The ladies of Auburn Gymnastics are really making improvements this season. AU set a school record in a upset of No.6 LSU and followed it up with an impressive win over No. 25 Maryland. Auburn is currently ranked No. 11. Even with a recent loss to No. 5 Alabama, Auburn's Bri Guy took home the all-around win, which is no easy task. It's great to see an AU sport really putting together some good quality wins. War Eagle!

I am really excited for the direction AU Gymnastics is heading in. We haven't been this good in a long time, and a lot of it is coming from freshmen and sophomores. Caitlin Atkinson was a huge recruit for us, and she and Bri Guy are taking this program to new heights. Hopefully we can make some noise this year in the SEC Championships and make it past an NCAA regional so we can keep hauling in awesome recruits!

Only four schools have ever won a national title in Gymnastics, so it is a really hard battle to get the gymnasts we need to compete against the likes of Bama, Florida, and Georgia.

Atkinson Named First Team All-American at NCAA Championship

LOS ANGELES – Auburn freshman gymnast Caitlin Atkinson was named a first team All-American for her performance on vault at the 2013 NCAA Gymnastics Championships hosted by UCLA on Friday in Pauley Pavilion.

Atkinson scored 9.9 on vault to finish tied for third overall to earn All-America status. She’s the first All-American for Auburn since Julie Dwyer (vault) in 2008.

“Caitlin was having a phenomenal night. It’s just unfortunate that she was injured,” Auburn gymnastics head coach Jeff Graba said. “We didn’t want to let her continue out of precaution. She was on pace for a huge night. It’s just so unfortunate. Despite that, we are so proud of her for first All-America team and the first one for Auburn in a few years. She really deserves it.”

Despite qualifying for Sunday’s event final on vault, the Houston, Texas native is not expected to compete due to an injury suffered on uneven bars. She added a score of 9.850 in floor exercise before being injured on uneven bars and not competing on balance beam due to the injury.

Auburn sophomore Bri Guy enjoyed a successful night and finished 10th overall in the all-around with a total score of 39.200.

“Bri did what she does every night,” Graba said. “She hit all four routines tonight and did a really great job. It’s tough to come here as an individual. She was able to block the difficulties out and perform really well. I’m very, very proud of her.”

Guy’s top event score came on uneven bars where she scored 9.825 to tie for 25th overall. She added a 9.8 on both floor and vault and a 9.775 on beam.
