OC or Bust for Craig

I agree 100%.  I think he still thinks he's ready to be an SEC OC right now.

While I do not think he is, I can see why he would.  Rhett Lashlee had far less experience when he moved to OC, as Lashlee went straight from GA fo OC.  I can see how that could make Craig feel he is due.

Man, I hate to see him have to go back to FSU.  I really thought some program would give him a shot at OC.

It's a little surprising, considering the generation he comes from, but I see it all the time in younger employees.  They come to me with expectations, if not demands, to move up the ladder, but when I ask them what they have done to deserve such a move, all they can point out is that they have done the minimum required of the job.

Infinity likes for the above.

I guess... seems a little delusional to me. Lashlee was very obviously a special case... the apprentice to the master, so to speak... and he did also OC outside of the SEC, at Arky State and Samford, before Gus brought him along to AU.

I agree that such thoughts would be delusional, but I do not expect or even assume everyone to be rational.  Envy, resentment, and/or feeling passed over affects people in different ways.  That said, Craig leaving FSU to come work for Gus confused me a little at the time.  I thought he was poised at FSU for Fisher to groom him as his offensive coordinator.

Didn't Lindsey go from analyst at Auburn to OC at Southern Miss?

And Malzahn's first college job was as an OC.

I think he had Mitch Mustain to thank for that.

+ Gus brought a few more highly rated recruits with him to Arky from his HS.  Houston Nutt was all but forced to hire Gus, it was the only way Nutt could get those 3-4 Arkansas HS recruits to stay home and play for the Hogs.

Correct me if I am wrong but in that position he can not do any recruiting.

Not unless Jimbo gets a special waiver for Craig to recruit for FSU even though he is not an on-the-field coach.  And Jimbo would have to sacrifice an actual coach from the recruiting trail.  This is what Hugh Freeze had to do to get Barney Farrar on the recruiting trail in the absence of Werner.

That may not be a bad thing for them. Swapping recruiting "rights" from a weaker recruiting coach to a recruiting specialist who isn't really on the field could make sense and maximize their recruiting skills they have inside the program.

The on-the-field coach that would be swapped for off campus recruiting would have to be able to provide a viable reason/circumstance for why he couldn't travel for the purposes of recruiting.      i.e. The OleMiss coach has/had a special needs child that required him to stay close to home to care for the child, he therefore couldn't travel all over the country recruiting for OM/Freeze.  So, OM petitioned the NCAA for a waiver that allowed the Asst. AD (Farrar) to go on the trail and recruit off campus in his place.  Ends up Farrar gets tagged in the NCAA's investigation and specifically named in some of the worst allegations in the NOA.  He just got fired a couple of months ago and the coach he replaced in recruiting was "let-go" as well.:-\

Ahh gotcha. Well that kills my previous post. Thanks for that info -- I had no idea.

That's good.  I'd hate it for Fisher to have the advantage of Craig having 100% focus on recruiting, 100% of the time.

Preventing that is likely why such a rule exists.  It allows for the special circumstances like an on-field coach with a special needs child to be substituted for someone else in recruiting, while preventing other schools from being to abuse it by loading up with several dedicated recruiters.
