight, so it may be a springboard for them.

Justin Hokanson ‏@JHokanson

Regarding that OL first five, that was two true freshman, a redshirt freshman, and two sophomores. #youngasallgetout

7:41 p.m.

Ryan Wood ‏@AUBlog

Greg Robinson ran with 1st team at LT. He said Alex Kozan (LG), Reese Dismukes ©, Jordan Diamond (RG) and Chad Slade was with his group.

Ryan Wood ‏@AUBlog

Oh, no... NEVER... RT @cgull34 @AUBlog does Chiz get BVG and Loeffler together after each practice and tell them what to say to the media?

This may have been answered, or it may be viewed as a dumb question. but I was thinking about the media being at a small portion of practice. Are the coaches only doing certian drills that they want to show to the media to sort of put on a front to the media to keep our cards closer to the chest or are they even worried about it? Is there any way of knowing if they are? afterall i am just a lowly tiger cub...

The practices are closed for several reasons. You are correct in that they don't want info getting out before they are ready. Having media present means cameras, which means there is the potential for opposing teams to be tipped off to the gameplan. Mostly it allows the coaches to control the release of info regarding gameplans, injuries and keeps everyone from seeing what tricks they may have up their sleeve.

What time is the scrimmage today?

Don't know if it's true, but I read on another site (gump infested) it has already happened. KF lit it up apparently. (if the info there is correct)

Post a link or it didn't happen....Not to say that your info is not correct, but the rest of the world would like to know where your info is coming from and if it is accurate. I, for one, am waiting on 247 and ET to update with info.

Ok I will bite, sounds like defense doing good.

I don't really think so, I mean its practice but

VanGorder says there were a couple of explosive runs, says because of those "You have to give them a bad grade today."

VanGorder on secondary: "Inconsistent. Couple of major busts in coverage, couple of missed tackles."

Not the greatest news for me.

^^^What he said. Frazier missing a couple of throws can be corrected. Looking frustrated with himself is normal too. I would be more worried if Frazier was not upset with himself for missing said passes. That, if anything, shows that he knows he can do better.
