Speaking of such, I just saw that Fairhope brewing is releasing their 5th anniversary beer. A rye whiskey barrel aged golden barleywine. Sounds intriguing.

It would seem that Fairhope has some plans for their 5th episode.

@AUDub questions, comments?

He's wrong and I hate him!

Truth be told, the cinnamon didn't overwhelm me this year like it has some others here that have tried it. It may indeed be stronger this year, but I didn't notice.

Holy mackerel!  I’d put this up against BCBS or KBS any day of the week.

Ah yes. My rave reviews of this stuff would make you think Oskar Blues was paying me.

And Weller 12 is so not worth the hype imo. 107 Antique absolutely slays 12 year.

Disagree. Never been impressed with the Antique.

Pick this bottle up if you see it. ~$50. Tried it against Rock Hill, Weller 12, and Saz 18. Better than all.

Will look for it. Enjoyed their flagship bourbon... Old Scout maybe?

15 indoor taps, with year-round standards, a few new trials (including a gingerbread stout that I didn't get to but overheard some crowd acclaim for), and their their two barrel-aged anniversary issues. Both the anniversary brews were a bit on the sour side for me (is that normal for barley?) but, of the two, I found the rye barrel far superior to the bourbon one.

20 more brews tapped outdoors on a rotating basis through the day, many of which I couldn't get to, and many with overly cutesy StarWars names (I mean Jabba the Hop?, JediPA?). Didn't have my go-to Kingslayer (Imperial Stout) in a keg, but 'sOK; they bottled it (pint-and-a-half? does that size have a name?) and I've already availed myself of it several times this year.

Best find this trip was Queenslayer, barrel aged vanilla stout. I've always been afraid of such but, surprising to me, not in the least sweet; I do worry, however, that the added richness (?) may clash with my wintertime Scotch on the side.

No porn available. Crowd overflowed a bit into the (rope-bordered) surrounding neighborhood and they had to disassemble their crowler-sealer to get away with (permit?) the festivities. I'll see what they still have around next trip.

Actually, pretty good music. Favorite was Steel City JugSlammers out of B'ham.

I don't associate sourness with barleywines- they're usually all booze, sugar and hops jacked up to 11- but the world "golden" might be important here.

Beer names in general are epidemically awful IMO.

Sounds like a fantastic outing!

Sounds like a great time! Like McLoofus said, most barley wines I’ve had areas he described. Big and boozy.

I really need to check them out next we are down that way.

Got to try, once again, Codigo Origen extra anejo tequila. Aged for 6 years? $250 tequila and phenomenal. All of Codigo’s stuff is excellent, even the silver(~$50).

The rep was a Homewood HS and bama grad. His best friend is Cole Cubelic. Pretty cool guy despite his poor choice in schooling.

$250 for tequila... maybe one day. I do love a good anejo though.

I would never spend that much on a tequila. But I don’t mind when they bring it in for us to taste.

I wouldn’t spend that much on really anything. Bourbon and a bomb Cabernet Sauvignon would be two I’d think on.
