Hell, the cops screwed that one from the start if they didn't press for a blood test when he blew negative for alcohol and still failed the field test. Did they not consider that concussion may have been the reason he was lethargic, slow speech and so confused that the drove off from the accident? If they had sought medical attention then the hospital would have done the blood test. My guess is the police never intended for the charges to stick. They saw a football player that needed to not be driving that night and "gave" him a place to sleep off his impairment. The cops allow him to get embarassed a little bit to "teach him a lesson" and off he goes. I'm guessing its that simple.

How the hell did the cops think the charges would stick for DUI if they didn't demand a blood test to check for drugs? DUI does not refer to JUST alcohol. They should have taken him to the hospital and got a warrant for a blood draw, but with it being a parking lot it wouldn't have been looked on as bad than if it occurred on the roadway. Now had it been on the roadway causing serious injury, totally different story.
