FWIW - the NFL was aware of, and rightly concerned, with the injury Tre' Williams was struggling with his senior season. No team wants to waste a draft pick on a player they were pretty certain was going to sit out the whole season (if he ever played again). This turned out the best for Tre' and he looks to be back to 100% now and has already been picked up by the Lions. I know more about his circumstances than many since he had to miss my wedding because of the timing of the surgery and recovery. 😛 He went through a lot and I am super happy for him to be given a chance now to show what he can do. :)

That's great news for Tre'. I always liked him, he played with a lot of heart.

This is better. Might be harder on the coaches but that's why they get paid the big bucks.

And of course fans will be totally understanding when a top recruit from the previous year decides to  leave because he is not getting enough playing time.... leaving them with a big void two years hence.....:)

JMO but step #1 of this trend is the guy going out of conference....step # 2 a few years down the road is for the guy go to a major rival...☹️

On the bright side, AU can get a major rivals top recruit!

How about from a minor rival like Mizz ?  Will that be OK?

The rules are the same for everybody, so no, I won't be totally understanding if our coach isn't doing his job as well as the coaches of our competition.

You mean like Nick Marshall, Tray Matthews and Corey Grant? Great! Only difference is they won't spend a season in the minors first.

And Golson too of course....But nope,  no sitting out a year or paying your own  way for a year.....just slide right over and play the next season.

And why wait until the idea of a transfer comes to the player's mind....just have a "friend" of the university contact a parent or mentor and mention that they have it on good authority that the son (or daughter) could probably start next year at STYX university.   Just a little pro-active work against schools that have some of those stockpiles of 4* and 5* players not seeing much time on the field. .

Sooooo.... increased parity? A way for players who were stuck in the wrong situation to find success and fulfillment? Another recruiting game where the rules are the same for everybody?

You're right, it's an even better improvement to the sport than I had imagined.

Auburn may as well take them, if they don't some other programs sure will.:dunno:

Parity?....is that the same thing as to encourage mediocracy ….like the NFL has?     if so, not sure that I would like that very much.

If you're going to conflate the definitions of parity and mediocrity, and if you prefer the current, strict caste system in CFB, then I don't suppose we need to continue any further.

By the way, NFL TV ratings are far higher than CFB ratings. CFB playoff game ratings approach those of regular season NFL games. Most people prefer parity to mediocrity instead of confusing one for the other. So good on you for going against the flow.

Parity for the masses instead of excellence for the few?   Still contend that what you get is mediocracy.....bringing the best down....socialism on the football field...letting have nots take from the haves?

Hah! This isn't the political forum.

The "have nots" can already take from the "haves". This doesn't change that. You're moving the goalposts.

This only makes things better for the players.

I get it. We tend to fear the unknown. But the dramatic commentary on this rule change is a little silly.

Should we change the NFL Draft so the worst teams don't get the top picks? To avoid mediocrity, of course.

Should probably remove the salary cap, too. Would be so much more fun to watch the Golden State Cowboys in the SB every year!

(I know this is a weird line of reasoning during the Belichick era, but that's what's so fascinating to some and so aggravating to others. Dude really is just football Rainman.)

Damn, you're right about the salary cap. It just enables league-wide mediocrity.

Crap, what about the scholarship limits? 25 is just letting everyone wallow in mediocrity. Let them sign 75 kids if they want to. I think I'm seeing where Gus was going with the Caddy hire now. With his ties the plan is now in motion to sign the entire student body at IMG Academy. LETS GOOOOOOOOOOO

What I am saying is that no matter how good this coming season is, 2020 is set up to be an absolute train wreck of epic proportions with how the OL is looking. This is the chief reason why he will be shown the door by end of 2020. Poor OL = no points/frequent punts = no rest for defense = D getting worn down each game = Defense will be a shell of themselves by the time November rolls around. We've seen this before but imagine the OL being worse than we have ever seen. We are much closer to being at that spot than having just a serviceable line for 2020.

Replacing 5 starters on an OL especially with how we've been recruiting on the OL would be a death sentence for any coach, not just Gus. But this has been a long and slow burn that we've all been seeing play out and it will eventually be the reason the bottom falls out for Gus IMO

Watch out '64, you're going to get a damn hernia the way you move those goalposts around here.  You're a grandpa for crying out loud, take it easy.

Don't stop me now...I'm on a roll.

What I think would be interesting to help the parity is that each January the bottom 25 schools in Div 1 based on RPI or whatever measure we like... would be able to select and transfer a player from a top 25 school.  The selections would be done in two rounds.

The bottom schools would each have one draft/transfer pick per round from any of the top teams and no team would have to give up more than three players. .  Players in the top teams would register for the transfer/draft and all moves would be voluntary.   The drafting schools would of course be allowed to contact players of interest in advance of the draft.

We need to fine tune the details but I think this has potential.

If a player turns out to be a bust, yes, it's players fault, but it's also, the coaches fault too.  Malzahn and his staff does not know how coach their players up and get the very best out of them for every game for 3 to 4 years while their on the Plains.

Every player is different. Sometimes it's not the coaches' fault. Player can't be forced to develop.

I always think about Jimmy Hutchinson in situations like this. Best punter in the country, then suddenly got the yips and almost literally disappeared. Turned out he had some serious stuff going on at home. Don't remember the specifics and that's okay because it's none of my business. Anyway, most of us know that life can come at you fast and hard and that can be especially true for a college kid.

It might not be anybody's fault. Life might have just got into a kid's head and/or heart and pointed him in a different direction.
