Auburn's #1 rank Equestrian team is in Waco, Tx. They had a first round bye and competed friday vs. #8 Kansas State. They defeated Kansas State 15-1. It's my understanding that this was the largest margin of victory ever at quarterfinals.

WACO, Texas - The No. 1 Auburn equestrian team made a statement Friday at the NCEA Championship, defeating No. 8 Kansas State 15-1 in the quarterfinals. The Tigers move on to the semifinal round of competition slated for Saturday at 8:30 a.m. CT in the Extraco Events Center in Waco, Texas.

"This was one of the best wins this program has had at the NCEA meet," head coach Greg Williams said. "We feel very good going into tomorrow. If we keep riding like have all year and today, we should be bearing down on a national championship."

Auburn will take on SEC rival and No. 5 Texas A&M in the semifinals. The Aggies advanced after defeating No. 4 Oklahoma State 11-5 Friday and opened the national meet with a 14-2 win over No. 12 Fresno State Thursday.

The top-ranked Tigers enjoyed a successful and full day, sweeping three of four events. Reining opened with a solid showing, sweeping the Wildcats 4-0. Sophomore Alexa Rivard got things started with a 141-135.5 victory, while freshman Blair McFarlin's 140 points bested KSU's Kara Guy. Seniors Hailey Munger and Griffin Knight also finished with wins as Munger won 136-134 and Knight came away with a 141-140.5 victory.

The Tigers followed with another sweep, this time coming in Equitation on the Flat. Freshman Ashton Alexander picked up a 137-135 win over Gretchen Koenen, while junior Ashley Foster followed with a 159-137 victory over Rory Reichelt. SEC Freshman Flat Rider of the Year Caitlin Boyle followed with a 151-131 win and senior Elizabeth Benson finished with her team-best 15th Flat win, defeating Christina Martinelli 163-143.

Auburn picked up three wins in Horsemanship as Lauren Diaz, Hannah Loseke and Knight rode to victories. Diaz, the SEC Freshman Rider of the Year in the event, captured 152.5-144.5 win over Wildcat Sydney Anson. Loseke, the senior from Kearney, Neb., earned a 151.5-144.5 victory for her 10th of the season. Knight picked up her team-leading 13th win in the event, defeating Danielle Kemper, 146.5-144.

The Equitation Over Fences crew completed the Tiger win with a 4-0 sweep. Alexander captured a 155-137 victory and Benson followed with a 164-149 win. Freshman Hayley Iannotti made her NCEA Championship debut with a 154-148 victory over Wildcat Molly Dunn and Boyle closed out the day with a 173-167 win.

Auburn defeated Texas A&M 10-6 to advance to the FINALS later today.

 !

Bammer is now trying to field an Equestrian team. AU beat them 12-0 earlier this season. A shutout is pretty much unheard of in this sport. I didn't think they would ever have an Equestrian team over there, what with them being Barn impoverished. Everybody knows you can't have horses without a BARN!

National champs....and bet we are not paying a coach $3 million a year or hustling impressionable young ladies with promises of a professional career. True student athletes....congrats to them all.

I would guess that they are riding red & white jackasses!
