JF3 in Netflix Documentary- airing 7/29

Recommended Posts

For those that either don't have Netflix or haven't watched it yet, JF3 doesn't exactly show out in the second episode. So far, he's cocky, runs his mouth about the coaches on the sideline, fumbles and throws like a receiver trying to play qb. Let's hope he turns it around quickly and shows a different skill set and attitude because he has been less than impressive so far.

And that advisor/babysitter deserves waaay more than whatever they're paying her.

My wife said the same about the academic counselor.  She said, Sad how inept and incompetent some were academically.

This JF3 documentary does not support the narrative that has been pushed here for why JF3 couldn't start at QB at juco. People said it was primarily because they already had their QB in the country boy. However, it appears that Buddy and his staff wanted JF3 to start but they also lamented that they run a "passing offense" and that JF3 was incredibly sporadic.

Darn those offenses that force a quarterback to throw the ball.

Well, there certainly are more ways to skin the cat than demanding that a QB air it out. Randy Campbell couldn't throw, but he could play QB. Eric Crouch had a limp noodle for an arm, but he could win a Heisman.

Even so, given my druthers, I'd rather have a passer.

Going up against today's SEC defenses, you have to be able to complete screens, slants and swing passes at the very least. No noodle arm QB or even a guy with an absolute cannon that can't hit a wide open receiver will be effective in today's SEC.

I agree. Based on what Ive seen of the two, Jason Smith would be a better option at QB than JFIII, but what i"ve seen of JFIII is very limited. Still it is very obvious with just 5 mins of observation that Smith was better fundamentally at QB in high school than JFIII is fundamentally now. JFIII doesn't even throw like a QB, and I can't understand the hype on this board thinking he is going to start and be ok. Let the guy develop and see in a year or so. Work him in slowly. If he ends up being our best option, I'm afraid we are in for another crap season.

Need to chill out saying JF3 runs his mouth etc. We have to remember this is a 20 year old who had a camera on him at all times. Every player I have played sports with runs mouth about coahces. I could only imagine the type of stuff that would have been said on camera with one following me all day.  I don't think he looks like a wr at all n series. Also u will hear coach buddy Stephen's say later in the series he thinks he has a qb there now who could be better than all the qbs before that include Chad Kelly and body wallace. Stephen's will also say if they were more of a running team JF3 would fit in perfectly because he throws a very good deep ball, but Robert's fits their system better of short intermediate passing game. Also lol at Boisenumber saying Jason Smith would be a better option that is a ridiculous statement.

Only on the 1st episode, but please watch this for more than just JF3. Look at these guys backgrounds and try to understand where they are coming from. Of course, you have to take responsibility for your own actions, but this should be an eye opener that a lot of these guys were predisposed to a lot of things that could have dissuaded them from a life of sports. As one of the players said on the first episode, JUCO football is the farthest that anybody in his family has ever gotten at a collegiate level.

I've played sports my whole life and am now a coach. Calling a coach "stupid as f***" crosses the line and is indefensible. I also understand coach speak and he's not going to say that his flashy new transfer from FSU is hot garbage. If he outperforms Chad Kelly this year I'll gladly eat my crow. Also, keep in mind I qualified all of this by saying I'm only 2 episodes in and I hope things change.

This is why everyone needs to watch the series and gather their own interpretation. JF3 definitely does not lack confidence and seems to have a tude when things aren't going his way early on. Needs to work on that. However, I did like how throughout the 1st game when his team was going through adversity, he was there to provide support to Wyatt, who was starting and not moping around. Pros and Cons of young men.

Also the comment u made before out him being cocky, a qb needs to be cocky imo. I also played sports my whole life amd have met JF3 a few times. He is not a bad kid at all, and he is not a kid that would lack respect for coaches. We must have played in different eras because I have said and heard players call coaches a lot worse than that. Now if JF3 had said it to the coaches face it would have been different.

I am inclined to agree with this. Saying things like "the coach is stupid af" just makes me think of 2012. Don't know if our players did it then, but they obviously played divided and didn't seem to have a whole lot of respect for our coaches.

I completely agree that a QB needs to have a certain swagger. What I've seen 2 episodes in (in my opinion) crosses the line from swagger to obnoxious at times. I played at a large high school until 2004 and have coached for 4+ years now. I play music (rap) at practices and would probably consider myself pretty "new age". I also believe in discipline and respect. Any player repeatedly  yelling to other players that my- or any other coach's decision -was "stupid as f***" is going to get snatched up in a heartbeat. Again, I hope JF3 is a superstar for us. I wish him nothing but the best- just haven't been overly impressed thus far.

ETA- I thought that call in question was stupid. Ive certainly thought worse things about a coach before but those are things that are said in private or just stay in your head. At worst you mumble it under your breath on the sideline. My issue is with him yelling it over and over to his teammates. That's not the way to lead a team.

I think the academic counselor will be the big star to come out of this series. The documentary is really done well and hard to stop watching. I would love to see a documentary of this type done at AU, but Gus(nor any other SEC coach more than likely) would ever allow it. The look and feel of small town Mississippi really comes through the camera. Way better than the Arizona Cardinals Netflix show that I also enjoyed.

You can LOL all you want. Show me one thing that says JFIII is better than Smith at QB? One thing. You can't. Other than what you THINK. I'm not saying Smith is an option at QB, but when came in, he was better than JFIII is coming in. So JFIII throws a great deep ball...so we are back to the run the ball or heave it 50 yards downfield every pass play?  I'd love for JFIII to come in and win the job because he's that good, but anyone who is saying he has done ANYTHING to show that he can is delusional. There is just no evidence whatsoever to back up that claim.

One thing would be I have seen both practice at qb.  I think I can base my opinion on that.

And AU went to two NC games with two Juco QBs. Neither has any direct correlation with any of the three QBs we have on the plains right now. We will have to wait, pray and hope for the best.

BTW, I do think an offense like 2009 might be the best way to go for this team.
