Softball vs. South Carolina - game 1

Recommended Posts

Wallace swings at an awful pitch and strikes out, ball gets away from the catcher, so she throws to 1st to complete the out, Cooper moves to 3rd.  2 outs for Rivera.

Hard to take that with 2 strikes but sure didn't look like a strike from my desk....

Carlson sets them down in order again.  After 3.  Auburn leads 2-0.   Greenwood, Shea and Jordan coming up.

Greenwood attempts to steal 2nd and she was easily out.  That was not a good idea in that situation, IMO.   We had a chance to get the first two on.  Not a good idea IMO.   Shea walks and we should have 2 runners on, but only have a runner on 1st.  1 out.  Whitney Jordan up.

Lead feels shaky.  Can Draper get a 3d hit?

shaky?  how so?  Carlson has been very much on her game.  I think South carolina has had 1 runner as far as 2nd.

Cooper ground ball to the left side, Short stop backhands it going away from 2nd base and throw not even close and it bounces several times on the way to 1st.   Runner on 1st for Carlee Wallace.   Wallace sharp grounder to 3rd, off her glove to short, shortstop fires to 1st, not in time.  Runners on 1st and 2nd with 1 out for Rivera.

Rivera high chopper to the left side, shortstop charges throw to 1st not in time.  Auburn has the bases loaded with 1 out for Kendall Veach.

Veach grounds one right on the bag at 3rd, 3rd baseman steps on the base and throws to 1st for the double play and that ends the top 5th.  Auburn leads 2-0

south carolina gets a double to start the bottom 5th.  Chopper to 1st and Veach doesn't hesitate at all and throws to Cooper at 3rd and they easily get the lead runner.  1 out runner at 1st.  Fantastic play all around there by the Auburn defense.

Lined back to short, caught by Jordan, throw to 1st in time to double up the runner and Auburn gets out of the 5th and adds to its NCAA leading double play total.   2-0 Auburn.

Greenwood, Shea and Jordan coming up.
