Thanks, just tired of seeing the ESPN ticker come across every weekend with another Turd commitment or two, and we've been sitting stagnant on 13 for a while now. Wish business would pick up a little bit on commitments.

if that is happening with Bama then it's a bit of an anomaly. This is usually a slow time for commitments.

2018 three-star running back/kick returner/athlete Shaun Shivers is committing today. Auburn is the trending pick.

I unintentionally exaggerated a bit. Just looked at rivals and they got a 4 star athlete on 10/1 and a 4 star tight end this weekend. Sorry.

Still would like to see a couple come our way in the near future.

I believe this is my 50th post, so do I get confetti thrown at me or a cupcake or something?

LOL no. You did get a verified member badge under your name though and you can now start threads.

We don't have a single DT or DE in this class. What's up with that?

It's a week DL class overall and we're only taking one DT. At DE we appear in good shape with Ryan Johnson. He's not committing until late in the process though. We still need to find a pass rusher in this class somewhere.

E, I noticed we don't have any commits for D-linemen. Who are we most likely to land on signing day?

Auburn recruiting has been pretty slow lately, especially when you consider how hot we have been on the field. I'm really hoping that recruiting will pick up after we beat UGA convincingly on the road next weekend.

Looking at our class, the one guy that I wouldn't be surprised to lose is Octavius Matthews. There's no need for us to sign 3 RB's in this class, and we especially do not need a JUCO RB. If all 3 signed, then we would 7 RB's for next year and that's way too many.

I personally believe that his spot should go to a position on the OL or DL. We need to continue to upgrade the OL & DL in order to keep up with UGA, LSU, & UAT with guys like Netori Johnson, Cesar Ruiz, Jonah Gray, etc.

I'm very excited about our LB class. I wouldn't be upset if we took both Rice & Taylor to close it out. For the record, I am still upset about not landing Benton. It's a principle thing for me. But I feel confident that Moultry & Britt will have better careers.

Regardless of team rankings, this class will be judged in my eyes by whether or not we land Jarrett Stidham. I'm praying that everything is still on schedule for the Kendall Briles / Jarrett Stidham combination next year. I think both of these guys (especially Stidham) can take us to the next level with the deep ball. Opening up the passing game will open up the running game even more, give us more balance, and make us more difficult to defend.

Remaining positional wants & top targets per Keith

Quote

With the NCAA contact period underway (see breakdown here), the Auburn staff will hit the road hard beginning Sunday in an attempt to  1. secure the current commitments and 2. land new ones.

Right now, Auburn has 16 commits, but only 15 will count toward the scholarship totals (Bill Tayor will blue shirt). That means the Tigers have approximately 10 spots to fill.

Here's a quick overiew of the Tigers' needs/wants.

QUARTERBACK

Have committed: 1 (Tray Bishop)

Spots to fill: 1

Top target: Jarrett Stidham (Baylor transfer)

411: Stidham will visit Tuesday. Texas A&M is Auburn’s biggest threat. Also, he is watching to see what happens with Tigers offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee.

RUNNING BACK

Have committed: 3 (Devan Barrett, Octavius Matthews, Alaric Williams)

Spots to fill: 0

Top target: TBD.

411: At this time, Auburn is comfortable with what is has at this position. Things that could change that: A de-commitment, an academic issue or possibly if Kamryn Pettway leaves early for the NFL.

TIGHT END

Have committed: 0

Spots to fill: 1

Top target: Tre' McKitty of Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy.

411: It’s a 3-team race between Auburn, Florida State and Miami for McKitty. A decision could come in January.

WIDE RECEIVER

Have committed: 1 (Noah Igbinoghene)

Spots to fill: 1-2

Top target: Tarik Black of Cheshire Academy (Conn.), Brandon Martin of Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College or Tamorrion Terry of Turner County (Ga.)

411: Black will announce Jan. 7; Martin will officially visit in two weeks; Terry will officially visit in January.

OFFENSIVE LINE

Have committed: 3 (Calvin Ashley, Nick Brahms, Austin Troxell)

Spots to fill: 1-2

Top target: Jordan Agasiva of Pima Community College (Ariz.).

411: The Tigers are expected to visit Agasiva, a guard/tackle, this week.

DEFENSIVE LINE

Have committed: 0

Spots to fill: 3

Top target: Ryan Johnson of Mobile (Ala.) St. Paul’s Episcopal or Markaviest Bryant of Cordele (Ga.) Crisp County.

411: Johnson attended the Iron Bowl. The Auburn staff will visit him Monday.

LINEBACKER

Have committed: 3 (Kenney Britt, Tadarian Moultry, Chandler Wooten)

Spots to fill: 1

Top target: Monty Rice of Madison (Ala.) James Clemens or Tyler Taylor of Buford (Ga.) Lanier.

411: Look for the Tigers to visit both of the above targets this week. Rice and Taylor will officially visit the weekend of Dec. 9.

DEFENSIVE BACK

Have committed: 3 (Malcolm Askew, Carlito Gonzalez, Jordyn Peters)

Spots to fill: 1-2

Top target: CJ Avery of Grenada (Miss.) or Devon Hunter of Chesapeake (Va.) Indian River.

411: Avery will announce between Auburn, Louisville, Mississippi State and Ole Miss on Dec. 14. Hunter could announce Christmas Eve.

SPECIALISTS

Have committed: 2 (K/P Anders Carlson, LS Bill Taylor)

Spots to fill: 0

Top target: None

411: Taylor will blue shirt. He will enroll at Auburn next summer but will not count toward the scholarship totals until the following January.

It seems crazy that we have 0 DL with the year that our guys have had.

We are only taking 2-3 DL total and this is a down year nationally for DL recruits.

Are we going to go after any of these recent UTK decommits? I saw some DTs (twins) and a 4* DB all yesterday..

They have never been mentioned on the staff's board so I don't expect it but you never know.

How many can AU take in this class?   According to 247 AU had 24 commitments for 2016.   But shows 22 enrolled (Manning and Newkirk not included).   Within those 22 it counts Stephen Davis Jr and Bro Hamm and wasn't sure that either of them were put on scholarship at that time given their respective situations.  So AU can sign somewhere between 25-30 in this cycle (5 counting back to last year?)

Also, what is the # currently.  247 shows 16 commits counting the kicker and the long snapper.  Are they counting towards the #

THanks and WDE!

25 is the max AU can sign in this class. Transfers on scholly count against the yearly 25 initial counter limits also but recruiting sites do not show them on their class pages. Counting transfers we had 25 initial counters for 2016.

The kicker is coming in on scholly and will count in this class.

The snapper will be blueshirted which means go on scholly after June 1 allowing AU to count him in 2018 and not be apart of the 25 limit for 2017. As part of the blue shirt loophole the recruit can come in on scholly & practice but not play in year 1 on campus. That's different from the more common gray shirt who can't be on scholly, practice, nor play his 1st season on campus.

So even though 247 has 16 the actual number with AU's plans for the snapper is 15 right now.

@ellitor I'm assuming if we get Stidham, he'll be a counter for 2017 even though he'll be an early enrollee and Juco transfer?

Yes. 2016 initial counter limit is full.
