WarDamnEagleWDE 12,737
Looks official By Charles Goldberg AuburnTigers.com AUBURN, Ala. — Auburn hired Bruce Pearl as its new basketball coach Tuesday, bringing in a frequent visitor to the NCAA Tournament, a coach with SEC experience, a three-time national coach of the year and fan favorite. Pearl coached at Tennessee from 2005 through the 2011 season, taking all six of his teams to the NCAA Tournament. He's been an ESPN basketball analyst the last several seasons, "I'm humbled and blessed to be back in the game that I love," Pearl said. "I don't know how long it will take, but it's time to rebuild the Auburn basketball program, and bring it to a level of excellence so many of the other teams on campus enjoy." Pearl was the second fastest to 300 career wins in NCAA history, trailing only North Carolina's Roy Williams. Pearl is a two-time SEC coach of the yeaer. Auburn Athletics Director Jay Jacobs welcomed his new coach. "From the moment I met Coach Pearl and heard his vision for our basketball program, it was clear he’s the right man at the right time for Auburn," Jacobs said. "Coach Pearl is a proven winner who will bring energy and excitement to our program. We have raised the bar for Auburn basketball, and I could not be more excited for our student-athletes and our future under Coach Pearl’s leadership. I know he agrees with me — it’s time to win." Pearl won a Division II national championship at Southern Indiana during the 1994-95 season. He went 231–46 in nine seasons there from 1992-2001. He spent the next four years at University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee where he went 86-36 that included two trips to the NCAA Tournament, including a trip to the Sweet 16. Looks like the NCAA gave its stamp of approval. Told you to be positive. :-)

Gibson SG 88
Auburn now has one of the top 10 coaches in America. That's right, I said top 10. They also have 1 of the top 3 coaches in the conference. I don't know what has gotten in to JJ, but he has made 4 grandslam hires in the last 18 months. War Pearl Eagle!!!! RunInRed 16,360
Check out this quote from last August ... he's basically describing Auburn. So what is Pearl looking for in a next job?I asked him. He answered this way. "It's going to need to be somebody that has the vision that Tennessee had," Pearl said. "Tennessee had a vision to try to get its men's basketball program to the level of its football program and where Pat Summitt had the women's basketball program. That was Tennessee's vision. They said, 'We're winning in everything else. We want to do it in men's basketball, too.' So that would be the job I'd want -- a job where somebody has that vision. It would almost need to be a school that's won a national championship in football or baseball. Somebody who's done it and wants to try to do it again in men's basketball. And I'm not saying I can win a national championship. I'm not saying that. I'm just saying it would need to be somebody who wants to try to do those things. Let's upgrade the facilities and schedule [national opponents] and engage the fans and be relevant. Just be relevant. That's what we did at Tennessee. I wanted Tennessee to matter to Kentucky fans. I wanted Tennessee to be a game Kentucky fans circled. We did that. And that's the kind of thing I would like to try to do again." http://www.cbssports...pearl-next-year

telling tiger 156
No question Red, like many, my family had our doubts. This is strong. This is also 4 extraordinarily strong and top level hires in a row. Fine day. WDE!
cptau 169
Just to be consistent. I'm not proud of this hire. First time I can recall AU hiring any coach with the "baggage" that BP brings. We are still better off with Pearl's baggage than what Louisville has with their 2 main head coaches. UL kept a head coach that takes his dates to a backroom in a restaurant and then hires a head coach who hired his mistress.............
