Two good thing I saw in the game despite how badly we shot FT's during the whole game down the stretch we made our FT's. It was almost like I really need to concentrate and make my FT's, second was the number of blocked shots. Maybe we get more rebounds if we are not trying to block every shot but on most of the blocked shots we also got the ball. I think the blocked shots also caused an awful lot of missed shots around the basket.

Whats going on with TJ Dunans? I may be looking at this completely wrong but not only do I feel as if he's playing awful but I feel like he's being selfish with the ball. He's such a better player than this. I wonder if there's something going on we don't know about.

There may be. I hate to judge a young guy like TJ especially when he's been seemingly a great kid but I'd assume that it's his seniority kicking in. He knows the young kids are still a little trigger happy (which they are, no doubt) and when he thinks we/they are in a rut, he seems to keep it for himself. That may be my selective bias only allowing me to remember plays where he acted a little selfish when he should have/could have dished it to a younger guy for a better shot.

At the same time, he may have the right to do that some and it may be the coaching calling for him to take ISOs (he did hit that game winner for us so it's not like he's disappointed when given the chance, also just barely missed the first half buzzer beater on that little triangle play today).

But I agree with you, he's looked a little out of character these past few games and has seemed to almost regress. Hope everything is alright with him and he gets turned around.

I don't think it is any of the above. It appears he is being asked to play a different role from last year. This season when he is on the court, he is often the primary source of creating offense. This requires him to be more aggressive offensively. He had done a good job at times passing out of a drive, some spectacular passes that our man wasn't ready for. I think he is better when he is allowed to let the game come to him, but coming off the bench he isn't going to get the minutes needed to play that style. We have seen him get extended minutes in a few games and play more like last year.

Take last night for example. Just before the half we had an inbounds situation under Mizzou's basket. CBP subbed Dunans in for a designed play. He received the inbounds, drove right off of a high ball screen and took it to the basket. He ended up missing the contested layup, but you get my point. Without DP , and an injured Heron, when he was on the floor last night I would bet you he was being asked to create, not him being selfish or seniority kicking in.

I agree that it's just as much of a possibility. That's why I said in my original post that it might be coaching decisions causing him to take on the role. I referenced how he's had more iso and the barely missed buzzer beater against Mizzou in my post that you quoted.

that being said, he's seemed to have more "why didn't he pass that?" plays. Like I said in my post, it may just be my selective bias causing me to see more of it during our losing streak/near loss to mizzou rather than just blowing it off while we were having a great ooc run.

he has seemed to be playing a solid 10 minutes less than usual these past couple of games too. Which could just be the re addition of Brown/Spencer and the addition of Wiley. But I believe even Waddell has registered more minutes since Vandy than TJ has and I don't recall TJ getting hurt or anything.

Not sure but he looks sloppy as hell lately.  Not sure why Bruce hasn't pulled him.

Probably hoping he, as a senior,  becomes a leader for these young guys.  I don't think he should be on the court near the end of games, but he needs to play a role for sure. If he cant figure out how to help lead a bunch of freshmen as a senior, then we'll just have to hope actual freshman like Heron, Harper or Purifoy can step up. That's a tough row to hoe... Dunans stepping up to be a leader is exactly what this team needs.

Was hoping / thinking he would be the leader but his tendency to go one-on-one and dribble-drive at crunch time in a game is probably not conducive to leadership....usually causes the other guys to kinda stand around while he 'does his thing'.   But if he is in the game, he seems to have the ball in his hands...might be what BP intends or maybe just that once he gets the ball, the motion of the offense kind of stops.

Seems the "leader" should be on the floor when the game is on the line....thus Harper and Heron are at least in position to lead the effort and are two of our better FT shooters.

It's a tough situation because he's a senior and he's more than capable of playing really well.  I've been thinking about this and I remember in the "leadership on the team" thread the guy providing insight said that TJ has a young son so I'm wondering if he may be feeling the pressure of impressing scouts and going pro to help provide for his young family. I don't know if this is a legit possibility but it wouldn't surprise or upset me. Bowers had a young child as well and I remember towards the end of last season he was getting frustrated and sloppy, even got suspended a game.  This is just wild speculation that is probably not true, but I couldn't blame TJ if he's hogging the ball more as a way to try to go pro for his son.  I'm probably overthinking this but I'm digging for answers.  He's probably just in a slump and I'm overreacting but who knows with auburn basketball.

I'll tell you all now, that while Dunans hasn't played great, he is an important part of this team. We lost the only game he didn't play in to a terrible BC team. He is a gap filler, he can defend, score, pass, and rebound. He isn't great at any of them, but can fill the stat sheet in them all. That is why CBP hasn't pulled him and why he will continue to get minutes in middle portion of games, to preserve our starters legs, and to fill the gaps in our rotations. I had high hopes for Dunans this season as well, it appears he will fall short of those, but still a vital part of the rotation. Hopefully, he gets it going again.

A player who I haven't seen play much is TJ Lang. Last year he seemed like a steady player, especially shooting the ball. He must be in Pearl's doghouse.

Lang has been starting in Brown's absence, so I'm sure he isn't in any doghouse. He is a role player, limited in his skills, a specialist. Only a certain amount of minutes available for a spot up shooter who isn't much of a ball handler, rebounder, or defender.

I actually thing you will continue to see less of him as Brown works his way back into CBP's good graces.

Thanks, I just never heard his name mentioned so I wondered what the deal was.

Man, that is an indictment. for a guy in his 3rd year or something....who was a pretty good "get" for AU out of HS.

Not an indictment, just an honest observation of where is game is currently. Averaging 4 points, 0 assists, and 2 rebounds. I like Lang, he had a role. But starting and playing 25+ minutes like has has done recently isn't it.

That is on Brown, putting CBP and the team in that position. Last game we saw langs minites drop from 28 to 15, expect that trend to continue as Brown comes on.

I like Brown starting. Lang has no chance to guard UK's guards on the perimeter. I like Brown starting going forward as well. I assume it will happen once he satisfies CBP's conditions, which it appears happened judging by his minutes vs Mizzou. We will see.
