Selena Roberts, A Failing Journalist EDIT

SR's SI career 2008- 2011

SR's NYT career 1996- 2007

Might Selena Roberts have been forced to leave Sports Illustrated ? The likelihood is great.

2009 SR wrote 70 SI articles

2010 SR wrote 30 SI articles

2011 SR wrote 10 SI articles.......that's all ? I would leave too if my employer didn't give me work. Or does SI pay writers to do nothing ? Selena Roberts' list of SI articles: http://sportsillustr...oberts&x=23&y=7 See for yourself her declining number of SI articles, hence, her career. And remember, this follows her assault on A-Rod where apparently her own employer, the NYT, undercut her on the "tipping batters" story. http://gawker.com/52...-the-correction

To me, SR was apparently not being given work and as a result she was forced to leave SI for the need of employment and she chose to be self employed, only the market hasn't been buying her garbage. Her new employment doesn't seem to be paying too well, until yesterday when she hit paydirt. She stated that she "left" SI and that she decided it was time to "do something different and shake it up a little bit" http://www.thebiglea...ts-illustrated/, and she has exactly done that in the past 24 hours. ( I never heard of Roopstigo until today. Have you ? ) Apparently Roopstigo did very little shaking over the past year since its inception, so to gain attention we suddenly hear the name of Selena Roberts splashed everywhere because of her article based on the assertions by an accused felon who soon shall be facing trial. What questionable motives might abound in such comradery between a disgruntled journalist and a man who just lost his lawyer and is facing 25 years of imprisonment ? Both, it seems, have a desperate need to fill by hurling false accusations toward Auburn University Athletics. SR's hit piece yesterday apparently has garnered the attention that her new failing journalistic attempt needed.

Interesting to note that her new venture into journalism with Roopstigo has a prior attempt at defaming Auburn University. The author of the article "How Auburn Lost It's Way", Ray Glier, wrote a piece that lures the reader in with sympathy to those AU players murdered in June, 2012 only to segue into an attack on AU's program. http://reader.roopst...84/#/chapter/1/

Also, Selena Roberts wrote an article highly critical of Chette Williams in 2005. http://fromthebleach...-to-editor.html .

Even more puzzling is how an Auburn graduate wrote more SI articles that were sympathetic with Mark Ingram and his father and never one positive article regarding her alma mater, even after Auburn Magazine graced its cover in 2009 with her picture. What's up with that ? (makes me think that Gay Talese must have been her mentor at the NYT):

http://sportsillustr...63287/index.htm

http://sportsillustr...65132/index.htm

SR seems to have a beef with Auburn and her career needed a jump start after falling into ignominy with her flailing career at both SI and the NYT. Don't all criminals go to familiar surroundings when seeking shelter ?

Lest we forget, prior to SR's stint at SI we know that she falsely attacked another collegiate institution, ergo Duke lacrosse players, http://www.scoresrep...-duke-lacrosse/ , so why not go for broke and attack a school that is still licking its wounds from being falsely accused, Selena Roberts alma mater, especially in a state where the opposition would GLADLY assist her in spreading her "truth", or is that website hits ? As pointed out in the WarEagleReader today, "where there's smoke, there's smoke" and SR has the whole Auburn family choking on this big fable. http://www.thewareag...n/#.UV2eoaJwquJ Be SURE of this, SR is a REC godsend. By the way, I wonder how much the REC pays disgruntled AU alums to write defamatory articles about their alma mater ?

Last of all,

WDE !!!

SR will NOT release the recordings of her interviews, even if requested by the NCAA

I took a look at her Wikipedia page last night and noticed was very clean and complimentary, devoid of any mention of the Duke case. Thankfully it looks like someone (probably an AU supporter) took the initiative to make her page a bit more accurate by mentioning the Duke controversy.

I noticed her page has been locked due to vandalism too. lol

And now we have an answer...

"For now, though, the company is mostly burning through the half-million dollars in seed money Roberts has put in herself, plus roughly the same amount from friends and family."

Good catch on that article. Certainly proves the point that SR is in desperate financial circumstances.

According to the article, "To succeed, he says (Russo), Roopstigo will eventually need millions of readers." Roopstigo's Twitter page has 589 followers and SR has 1,484 followers. Not too many.

What's worse is that Google Play says that the Roopstigo app has been downloaded 100+ times. Just a tad shy of 1,000,000 readers, unless iTunes has the other 999,900 downloads. ;D Ooooops, my bad. Russo said they needed MILLIONS of readers. Maybe Dr. Evil can spare a few miiiilllion.

I loaded up all of the tweeted quotes with links to the page of all the players that negated her statements in that story. Plus I added a bunch of articles about her irresponsible reporting of A-rod, Duke, and past Auburn stuff. I nailed her on all of it in the response section to that crappy article of hers. Those responses have been taken down and I can no longer comment on the ROopstigo page (surprised that I can still look at it). Its funny too because if she was really THat good of a reporter or THAT confident of her work, she would have just refuted my claims in an open forum. All that tells me is that she is a cowardly liar that is just sensationalizing a situation in order to make a dime - just like a lousy journalist would. I said it in another post - if anyone still has access to her roopstigo facebook page; TAKE A STAND for our Auburn univeristy!! Link the quotes, articles and any other factual information that proves her to be the liar that she is. Discredit her in an open forum. Don't just whine about it on here - TAKE ACTION. Furthermore you can report Roopstigo as a harmful webpage. Besides being good to defend our love and the integrity of our school - its fun to make idiots like her squirm under the facts :)!

ESPN piling on AU...one of the talking head declared that SR is a very reputable journalist. The guy obviously has no clue about her past.

Noticed this on her site:

Ms. Roberts needs help because her business is drowning and nearing collapse. She needs attention in order to continue her career, and she's willing to use others as a way of getting there...even her own alma mater in hopes of drawing in rival fanbases and media hacks like BSPN. Enjoy the "scarlet letter" Ms. Roberts.

Bob Ryan

I dropped Bob a note and sent a link to the Fan790 interview in case he would like to hear his "reputable journalist" defend her work.

Selena and Bob Ryan have both made regular appearances on an ESPN program called "The Sports Reporters", so there is your connection.

Basically nothing which is what I told him. He is just toting water for ESPN which is what he get's paid to do. Like a lawyer swearing his client is innocent....says what he is supposed to say.

Did he really say that? Bob Ryan is a grumpy old man. I remember a few years back he said the National Guard should come out and stop Florida from appearing in the national championship so that Ohio State and Michigan (I think) could play again. Florida beat the hell out of Ohio State.

i don't think her article is true, but why would an auburn alum even write the article. i would not save my career by bringing down auburn

You're not $500k in debt and haven't drug your friends and family into another $500k in debt.

Looking at her and her work. It sort of disproves the saying, "Ugly is as ugly does." Her blog is in trouble financially and she needs AU to send her some money.
