I have no idea how having it next week would interfere with evaluation days at high schools.

It would clearly interfere. Now, what's more important, having A-day when some kids can't come or missing days of coach's visits? Clearly, the staff thinks the visits are more important. If they didn't, A-day would be a week later.

This is sad mikey. Thought we were going to turn over a new leaf and agree more starting today. On to the next one tho!! Don't worry fam we will find some common ground somewhere! WOOOO!!! It is going to be a BEAUUUUTIFUL ONE! Kershaw is on the bump and our Auburn Tigers are playing! Does not get much better.

Not this year it doesn't. Until the recruiting calendar is amended Spring evaluation days have and do start on Tax Day, April 15th & end on May 31st. This is the only year where we could have held A Day on the 3rd Saturday In April & not potentially lose eval days. Any other year and we could potentially lose 1-5 days depending how coaches scheduled Spring practice & what not. I'm not being a Sheldon. Just stating facts my friend as they are now. The calendar may be changed after December signings for non EE high schoolers go into effect.

@ellitor, DUDE! YOU posted this, above: "Gus wanted to move up A Day so coaches don't miss out on any Spring evaluation recruiting days"......

So which one of your above statements is incorrect? Obviously, moving A-day next Saturday, April 15, would interfere. So.....?

OK OK!!! you have twisted my arm I will answer you this. I wish our A Day was just next weekend. It is simple. Still not on the same date as West Vance and allows us to have 2 of our biggest targets to come to the game in Armour Davis and Jibunor. I am of the mindset and belief and a reminder it is just my opinion but if they would of made A Day it would of all but locked them up. Jibunor is always on commitment watch when he is on campus now imo. It is one of the biggest off season visit days for the kids outside of big cat weekend. The excitement for A Day is more than the usual amount because of the buzz surrounding Stidham. The End. Lets go evaluate some Linebackers now and call it a day! haha.

It is frustrating to have those two miss A Day for sure. I've become leary of kids on perpetual commit watch, though. Auburn seems to have a lot of these nowadays.

I read on 247, free info, that coaches put more emphasis on Big Cat than A-Day so it is not as big a deal as we think.  If it was the same day as Bama and they decided to go to their game it would be a big deal.

I just went back and relooked the visitor list posted by Ellitor to start this thread.  There is some serious firepower on there. Cant wait to wrap up and injury free A Day and have our coaches dive into getting some commitments from that list. WDE

I think I prefer the video to the Fabulous ThunderBirds  " wrap it up" than this one.

Auburn recruiting observations, analysis from A-Day

Drew Champlin | dchamplin@al.com

The Auburn A-Day game got off to a good start recruiting-wise when Brooks offensive lineman Kameron Stutts gave his pledge to the Tigers.

Many other recruits were spotted in attendance, including the state's top prospect Justyn Ross, a receiver from Central-Phenix City and quarterback commit Joey Gatewood from Bartram Trail High School in Jacksonville, Fla.

Some observations from today. This post will be updated.

** Head coach Gus Malzahn made a beeline over to 2019 OL Clay Webb and Pierce Quick, top in-state guys, before the game to say hello. They were already with offensive line coach Herb Hand.

** Seemed like Gatewood made it a point to hang around Ross, one of the top WR to come out of the state in a while. Looks like an Auburn-Alabama battle with Ross.

** Memphis OL Jerome Carvin made his first trip. Seemed like he had fun. Visiting Alabama soon. Not terribly close to narrowing things down. Auburn likes him as a guard.

Here is (not a complete) list of some other recruits who were spotted:

Kelvin Stokes, DE, Stanhope Elmore

Ja'Len Sims, 4-star LB, Fultondale (2019)

Justyn Ross, 5-star WR, Central-Phenix City

Joey Gatewood, 4-star QB, Jacksonville, Fla. (Auburn commit)

Coynis Miller Jr., 4-star DE, Birmingham (Jackson-Olin)

Myles Mason, 4-star DB, Pleasant Grove

Tony Amerson, RB, Montgomery-St. James (2019)

Asa Martin, 4-star RB, Decatur (Austin)

Pierce Quick, 4-star OL, Hewitt-Trussville (2019)

Clay Webb, 4-star OL, Oxford (2019)

Harold Joiner, 4-star RB, Mountain Brook

King Mwukuta, 4-star LB, LaGrange, Ga. (2019)

Anthony Schwarz, 3-star WR, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

Jerome Carvin, 3-star OL, Memphis

Caleb Nix, QB, Pinson Valley (2022)

Some 2017 signees were spotted

Calvin Ashley, OL

Tyrone Truesdell, DL

Jordyn Peters, DB

Anders Carlson, K

Traivon Leonard, DB

Austin Troxell, OL

Casey Dunn, OL (Jacksonville State grad transfer)

Social media reaction from the day.

Perhaps, but you didn't answer the question. Would you move A-day back to where it was and miss the recruiting road visits by our coaches or leave A-day where Gus put it and have some guys not visit because of ACT conflicts? Which would you choose, and why do you think Gus made the wrong choice?

Its easy.  You have A-Day last weekend.  Its not rocket science to start spring ball so that you have A-Day before the ACT and the spring coaches visits for recruiting.  You people act like this stuff is difficult and can't be done.  I hope you are not like this in your professional lives.

This year it doesn't. Every other year it does...I see what you are getting at. They miss half a day if A Day is on the 15th. Big Flipping Whoop!

If it's not a big whoop, then why did you say that's why Gus moved A-day?

Nuggets from SECCountry

Quote

3-star athlete Kolbi Fuqua decided to commit to Auburn right before he left campus Saturday. He’s liked Auburn for a while, but two key things stood out: Chip Lindsey’s offense and Jarrett Stidham’s arm. Fuqua has been recruited by schools as a safety and as a wide receiver, but the Tigers want him at receiver.

3-star offensive lineman Kameron Stutts committed to Auburn just prior to kickoff. Stutts is a 6-foot-5, 320-pound offensive lineman from Brooks School (Ala.). He said he decided on the way to A-Day that he was probably going to commit. Once he got on campus, he said he “knew the time was right.” Stutts likely will play guard at the next level.

Auburn quarterback commit Joey Gatewood spent much of the day recruiting wide receiver target Justyn Ross and running back target Asa Martin. He said he feels confident with both players. Gatewood also reassured that he has no doubts about his commitment. In fact, he said he “never really had any doubts.” Gatewood will stay overnight.

5-star wide receiver Justyn Ross got a big smile on his face when asked about Auburn’s willingness to throw the ball on Saturday. He also mentioned the importance of getting to spend time with a quarterback commit at a school he’s considering. His relationship with Gatewood will play a factor.

4-star RB Harold Joiner, who picked up an Alabama offer this week, said his top 2 remains the same — LSU and Auburn. Ole Miss is probably next in line there. The Crimson Tide haven’t made it clear what position they want him at. LSU has made early playing time and the running back position more clear than other programs.

4-star safety Myles Mason returned to Auburn and got another opportunity to sit down with secondary coach Greg Brown. They went over some film together. Mason has Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Florida and Clemson are his unofficial top 5. He hopes to decide by the summer. Mason wants to visit Georgia soon, too.

4-star Coynis Miller was back on Saturday after being on the Plains for three days last week. He released a top list of schools this time around: Auburn, Alabama, LSU, Georgia and Ole Miss. He hopes to Florida soon, as well.

3-star defensive lineman Caleb Tannor is one of Auburn’s favorite Buck defensive end targets. His recruitment has picked up a lot recently. He said a top 10 is “coming soon,” but Auburn, Alabama and Georgia have been standing out to him. Auburn is in good shape here.

3-star safety Jamien Sherwood from Jensen Beach (Fla.) spent a lot of time with Greg Brown and Kevin Steele on his visit. He said Auburn is “beyond high” on a list that also includes in-state schools Florida, Florida State and Miami. He plans to release a more extensive top list in the near future.

3-star CB Jaycee Horn visited for the first time as a recruit. He said he was surprised by how nice it was. Horn’s father, NFL great Joe Horn, played for the New Orleans Saints when Greg Brown was on the Saints’ staff. Horn will release a top list of schools soon and knows Alabama and Tennessee will make the list. Auburn is in pretty good shape so far, too.

2019 Buck defensive end/linebacker King Mwikuta, who will end up being one of the most coveted players in the nation, said Auburn jumped Florida State for the No. 3 slot, but the Tigers have closed the gap on Alabama and Georgia who are at the top of his list. He also said he plans to get to every single Auburn home game this fall. He’s close friends with Auburn signee JaTarvious Whitlow.

2019 offensive linemen Pierce Quick and Clay Webb are both likely to land in-state. Quick and Webb said on Saturday that they can envision themselves playing with each other in college. They said they’ve had the conversation with Auburn legacy Bo Nix also.

Auburn WR signee Noah Igbinoghene said he’s doing his best to recruit his Hewitt-Trussville (Ala.) teammate Quick to the Tigers. Those two are close.

Auburn OL signee Austin Troxell has been cleared by doctors to do everything after recovering from an ACL tear for the second straight season. Like most signees who didn’t enroll early, he’ll arrive for college on May 28.

2020 athlete Quitman Kincaid received an Auburn offer following the spring game. Kincaid plays wide receiver and defensive back at his high school, but he most likely projects as a wide receiver in college.

Gus Malzahn took some personal time to talk to a few Auburn targets during pregame. He had some 1-on-1 time with Joiner. Malzahn also took a brief minute to chat with Quick and Webb, along with Herb Hand. There were likely more, but those are the encounters SEC Country witnessed first-hand.
