Dirt trackin at Bristol next year! Can't wait.  But I'm ticked they took away Kentucky speedway now that I moved here.  I was an hour from the track. Crap!

NASCAR Cup Series to go dirt trackin’ at Bristol in 2021

Dustin Long

Cup teams will compete on a dirt track for the first time in more than 50 years when the series races March 28 at Bristol Motor Speedway, the track announced.

The full Cup schedule is set to be released at 3:30 p.m. ET today.

“Bristol Motor Speedway has hosted many historic events over the years and we will be adding to that resume,” Jerry Caldwell, general manager of Bristol Motor Speedway, said on Wednesday. “We can’t wait to see how the stars of NASCAR take to the dirt.”

Said Austin Dillon of the race on dirt: “I’m super pumped. … I’m hoping it becomes a staple.”

Caldwell said the track will work with NASCAR on the race format for the dirt event.

“This is returning to our roots in racing,” Caldwell said. He noted that this concept has been talked about for “awhile.” He also said the track will “explore other options” on any other series that could race on dirt beyond NASCAR.

Caldwell said the change comes from feedback from fans. Marcus Smith, Speedway Motorsports President and CEO, said Wednesday that he pitched the idea of a dirt race at Bristol for the 2020 schedule.

Bristol hosted dirt races in 2000-01 with the World of Outlaws (see video below of 2001 race) and dirt late models. The track used 14,000 truckloads of dirt for the project.

The last Cup race on dirt was Sept. 30, 1970 at the North Carolina State Fairgrounds. Richard Petty won a 200-lap race on the half-mile track. He earned $1,000. Petty was among one of five Hall of Famers in the 23-car field that day. Bobby Isaac finished third, Bobby Allison placed sixth, Benny Parsons was 14th, Wendell Scott placed 20th.

The NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Series raced on dirt at Eldora Speedway from 2013-19. It was not held this year because of COVID-19 restrictions.

Bristol also will host a second race. That event again will be in the playoffs. The Sept. 18 race again will be an elimination race in the first round. The playoff race will be on the concrete track surface.

Woo Hoo. Chase wins his 4th road course in a row (2 shy from Gordon’s record of 6 straight). And Kyle Busch eliminated from Championship contention. LOL

Chase still alive, will race for the championship next week!  Chase had to win in Martinsville to advance yesterday, where he had never won a short track race in 30 attempts.  Chase pulled it off. Harvick was eliminated as he crashed into Kyle Busch in last lap and finished outside of top 4. Go get em Chase!!!

Woohoo!  This championship was so sweet, especially for all us championship deprived JR fans that converted over when he retired.  So refreshing to see the kid race.  24 yrs old. 3rd youngest to do it.  Way to Go Chase!

Second youngest in the modern era. Along with Jeff Gordon some old fogey named Bill Redford did it a long long long time ago in a galaxy far far away.

Just a reminder, Chase is Champ! Hehe. This would have been cool to see on the morning drive.

Season highlights.  I didn't realize Chase started from the rear of field in Championship.  Man what a clutch performance by him.  Win to get in on the last playoff race, then win from the rear of the field in the final race.  And reigning 4 time road course winner.  Great year kid!

Daytona 500 today!  Hamlin going for a 3 peat at the 500. Never been done.  Chase starts his title defense.  Going to be a wild season.  6 road courses (right turns), and a dirt race at Bristol.  Oh and Clint Boyer in the booth, one of the most hilarious personalities in the Nascar circuit.  I missed the Xfinite face but read where Boyer and Tony Stewart were gold.

Also the 20th anniversary of Dale Earnhardt senior death.  Wow 20 years already.

Michael McDowell wins the 500 as the top 2 cars crash out on last lap.  Chase finishes 2nd. Happy for Mc. He's a strong Christian and worked hard for several years.  Glad to see him get his first Cup win in the 500!

To give a little inside on what goes on at a race.  Good segment after every race. Chase was close to getting the win.

Back at Daytona for the road course tomorrow.  Chase going for 6RCs in a row! Gordon had 7 or 8 in a row as the record. Can't quite remember.  Chase starts on the Pole! Road Courses have been great since the Cup drivers have been getting more practice on them.  They will have good practice this year with 6 on the schedule.  Always an exciting finish with one.

NASCAR on dirt at Bristol was just a fantastic race. I would only hope that NASCAR can figure out a modification to allow the drivers to see out there on the restarts. The dust ploom got so thick, they were just running into each other later in the race.

Not NASCAR, but IndyCar.  Currently at the qualifying for the 500 next weekend.  Fast 9 is tomorrow.

Nascar is running on the new road course in Austin this weekend.  Circuit of the Americas. Hoping Chase can bring it home.

Yes! I know it's not ideal but I'll take it to get the win out of the way. And continues the road course dominance of late.  Hopefully he uses it to take the Coke 600 this weekend.  He was robbed of it last year, can't remember how but he came back a few days later to win at Charlotte.  This is when he got rolling last year.  Let's get it going now.

For any race fans out there of any circuit,  Sunday is typically the greatest race day of the year.  Monaco grand prix is usually the start but just learned it ran last weekend for some reason.  Bummer.  Still have the Indy 500 around lunch, with the Coke 600 in Charlotte that afternoon.

Champ looked good today! Chase wins Road America by 6 seconds! Nascar had a chance for a tragic end to Hendricks streak.  Bowman lost his brakes with about 6 to go,  ran into teammate Larson and spun him around.  Larson got going quick enough to not throw a caution.  If it was an oval it would have been, and when you have a teammate with 4 to 5 second lead with 6 to go, you don't want a caution! Lol.  Several cars pitted, hoping a caution would give them a chance but thankfully none did.  Hendrick has half the wins this year. Larson 4, bowman 3 Chase 2, and William Byron 1. Fun track today, a lot of good racing and passing.

Chase wins the SRX finale over Tony Stewart.  SRX is a new series that I think Tony Stewart created, that allows racing legends from all forms of racing both open and closed wheel to compete together.  In the race tonight, you had Bill Elliott racing his son Chase Elliott, Tony Stewart, Bobby Labonte, Helio Castroneves, Tony Kanaan, Hailie Deegan, etc. The series only races 6 events this year, but it was some good racing. Plenty of paint rubbing and tempers flaring. Can't wait until they come back next year.

Chase Freaking Elliott.  Best Road course racer today.  Started at the rear, also had an unscheduled pit, but man he almost took the win today.  Larson just ran perfect laps when Chase was on his bumper.
