Good class for AU soccer

AUBURN, Ala. – With National Signing Day complete and the spring schedule set to kick off this weekend, Auburn’s newest signing class was recognized as the 13th-best class in the country by TopDrawerSoccer.com.

“We are very excited about our 2014 class being ranked so high by Top Drawer Soccer,” Auburn head coachKaren Hoppa said. “We are thrilled about this group and think that they will have a huge impact on the future success of our program.”

Along with the Tigers, five other SEC schools made the top-20 rankings by the popular soccer website. LSU was the highest ranked SEC school at No. 7, followed by Texas A&M (8), Georgia (10), Tennessee (11), Auburn (13), South Carolina (15). Stanford came in with the top-ranked class in the nation.

Signing with Auburn: are goalkeeper Sarah Le Beau (Crystal Lake, Ill. / ); defenders Nicole Niro (Barrington, Ill. / Barrington High School); midfielders Katie Grunder (Bellbrook, Ohio / Archbishop Alter High School) andCourtney Schell (St. Augustine, Fla. / Bartram Trail High School); and forwards Hannah Alspach (Denton, Texas / Denton Guyer High School), Kristen Dodson (Aurora, Ill. / Waubonsie Valley High School), Kellsie Gleason (Adelanto, Calif. / Serrano High School), Sydney Lurie (Johns Creek, Ga. / Johns Creek High School), and Maddie Coats (Orlando, Fla. / Lake Highland Preparatory School).

The Tigers will play their first spring game this Saturday at 4 p.m. as they host the Jacksonville State Gamecocks at the Auburn Soccer Complex.

Excellent. I remember David Crook and I talking with Pat Dye (in '81 or whenever he was made AD) about making the leap to NCAA with our mens and/or womens soccer clubs at AU. Pat had a handle on Title IX and a pretty astute grip on soccer for a Jawja country boy.
