Fallout continued Wednesday after two pages from Donald Trump’s 2005 tax returns were leaked to MSNBC and revealed last night. The release, showing that Trump paid a roughly 25% tax rate for the year and revealed no new revelations of unethical behavior, raised immediate questions about their origin.

Those questions were front and center on New Day this morning. During an interview with co-hosts Chris Cuomo and Poppy Harlow,journalist David Cay Johnston, who was mailed Trump’s tax information, suggested that it was a “possibility” that the Trump administration had leaked the info to him intentionally.

“Donald has a long history of leaking things,” said Johnston. “So it’s a possibility.”

“For a leak this seems to be pretty good for the president,” Cuomo agreed. “It was the best number to show how much money he makes, it doesn’t show anything nefarious and he winds up coming out looking like ‘see what’s the big deal?'”

Johnston, however, then walked back his suggestion slightly, saying that the angry White House reaction suggested that they had been caught off-guard.

Liberals and Conservatives, including Trump’s own son, Donald Trump Jr, immediately pounced on Maddow after the release, suggesting it was an all hype-low pay-off reveal.

‘Clearly He Didn’t Leak’: Reporter Who Received Trump’s Tax Return on Whether Trump Sent It

 

David Cay Johnston, the reporter who received two pages of President Donald Trump’s 2005 tax return in the mail and subsequently released them, appeared on MSNBC’s Hardball this evening to discuss Trump’s recent comments on the leak.

Speaking to host Chris Matthews, Johnston first gave a recounting of how and when he received the tax return. He also noted that it was postmarked from Westchester.

Asked if it was his call to reveal the document on Rachel Maddow’sprogram, Johnston explained it was before commenting on his thoughts on who may have leaked it to him.

“I first thought maybe Donald had leaked it,” Johnston noted. “But his reaction in turning what could have been for him a terrific story about himself — he’s managed to squander by his reaction to this. So clearly he didn’t leak.”

He then went on to talk about how Trump hasn’t complained about other leaks to the press that he suspect came from the president.

Earlier in the day, an excerpt from an interview with Tucker Carlsonwas released that showed Trump complaining about the leak, even though he acknowledged it wasn’t embarrassing.

This is just exactly what you would expect Trump to say if he had leaked the return isn't it?  The man is an evil genius....
