$12 million for upgrades at Plainsman Park. Included would be new seating above the “green monster” in left field

E, you got your wish if it goes through.

Edit: Just realized this was a year old post.  Haha.

When I worked the ticket office I was told repeatedly capacity was 14 k. That was the last 3 years of BEC. But you are right. I was misinformed. My apologies to the board on this matter.

El, I was present the night Memorial Coliseum was dedicated (2/22/69). Regardless of the capacity listed in Wikipedia, it was announced that night the capacity was 13K+.

Well we know part of the reason for this, the money can be there, but JJ can't be.....

This article says it should be opening at the end of the month, but it's from August so I wonder what the status is now. I definitely want to see it.

Just write 'em a check and there will be no need for fundraising. Otherwise I'm with aucanuck.....how much does a big campaign like this drain off of the other financial needs of the school? AUHI keeps saying we are a "football factory".....and something like this proposal is just another validation of his POV.

So we continue to pamper a couple hundred 18-21 year old students...probably at the expense of about 25,000 other students. And we do this for the prima donnas, some/many of whom will turn us down or later decamp if they don't get their dreams to come true. UGH.... :puke: At least the NFL is honest about the fact that it's "all about the money".

Don't think this drains from the academic side. There are new academic building going up and planned all over campus

From Auburn University

Thanks to the generous philanthropy of alumni and friends through Because This is Auburn — A Campaign for Auburn University, Auburn is the first university in the state to raise $1 billion in a comprehensive fundraising campaign.

Auburn achieved this remarkable success in record time — more than a year earlier than projected. With 16 months remaining in the campaign, leaders say the university will continue raising funds.

Because This is Auburn supports four major areas: students, faculty, programs and facilities. To date, the campaign has resulted in the creation of nearly 1,000 new scholarships for students and 89 new endowed chairs and professorships for educators and researchers. Donors have invested more than $537 million in new programs, and gifts of more than $132 million are building new facilities and reimagining existing campus facilities.

While the university has surpassed its campaign fundraising goals for students and programs, the remainder of the campaign will focus heavily on reaching the goals established to support faculty and facilities.

This subject agitates me more than any other when it comes to our athletics. Unfortunately, I care way more about football than any of our other programs. Our stadium is falling so far behind in the arms race of the SEC....

FYI for those complaining about timeline...

On th books is a widening of the concourse at Jordan Hare for this offseason. Not sure the extent of the project, but there will be improvements being made on the stadium this year.

Ummm yeah. That's nothing close to what was expected or originally planned. The only reason this passed was because JJ did not have to raise funds for it.

As someone noted in another thread, this may not be the best time to be in Auburn basketball or football fan but it sure is the best time to be an athlete.

These guys are pampered beyond belief as noted by the new game room on another post. Athletic department is spending a fortune on these guys aside from offering them a chance for a quality education.

Only thing Jay could get done without the BOT's approval. Was a safety issue. And has nothing to do with "upgrades" or "improvements". And will be a waste of money when the real expansion happens. But hey, carry on.

That's actually not true, WDE. The "widening of the concourse" is actually installing the support structure necessary for the additions to the end zone.  This is actually a classic example of selling part of the project as something else in order to get started on the larger project.

Could have been done a couple 100k less when done with the whole expansion project.

All the money AU has needs to be allocated to knocking down the nightmare hellhole that is named Parker, and replacing it with a building that isn't the Ted Bundy equivalent of GPA murdering.

Probably... The down side of people making decisions based on feelings instead of logic.  It's becoming a standard these days.

I have to imagine what we see at Auburn is a microcosim of what we are going to experience as a country.  I leader with limited backing, and questionable qualifications, trying to get something done with very little support from those around him or backing from his constituents.

I do wish the money people would analyze Jay's proposals for the value of the idea and not who it came from. If nothing else, the board could just require him to hire an outside project manager. In the long run it would be cheaper than all of this BS.
