Chad Kelly involved on field brawl

Chad Kelly Brawl

Ole Miss has a bye week this week, so their quarterback, Buffalo native Chad Kelly, took the occasion to go home for the weekend. While attending his former high school’s game, a brawl broke out and Kelly took a very active role in it, apparently after his brother took a late hit. In the video below, you can see him get tossed out of the action around 0:18. The red-helmeted team appears to be St. Joseph’s, his alma mater.

His brother received a dity hit and a brawl broke out. I can't fault him too much for wanting to protect his brother.

I sure can.  He was there as a SPECTATOR.  He was and is not a coach or a team mate.  He belongs in the stands and he should have stayed there.   He's lucky he wasn't arrested for trespassing.   He had no business going out there at all.

I agree he had no business being out there. I just don't fault him too much for protecting his brother. Looked like his brother got roughed up a good bit. A very late hit and then he was roughed up in the middle of the melee. It would have served him right if he were arrested for it.

He's not a high school kid anymore.   Knuckle head behavior.

Coaches whether they are in high school or college have to control who they allow on the sidelines.   There are way too many people on the sidelines now that are there only because they are a celebrity or former player.    If you are not helping manage the team or the game,  you need to be in the stands

Eh. Stupid, but people do stupid things when it comes to defending family. Chad has been a model citizen for most of his time at Ole Miss. Hopefully this will serve as another step toward his maturing.

I'm surprised that Chad Kelly has lasted this long at Ole Miss. He has a tremendous arm but nothing between the ears.

"Nothing between the ears" ... ...  Uh, wouldn't that be why he's at Ole Miss?

... When he was in high school. Chad hasn't always made good decisions, but he has made huge strides towards cleaning himself up since being at Ole Miss.

Thank God Twitter wasn't around when I was in high school, or cell phone videos for that matter.

This incident friday night shows the exact opposite.

No it doesn't. It shows he took a step back. Imagine an alcoholic who sobered up for 9 months before relapsing one night. Not exactly apples to apples, but I'm not going to dismiss the list of positives in light of one negative. The truth is, relative to his past, Chad has done very well since being at Ole Miss.

Careful, you may not want to compare his GPA versus JF3's since both of them are products of the same juco.

No, It shows he's still the same hot head punk he's always been and he hasn't changed.  Once is one thing, more than once is a pattern.

I'll concede that Chad Kelly has a history of losing his temper, attitude problems, problems with authority, etc. These were most pervasive during his time at Clemson and when he first arrived in Oxford - notably fighting outside of a nightclub and resisting arrest.

But, I just can't ignore all the GOOD things that we've heard about Chad Kelly between then and this past Friday. Like him becoming a born-again Christian, getting involved with campus and team ministries and contributing on missions trips. We've heard that he does well in the classroom. He's become a leader in the locker room. They say he doesn't "party" anymore. This is all coming from his coaches and teammates. We haven't seen any evidence of attitude problems on the field. No fights with other players or teammates. No unsportsmanlike penalties. Instead, he's played clean, winning football. Now, maybe some of what we've heard is fluff. Maybe Chad didn't have a turn around. Maybe he hasn't been making good decisions and he's fooled everyone until now.

Or, in the alternative, like most people, he's still a work in progress. I don't know about you, WT, but there are habits and behaviors that I've carried with me from childhood into adulthood, behaviors that I would like to change, but for whatever reason, mainly pride, I still struggle with. Yet, if you looked at some of the things that I have changed, and only looked at that behavior, not at what was happening in other places in my life, you might also have written me off as the same punk with a  _________ problem.

I think about someone trying to lose weight. Someone who worked hard to make changes in their behavior and lost 50 pounds over a year. If that person caved in one Friday night, and decided to spend the weekend feasting on doughnuts and ice cream, I don't think I'd be prepared to call them the same old fat ass, despite all the hard work put in and the pounds lost.

To me, two things are clear: Chad Kelly has been working hard to "shed pounds", and in light of what happened Friday night, he still has a long way to go.

Well, alright. I never said he was a Saint, and that's his business.

I'm not trying to make him out to be Tim Tebow. I'm just acknowledging that he has done extremely well in Oxford, a hard place not to get into trouble, and that he has clearly tried to change some behaviors that got him in trouble in the past. What Friday night means, I really don't know. Letting your emotions get the best of you and running on the field to defend family is a far cry from being hammered, resisting arrest and threatening to go get his AK-47.

It was more of a joke than anything.

Personally, I just think he's an all around douche. His rap video, calling himself "Swag Kelly" pretty much solidified that opinion. I work with a huge Ole Miss fan and he also shares the opinion. But he puts them in a position to win more often than not, so he can look past Kelly's personality and transgressions.

Oh I don't like Chad Kelly. I just appreciate that he's at least tried to do some things right for a change, and I applaud Hugh Freeze for his hand in keeping Chad out of trouble. Anyway, I've already gone way too far over the top in defending him. I should probably just shut up haha.

Now if we could only get bird to do that I would be a very very happy person
