Baseball v Lipscomp (sun)

Recommended Posts

Just got the game on in time to see Daniels being pulled....already given up 4 runs and 5 hits in less than two innings and Herndon comes in with the bases loaded.

As suspected....don't have a 3rd starter yet....gonna be "johnny wholestaff" today I guess.  Meanwhile, CH needs to get out of this mess.

High bouncer fielded by the pitcher...only choice was go to first and runner scored run #5.  Next batter hits the ball hard but it's flagged down by the AU centerfielder.

AU has dug itself into a big hole ....again....but has lots of time to get back into the game.  Down 5-0 in bottom of the 2nd.

AU gets three hits in the bottom half.....scored only one run however and the inning ended with a DP that took AU out of a promising inning.

Top of 3rd and Herndon back on the mound....trailing 5-1

Quick two outs.....nice play by Jarvis to cut off a possible hit.

Herndon gets out #3 on a swinging strike out....

AU starts with two and none out....ground out to third, force out and runners still on first and second for Rojas

Rojas takes ball 4 and bases are loaded with one out.....Todd at bat and Lipscomb goes to the bull pen...

Sac fly scores run #2.....runner advances from 2nd to 3rd but two outs now....but AU is a run closer to Lipscomb....with runners at first and 3rd.

Really need a hit....

Daniel Robert comes through with a double to left...brings in 2 more runs....score now 5-4.....LF saved a run by cutting the ball off before it got to wall...and that is it for the Lipscomb pitcher.

Lipscomb doing what he can to save the game now...not wanting AU to score any more this inning.    AU has 2 runners on base and Ingram at bat with chance to put AU in the lead.

And Ingram gets a 3 run dinger to left and AU takes the lead....7-5...

Well had to leave for a while...came back to find the game tied at 7 and see Daniel Robert on the mound working out of a problem...walks and give up the tying  run but that was it....stranded a couple runners and AU comes to bat in bottom of the ninth. Been a typically ugly Sunday afternoon game...lots of pitchers and missed opportunities...

.AU with 11 runners stranded.  JMO but CBT has to a better job of getting runners around the bases......this looks like last year when the team could not move runners along in the clutch.

AU was up and down in order in the bottom of the ninth so some free baseball for those at the park today.

Game has been a bit like watching paint dry and my congrats to those faithful fans who have stayed with the game this long.

Gabe Klobisitz comes in for the tenth to hopefully keep the game in check until AU can figure out how to score another run.  Meanwhile, Daniel Robert returns to his usual position at first base.

Klobo throws two pitches....and time is called as CBT and the trainer head to the mound to talk with him....

And WOW.....Gabe's day is done.......two pitches and he's out and Daniel Sprinkle comes in to take over the mound with a two ball count on the batter.  He has as much time as needed to warm up so the game is in a bit of a delay.

Need a good outing from DS....has hard a hard season thus far.

And immediately Sprinkle is in trouble.....walked  a couple batters and has had trouble finding the strike zone....gets a couple outs and then walks the next batter on 4 pitches to load the bases with two outs....

All of a sudden DS is just throwing balls and BT goes out to talk with him.....guess this is what you would call a teaching moment but BT has left him in control of his fate...so while he gets a couple strikes he eventually walks in the leading run.....and CBT goes to the bull pen again.

AU now trails 8-7 and Lipscomb still has the bases loaded for the new pitcher...

very frustrating to watch Sprinkle struggle so bad this year. He was pretty decent last year, we're gonna need him down the stretch

Seems he's always had control problems....thought after a year with BT he would have gotten that issue under control.....but it's a huge risk to bring him into a ball game in a tight situation.....gotta keep him on a short leash under any conditions.

Yep. This falls on Davis Daniel. He's only a freshman so I dont want to beat him up, and its really not his fault, but since he couldn't go long we had to go to the bullpen early and it seems like we're just out of arms.

Nice play in LF. Kudoes to CBT for leaving Sprinkle out there. He's been so bad he needed something good to happen and getting out of the jam might have done wonders for his confidence. Leaving him in to give up a run couldn't make him any worse than he's been.

Great catch in left by Shaffer to save 3 runs.....so AU only down by one which under the circumstances is amazing.....  But considering we've left 11 runners on base thus far this game should probably have already been a W for Auburn.

Bottom of tenth...starting with the top of the order so at least we have our best batters coming up.

That was Malchevksi (SP) on the mound...he had pulled Sprinkle after his 4th walk.

Man that sucks. Just not enough offense after the fourth inning and our pitching let us down. Hopefully we rebound like we have so far this year.

Auburn goes down meekly in the bottom of the 10......and Lipscomb takes the win 8-7.   Lots of things for CBT to work on this week....

Yeah, I knew he pulled Spronkle, but conventianal wisdom says he should have been pulled with the bases loaded before giving up a run.

Yeah...it was pretty obvious from the beginning that he could not find the plate....the called K looked like a gift from the ump.....not sure what is going on with him....big guy with a 90+ fastball and you would think by now he could throw a strike at least half the time.

Gonna be a lot of pressure on the starters (and the coaches) 'cause no matter what's going on with one of the top starters there does not look like a reliable reliever is available.   Just can't afford to give up so many walks.

Two mid week games coming up...gotta wonder who will be starting those games....and finishing them.
