Baseball vs Ole Miss Game 3

Recommended Posts

Once we get past the first 3 or 4 pitchers it's problematic.....and the way it's going today, rain is our best hope for this game...

Walking leadoff batters....almost always costs you..not a well played inning.

Ball game. Ole Miss wins 8-4. Rebels played like a team that was in a must win situation- they wanted that one more than we did. On to hoover! Depending on the result of the Vandy-Bama game, we will either be the 7 or 8 seed playing Mizzouri or Ole Miss, respectively.

I don't think Ole Miss wanted it more. We just had no one to take the place of Casey Mize.

Virtually the entire season, we have had only two pitchers who could go the distance .

The "Sunday games" were always a mystery .  Several starters were good for two or three  solid innings to start a game and then the wheels seem to come off . Today was another one of those days .

It's like that in 90% of college baseball; we just don't see it a bunch because the SEC is so deep.  It's not called "Sunday Run Day" for nothing.  Not a lot of teams are three deep.  Hope next year Davis can step into the solid 2-role to replace Keegan.

Also, referencing a post from earlier, AU is the 8th seed and get a rematch with Ole Miss on Tuesday at 4:30 in Birmingham.  So maybe better to lose this one; probably hard to beat the same team 4 times in 7 days if the law of averages holds.

I'm thinking many teams have more quality depth below their top 2...AU is now 11th in the SEC in ERA despite two guys who have just lit up the league....and are in the top 5 of the league...but one you get past them it's pretty rough....most of them ranging from 4.5 to 6.0.

Means we have to win the first game of every tournament opportunity and try to stay in the winner's bracket to take the shortest way to the finals.

Davis Daniels is a much better, more experienced pitcher than he was at the start of the season. He has really developed well and quite literally grew up in front of us. If Casey is able to go and Keegan can stay healthy AU might do some winning.  The bullpen is not lights out but we do have a couple of kids who have done better lately so maybe....

I noticed that Coker still has his long hair. Take that boy to a barber.

The bullpen is just so inconsistent. We do have 3 solid starters (when they are at 100%), but once they have to come out, it is a guess if we can hold a lead or not.

Our relievers seem to help one inning then can't get anyone out if they have to go 2 innings. Or they get the first batter, then ofc walk the next, give up some hits, and before we know it, have to bring in another reliever.

Klobosits, Coker, Mitchell, Watson, etc all have well over 4 eras. Lipscomb is the only one I truly trust to shut a team down but he can't do it all...

OK...things are set up as like.....and 2 out of 3 is probably already good enough to assure a regional....

Would be nice for Thompson to shut them down again and just hope he does not need help from the pen to secure a win.

I just hope their recent experience with KT doesn't make it easier to hit off of him.

think I saw elsewhere that Mize might be the starter....hope he is on a short leash with all the "issues" ...whatever they are, that have affected his ability to go very deep into a game.
