Quote

FBI Director James B. Comey has been dismissed by the president, according to White House spokesman Sean Spicer - a startling move that officials said stemmed from a conclusion by Justice Department officials that he had mishandled the probe of Hillary Clinton’s emails.

Comey was fired as he is leading a counterintelligence investigation to determine whether associates of President Trump may have coordinated with Russia to meddle with the presidential election last year. That probe began quietly last July but has now become the subject of intense debate in Washington. It is unclear how Comey’s dismissal will affect that investigation.

“The president has accepted the recommendation of the Attorney General and the deputy Attorney General regarding the dismissal of the director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation,” Spicer told reporters in the briefing room.

Pres. Trump reportedly has fired FBI Director Comey. I guess people on both sides of the aisle will be glad to see this but the reactions will be interesting.

About time...and interesting that the same Dems who blame Comey for Trump's win in Nov are now mad that he has been fired.....that sure makes no sense....they ought to be happy to see him gone if they really believe that he affected the out come of the election.

It makes perfect sense. It's not about vengeance and payback, it's about getting to the truth.

OK...the entire FBI was not fired....thousands of people still available to do the investigation and it was pretty well established that a sizeable part of the FBI had lost confidence in Comey..http://truthfeed.com/james-comey-has-disgraced-the-fbi-and-agents-are-ready-to-revolt/29010/

There are about 2 dozen pieces on the basic subject that he should  have been gone long time ago.

And yet he's gone today. As the investigation into the administration is picking up steam. This is bad. Real bad. It's time for folks to step back from partisan defenses and truly assess what is happening.

It's being reported that Comey was in LA addressing FBI employees when the letter was delivered to FBI HQ. TV screens behind Comey started flashing the news.

No phone call, just a letter.

Coward bosses fire people that way.

Just don't see that happening. Watching the Yates hearing yesterday just further cemented that in my mind.

There is never a good day to fires someone like him...and nothing is picking up steam...that hearing the other day was nothing...just a rehash of stuff that everyone already knew...and he had mislead people too many times, had not provided information requested by the committees.  Nobody inside or outside of the FBI had confidence in what the guy was doing or saying.

Meanwhile ...today was because the new Deputy AG was finally accepted...and immediately recommended  the action.

Trump's tweets during the hearing suggest otherwise.

So...about anyone close to the FBI knew the agency was in turmoil and the "investigation": had been going on for more than a year ....so how long do you wait...a day, a week, a year?   Many top Dems have been howling for him to go .... and now they love him....lol.

There is no indication how long the Dems will keep the investigation active and in the meantime the FBI is going to H in a hand basket under him.  Like firing Les after the AU game...they knew they were going to do it..so why wait til the end of the year or whenever?   In my view at least...once his new boss was on the job..he was good as gone.....no point in having him around indefinitely and he was not doing the actual work anyway.  His new boss is just on the job now....the Deputy AG....and he decided it was time for JC to go....The AG guy is a career DOJ employee and apparently above reproach.

The reasons given defy all logic and reason.

agree...the firing was bad...but unfortunately corporations do it that way all the time but it was crappy....no doubt.

And as for CK....I heard his comments tonight and don't agree at all with him other than the method...and for every CK there are many more respectable people saying...."at last"...what took so long.  He's a big anti-trump so I'm used to him being critical whenever he can be....the "fair and balanced" part of fox I guess.:)

Comey  was out of control...making decisions on things that as FBI, he had no right to do....deciding who to prosecute for example with Hillary.....or that there was no "intent" so there should be no prosecution which was not his decision to make.  Made a big misstatement about how many HC e-mails had been sent to Houma's husband which was sloppy and pointless....big ego...loved being the "show" was how i saw him anyway

Otherwise...time will tell about the investigation which seems to change directions whenever the first premise does not pan out....so they go look for something else.

This isn't the smack talk forum.

Now answer truthfully. If Obama fired Comey during the Clinton email investigation, what would your reaction be?

CK gave reasons for his position that make perfect sense. You ignore those.

IMO that is different. Nothing to the ongoing Russian/Trump Admin collusion or whatever it is called now. Hillary and dems where exposed regardless of the info source. And yes, he should have have been fired by Obama after his input.

Just disagree with him and his explanations....no problem with that is there?

Here is another view...

Lots of opinions on the matter and to some extent this week is  about the first time they could actually fire him considering the problems getting people confirmed by the Senate to the Justice Department leadership.

Considering also what I've heard, the FBI office got the letter earlier in the day and apparently did not get in touch with Comey right away....wonder if that was deliberate?  In DC, it's not beyond believing that someone deliberately hung him out to dry.

You serious Clark?

What prevented the President from calling Comey?

So you believe the reason for the firing is what?
