No, I'm pretty sure the empty seats in the 2nd half were proof that those Auburn fans didn't want to witness a team that quit on their coach and was about to give up a record number of yards and points in an embarrassing loss.

And that's my point.

You think it was bad the other night, just wait until we hire a lesser coach who "has the same unmatched morals as we fans do".

The progam is currently at a major crossroads and another failure hire will kill us for years to come. We need a sure thing and Petrino is the only one out there.

There are no sure thing hires.

I haven't read all 54 pages of comments but I am on board with BP. He is a know commodity with an excellent W-L record. Even though he has screwed up royally in the past, I think we all learn from our mistakes and hopefully he has. His wife hasn't bailed on him yet so hopefully she sees something those who are againist him haven't.

Ahhh. Then by your logic we should go after Tuberville, Fulmer, Shula, Terry Bowden, etc....Some of those at least won an SECC, and one of them won a NC. Sounds like they are sure fire hires.

Maybe we should just create a thread for the people that completely disagree that BP is worth a look. Then yall could piss and moan about it to yourselves. :nopityA:

"Wow, you apparently have no reading comprehension or just throw out stuff without looking at facts. No one has a winning record against Saban since he's been at Alabama. He has a winning or even record against the other 2 though, much better than other coaches"

Well the only coach out of that group that is being discussed as Auburn's next coach is Bobby Petrino, and it should be a concern. I would view the teams that have beat Saban over that time and ask myself.."what brand of football did they play" how did they get it done, can the "BP" brand of football dethrone his main competitor in the SEC west....even though AU is a known commodity, you still have to show efforts in recruiting...you just can't mail it in...I don't factually know what BP recruiting efforts are like, but I have never heard him mentioned with the elite recruiters out there. BP has question marks, he is not the slam dunk many of you make him out to be....

As for other coaches, realistically i like Whittingham at Utah, Gus Malzahn, Jones at Cincy, Mario Cristobal, Al Golden, ..unrealistically I like Stoops, Jeff Fisher, Herm Edwards, Spurrier, Schiano,

zzz

Evrything about Petrinos record as a football coach indicates he is a "slam dunk". Questions about BPs coaching ability are absolutely without merit. You even admit that some of your concerns arent based on facts.

What have you seen from Herm Edwards that leads you to believe he is anything but what his record indicates which is pretty average.

All the majority of BP bashers see is a chic on a motorcycle, they cant see past that.

I didn't say it was impossible, just that in general what I said is true.

And if we were hiring into an environment where Fulmer was at the end of his run and the other competitors were Jim Donnan, Mike Dubose, Houston Nutt and Lou Holtz (with the lone exception being Spurrier at Florida), I'd be more willing to take chances. Because that was the murderer's row that Saban got hired at LSU to compete with.

Look, it's very simple. We either get Petrino, or it's going to be another underwhelming hire who we hope pans out. Please stop bringing up NFL coaches, especially Jon Gruden and Bill Cowher. They have no college head coaching experience whatsoever. It's common knowledge that it is very different coaching in the NFL than in college. Gruden and Cowher would have no clue how to operate a college program because they have no past experience. Again, the only person who meets all of the coaching criteria is Bobby Petrino, everyone else is a " I hope they pan out" hire...

I keep saying the PTB need to find out (and maybe they have /are) if Greg Schiano has any interest into returning to college football!. Perfect choice IMO!

Again, no NFL coach is coming to Auburn. By the way, Greg Schiano is in his first year there, and is 3-4, and 2nd in the NFC South. He is rebuilding that program right now, so let go of that dream as well....

Don't be so sure. Surely there is another unethical lowlife that failed miserably in the NFL and lied to his team ready to bail for the SEC....like Saban and Petrino.

I disagree, I see the way BP left his last (THREE) jobs and I cant see past that.

If all he had done was ride a blonde chick on his Harley, he'd still be at Arky.

BUT...

- He had an affair outside of marriage (I got no problem, that's his own personal buisness)

- He used his position of power to hire his mistress to work in his department

- He had constant phone contact with her, even texting her just minutes before the Arky/Bama game (you think he was focused on his job before that huge game?)

- He had unlimited access to his mistress during office hours (how convenient, easy way to hide from Mrs. Petrino and the kiddies)

- He obvioulsy had access to his mistress during non-work hours (joy ride on Harley in broad daylight for anyone to see)

- He lied to law enforcement about his companion on his bike in the wake of his accident

- He lied and witheld information about his accident from his boss which lead to a major PR nightmare for his employer (the University)

- He lied about his affair with his co-worker, and his boss unknowingly repeats the lie publically = boss with egg on face (that's a no no in any buisness)

- He lied and witheld information from his boss about giving his mistress $20,000 gift

He didn't lose his job because he had a blonde chick glued to his backside on a freakin crotch rocket.

I understand he is in NFL currently, but maybe he misses the recruiting part, or head of the program part, or teaching kids part. Just because he is in nFL and 3-4 in division does not mean he loves it there!

By the way, he won't be better than 8-8 ever with Josh Freeman as QB!

Schiano is a yankee, right? I'm not sure he could handle the culture down here. And, I got a feeling he may want to give his new NFL gig a try before he decides to go back to college coaching.

Poet, you keep harping on Petrino's defense. His D improved every year while at Arkansas. Have you looked at his team's statistics? What did Les Miles' stats look like at Oklahoma St? That would be a good comparison.

If you don't want Petrino because he hired his mistress, then I can understand that argument. It is a conflict of interest that exposed his employer. I get that. The other reasons are really grasping at straws because all coaches listen to other offers, jump at an offer for a promotion and will move the family in a NY minute. Wiki any coach and you will see a trail of leaving one job on a whim for another until they climb the ladder. It is part of the profession.

And u are grasping at straws to validate why you want him hired...you can cherry pick stats but any football person would know BP teams are not know for defense and power football, he is known for a a strong passing offense, multiple WR sets, and points. If you think he is going to come to AU with the same formula, and win championships then you are mistaken. If I was interviewing him I would want to know how does he plan on building a consistent legit SEC defense and what efforts will he put into recruiting the best players to Auburn. Sorry if you find those as unfounded concerns. I just don't believe he addresses the defense like he does offense, nor does he invest a lot into defensive recruiting. If I was hiring him I would address these questions and would like to hear his plan for development and improvement. You have no concerns about him, which is cool...i still do until he proves otherwise whether he gets that shot at Auburn remains to be seen. I have no issues with coaches looking to better there careers, but clandestine meetings in the night, quitting on your team without being man enough to do it in person, and undermining the university hiring process concerns me and several others. Like I said it may not bother you which is cool, but I am not going to look the other way just because he averaged 10 wins at Arky. We can agree to disagree.

How did we win our championship, the only championship in my lifetime (probably the majority of the board's lifetimes)? Was it with defense? NO. He is an offensive minded coach. If you don't prefer an offensive minded coach, then state that you would prefer a defensive coach. Then we can agree to disagree.

I stated that the "conflict of interest" issue is legitimate. If that prevents him from being hired, then fine. I can admit that he made a terrible decision, a shortsighted decision, a decision that may cost him more than already has. However, I have yet to hear a realistic candidate's name with credentials in the same ballpark with Petrino. He is far and away the most qualified candidate, outside of his stupid hire at Arkansas. You cannot admit this or are not willing to admit this.

50/50 run/pass mix, 75% career win pct, 2 conf champs at louisville, 2 bcs bowls, arky record improved every year. If you can show me another potential candidate in this realm, then I will not mention BP again.

The year AU won the title the defense was not great against pass - but was lights out against the run yielding only 2 100 yard rushers that year, not a great statistical defense but a great defense situationally and against the run. In the SEC if you can't run it when you need to or stop the run when u have to, you will not win championships plain and simple. BP's teams did not do that and if they did he might be holding a title now. Can he modify and do it if chosen at Auburn, personally i think he could, but i sure as hell would want to know before I hired him....I am not trying to convince you to not me mention BP name, merely pointing out concerns I have about him as a coach and an individual....

The indiscretion does not bother me, but the lies when confronted with adversity do. He had an opportunity to tell the truth, but lied, lied, and lied again.....but you are talking about giving BP the keys to your program, a guy coming off one the most embarrassing events in coaching history, and give him those keys as if none of the other stuff happened besides 11-2, and 10-3. Don't blast people for viewing it as a concern, everyone can't sweep lies away so easily and would prefer the school go in another direction, does not make them stupid, content with 8-5, morally superior, fake Christian, etc....

well then the BP haters need to stick with that because questioning whether he can coach and compete at Auburn makes them all look like morons. I myself don't condone what the man did, but sometimes it takes an event like that in someone's life to make them realize what it's all about.
