bmartin3228 117
Boys and girls we are getting a special special athlete in Gatewood . He is a man among boys playing against high school All Americans . Has some ugly passes but if he can do enough to hit open receivers and develop more as passer better watch out !!!!!! Don't have highlights , but had a TD throw with great touch and a TD Run second half . Passing got a little better second half besides a throw off his back foot that was intercepted but negated by a penalty.

ellitor 33,062
Quote Meet Joey Gatewood, Under Armour MVP and Auburn’s next star quarterback Joey Gatewood was an Under Armour MVP on Thursday night in Orlando, Fla. David Wilson/DieHards Pete Scantlebury Posted 15 hours ago ORLANDO, Fla. — By definition, Joey Gatewood isn’t under the radar. He’s a 4-star recruit. He’s signed with Auburn. He’s an Under Armour All-American. One of his high school games was televised by ESPN earlier in the season. But make no mistake — Joey Gatewood is under the radar. That’s because his future position remains up for debate. 247Sports lists Gatewood as a dual-threat quarterback, but also as the nation’s ninth-ranked athlete. There’s always been that “yeah, but” with Gatewood. He’s a tremendous quarterback for Bartram Trail; yeah, but he might project better as a defensive end or tight end in college. After watching Gatewood during the Under Armour All-American Game on Thursday at Camping World Stadium, one thing is clear: Joey Gatewood, Auburn’s future quarterback, is the SEC’s most under-the-radar recruit in the 2018 signing class. Gatewood has the size (6-foot-4, 232 pounds) to do whatever he wants on the football field. He has the arm to make every throw on the field. While he didn’t win the quarterback skills competition earlier in the week, he took home one of the two MVP awards from the game itself. When he gets on the field, Gatewood has all the tools to be one of the best college quarterbacks in the nation. Get you a quarterback that can do both, Gus. Wow. Gatewood already went blow for blow with Trevor Lawrence, the nation’s top-ranked quarterback, earlier this year. In that game, Gatewood — who for some reason splits series with another quarterback at Bartram Trail — completed 10 of 13 passes for 184 yards and a touchdown, while running for 123 yards and 2 touchdowns. On the season, Gatewood completed 68 percent of his passes for 1,468 yards, 12 touchdowns and 1 interception. He ran for 1,100 yards and 16 touchdowns. In Orlando, Gatewood was the best quarterback there and it wasn’t very close. The numbers for his MVP performance don’t jump out at you (8-of-16 passing, 79 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT; 33 rushing yards, 1 TD), but don’t be fooled. This is always a sloppy, stop-and-go game. To get the entire picture of Gatewood, you have to see him in person. You have to see what he does to defenders. You have to see the touch he puts on his passes. He’ll be a star in Gus Malzahn’s system. For all the talk of the quarterbacks in Tuscaloosa and Athens, Gatewood has flown under the radar. Give it a year or two, because soon, Gatewood will be going toe to toe with the best quarterbacks in the SEC and the nation. 2

abw0004 10,108
@ellitor: Is it possible to set up a thread of just highlights from our commits/recruits for the All-American game? Good and bad plays. It would be fun to get a glimpse since I didn't watch yesterday.

SumterAubie 3,031
So he has the arm for the deep throw, but can he throw a bubble screen? If so, he can handle all of Auburn's pass plays.

ellitor 33,062
Quote UA All-America Game: Ranking the Quarterbacks 2. JOEY GATEWOOD Gatewood has progressed as a passer this season and he showed flashes of his arm and improved mechanics this week. He has a live arm and is exciting to watch when outside the pocket. Gatewood was still up and down when it came to accuracy and he forced the ball at times, but overall, the Auburn signee had a good week. Gatewood showed what he could do as a runner in the game when he ran through Texas signee B.J. Foster .

AU64 10,122
When we talk DT quarterbacks, he looks like the real thing.....and likely AU won't have to push him onto the field before he is ready with JS and MW on the roster . Baring injuries, the QB situation looks solid for several years now. ...no matter the lure of NFL $$$

Nothing makes me chuckle more than outlining our succession plan at QB. It's never worked. Not even one single time. Not even close. 2
